- Narrowboat living, continuous cruising or staying in a Marina is something we talk about every year and this year we couldn’t get our Narrowboat home. Where did we live on a Narrowboat this winter? We escape overseas for the first time in two years. Plenty of drama as one of us has to visit the hospital. We also bump into a couple of Narrowboat Vloggers. A winter storm hits us hard as we try out this new Marina.
If you're new to the channel, we are Paul & Anthony and together with our dog Dexter we live full time on a Narrowboat, cruising the UK Canals and finding out what its really like to be Living on a Narrowboat exploring the Nature and scenery on some of the best canals in the UK

So glad you were able to get away on holiday - it looked AMAZING! So sorry Anthony had to deal with a retinal detachment, and then Paul with covid... hope you are now both fully recovered. Hey Kathy. We had an amazing holiday. Eye was lasered on Thursday and seems to have done the trick and Paul is fully recovered now too.

Oh boy - what a great video! You two are a terrific double act and so funny 😂. Glad you’ve survived The Plague, Paul and glad that Anthony survived the assault of the eye ball. Dexter looked truly embarrassed when you told him he smelt nice - bet he wished he had a nice pile of smelly dead things to roll in to counter being so perfumed. Enjoy your marina break 🤩

Caroline, he always looks so much younger after his visit to the groomers. I had laser surgery on my eye last Thursday but fingers crossed seems to be good.
The holiday was exactly what the doctor ordered.

I love the ice cracking under foot when you walk across the grass. I’m impressed with the fire cleaner. Dex you really are a poser baby boy, that was so funny the way you looked at the camera after your beautiful clip then again at the end of the vlog, love ya to bits Dex. Anthony come and cook for us, I love potato and leak soup but I haven’t cooked it in ages. Glad you got your holiday but not glad you have a crook eye Anthony or that you have Covid Paul. My daughter has that cough and it’s about five weeks after being positive. Look forward to next week to see how you both are until then take care. 💕

Best way I clean my stove glass is a painters glass scraper, just spray glass with water or house glass cleaner then wait a few seconds and scrap away then wipe dry with paper towel

We’ve found the best thing to clean the stove glass is a dab of ash on a damp cloth/ kitchen roll. I might get the Polish though!

That was another superb video. It had everything! Definatley "a Dexter film" this week. He stole the show for me. Having his hair cut, sulking in the back of the car and holding up his paw for a treat - fabulous!

Here in Poland, nobody buys soup. It's always home made. If you fancy something different, let me know and I'll send you over some recipes for you to try out.

To start with, try ROSOl soup.(pronounced Rossoo)
In a big pot, boil a small whole chicken, with a whole carrot, onion, stick of celery, a leek, four or five peper corns, salt, 2 bay leaves and a vegetable stock cube. Boil slowly for 2 hours. Meanwhile cook four handfuls of pasta of your choice
Discard the vegetables and bay leaves. Shred some of the chicken meat and add to the soup.
We eat the soup with the pasta which has been been pre-cooked
I personally like a splash or two of Worcester Sauce in mine.

Hi Paul/Anthony: An oiled filled electric heater is fantastic. I've had mine for years as a "spare heat" during the winter in my 100 year old home and I love it. It is a steady heat, no blower to it, is very safe, with no fumes/flames, etc. You'll love it. Take care out there guys . Travel safe and watch that cough.

Somehow managed to miss the part about Anthony’s eye problems. I’ve had three detached retinas ( two in one eye 🤪) so I feel your pain. My eyesight has never been better tho after a Len’s replacement in one eye. I’m sure it will all be good. Dexter really did look like he had the hump after you left him for all that time 😱😱😱😱😂😂anyway. Great vlog , great soup recipe Anthony, good luck with the weight loss. ☮️

I've used oil-filled heaters for years and they are totally safe if you keep them a little distance from any objects that might heat up too much. They are very sturdy and won't tip over. Of course, my home isn't moving so there's that. 😊 I like how they put out a steady, gentle heat. It would be great if you left the boat for a while. I wouldn't like to come home to a frigid boat!

Ah, eye problems... ☹ I always say the only problem I don't have with my eyes is macular degeneration. I need a second corneal transplant, have had cataract surgery, have retinal flashes, astigmatism, and glaucoma. I really didn't win the vision lottery. 👀 Anthony, glad your problem didn't mess up that much-needed holiday. ❤ It looks like a lovely place to go.

@@anthonysmith-storey9247 My house cools down too much between the runnings of the furnace. The heater works to keep the chill at bay and I have one cat that loves to sleep by it. Even better than that I love warm weather with no heat needed and that will come before long. Then soon after we can complain about the heat. ☺ Glad to hear that it wasn't a detached retina and that the correction was a success. Most of my problems are corrected or under control but I do need that second surgery. I've put it off for about as long as I can.

