Yep - I took your course and recommend it highly. I still don't like Rekordbox - but I am happy to use it proficiently now after migrating from vinyl to USB DJing via your course.

If AI can get you 80% of the way there and you add the human 20% on top, I do not see a problem.
Id like a cleanup option to delete any tracks not inside a playlist or the like, or an option to delete the disk file from Rekordbox
They completely hope for that Serato deal to go through and get those stems instead of making their own. The NZ trial for the acquisition has been postponed three times already, next date is June 27th. I have no idea if that is the end date or how often it can/will get postponed after that, but I am fairly certain that RB is not even having anyone work on stems anymore, fully hoping for that merger to go through.
If NZ law stands against the serato acquisition, we might not see better RB stems ever
Everyone else has managed it ok, it's more about getting the performance/audio balance right.
LOL . . .was waiting throughout this whole video for you to get to the "STEMS ISSUE" LOL . . .and then it was bad news as well, lol . . . If they didn't improve STEMS, they don't deserve to call it an upgrade...LOL... I know I wont be the only one that feels like this. It actually doesn't really make sense for RecordBox to be trailing so far behind the competition on a category that , I'm sure they must be aware of, is receiving continuous attention from the aggressively creative DJ's out there, like the one's with "James - Hype - Syndrome" 😂
You're right, most pro DJs will prepare stems ahead of time.
Djay pro certainly has stems nailed (although it, too, is a subscription of course).
@@djstuc must be they are under utilizing the benefits of it. . . . or they are simply not creative enough to make it work for them. Stems have opened up a new realm of unlimited possibilities...
@@djstuc you can use it, it just doesnt replace eq'ing, i personally see it similair to using FX, depending on the genre you are mixing it can be handy (for hip hop for an instance, its easy to create an acapella on the fly) but lets say mixing drum n bass with stems doesnt sound really good, so it is definitely overmarketed in some places, but so is the whole pioneer hardware.

Does Track Separation still work with the Free subscription?
Idk if this is something other's want but I want that. In performance mode, why can't we zoom waveform all the way out (just like it can be done in Virtual DJ)? I would love to have that ability to see my track all the way out and know when to cue the track.
I love the device authentication now to unlock RB 7. I used to keep RB 5 around for when I wanted to use my Xone K2 without any Pioneer hardware attached.
Lack of stem engine update is disappointing, so looking forward for a 7.1 release with stem update.
Tip: With RB7, DDJ users should get more comfortable using Shift + Encoder-click. That is default button mapping to jump to "Media Browser view" (or to be more precisely: move the active view to the left, hence "BACK" on the controller) and use your encoder wheel select the category to view. In RB6 you generally didn't needed to use this function specifically unless you wants to close like an open category or folder in the treeview (which is it's alternate function).

I do also think that this update is significant, and definitely worthy of a 6 to 7 leap. If you dig under the hood, they've improved efficiency