Morning all. I use Hive for the control of my oil fired Central Heating, lights and Security and I love it. Dead simple to install
Hey, we used to have Hive when we lived in the house. Was brilliant. I do think you can get a system for the boat that controls the heating but may require a different controller. Have a great weekend. ❤️
Hey Guys...hope you're well. Loved the video. Too bad you caught Covid Paul. At least you didn't get it during your holiday. The resort looked nice, I've never been to Gran Canaria. Anthony I'm making that soup tomorrow, I'm sure you can have Leak and Potato chilled in Summer too. It sounded delicious. I keep my stove glass clean by dipping wet kitchen towel in the wood ash then rubbing it into the glass then clean off with another piece of kitchen towel. I find it always does a great job. Dexter looked very smart after his pamper. Bless him at the end with his paw. take care Guys .....
Hi James we used to visit Gran Canaria every January for some winter sun. We really missed it the past two years. I’m convinced I got Covid from the gym while on holiday. We used to clean with the kitchen towels and ash but found it scratched the glass. The soup Anthony made was delicious. Dexter is such a character 💕

Dexter looking very nice after his grooming. He looked as if he was sulking a little after you picked him up after your break. Glad you had a good holiday. Although not so good on your return. Moving position in the marina certainly gave you a nicer view.

Thank you for sharing your lovely holiday it was nice of you because I would have taken a break from filming. I know it's been some weeks since you've been back but I know you would love to be back there. I had my new Mobility scooter delivered but it was just awful and rickety so I've asked them to take it back and chosen a slightly bigger one much sturdier but I have to take the size into account because it has to fit into the lift. Try using a dab of ash on a damp sheet of kitchen roll to clean the glass. The polish looks good!

Hey Leo. We had a great holiday thanks. I had to have laser surgery on my eye this Thursday but hopefully that has sorted the issue out. We couldn’t isolate from each other. I just had to keep testing every day.
Dexter is so sweet bless him and he definitely talks with his eyes.

I really don't understand how Paul creates such immersive 'video experiences'. However, detaching Anthony's retina for a minor sub plot seemed a touch excessive.

Cleaning the stove glass: All you have to do is take 2wet paper towels dab it in the last ash of your last fire and use that on the glass works immediately and it only costs 2 paper towels.
We have done this and it scratches the glass. 👍👍

If I come across a 12x70 Dutch Barge Hull I’ll surly step off land for good. Barge Hulls everywhere but commercial size, don’t think that would ever happen. Love your canal systems. Watched many of the Longboat VLoggers videos and there are some Grand Historical sites along all the canals. I think that is so cool. And like the Mississippi all the villages, towns, cities and all the pubs and eateries. Absolutely a Grand Time with mostly Grand People. Welp keep it on top not on the bottom you have a Great n Grand Day.

We were moored in that exact spot last week for a couple of nights outside Reedley Marina. We saw your boat moored just the other side of Foulridge tunnel when we left. We stopped at the Anchor for a night.
It was a good spot for us and our friends were moored in front of us too. Are you heading to Chorley?

Ah, the holiday video! Very pretty! A couple of hundred years ago, my mom's people left the Canaries, to float across the Atlantic westwards, so I know I have some distant cousins there. Anthony's cooking looked scrumptious! What a yummy, rich leek & potato soup! Dexter looked so handsome, with his nice grooming! Glad you guys have gotten over the illness - very soon it will be Summer! (Did I use enough exclamation points? ;) )

I’ve seen other CZcamsrs using ash from the ash pan when the fire is cold. On a bit of news paper and scrubbing that on the glass. Try on a small pitch first eh.

In my cabin on the lake I have soot ..omg. daily cleaning. On my boat I use propane. Much cleaner burning. Curious as to why narrow boats don't use.
I have noticed sailboats definitely use propane.

Aw no, sorry you tested positive Paul. Hope Anthony swerved it. For some reason the 3 of us here have swerved it so far. No idea why. Starting to wonder if it's not us avoiding Covid but Covid avoiding us lol we're triple jabbed but I don't think that makes much difference x
Hey Cazzy. I did test positive but only once so Paul thinks it may have been a false positive. Keep swerving if you can. Maybe you just have a natural immunity. What ever it is glad you have a avoided. Take care ❤️
@@anthonysmith-storey9247 That's weird isn't it, could have been a false positive. Sons girlfriend works at a home for adults with Down syndrome & they had a PCR done weekly & lat flows. She sent the PCR off on the thursday, came to ours on the friday & stayed until the saturday, then on the sunday the PCR result came back positive. No symptoms. A lat flow was then faint line. But after that negative ones. None of us caught it off her even though we all shared the house/bathroom. So I do wonder if false positives are more common than they think. Unless we just don't catch it, we don't catch Flu either, maybe there's something in that x
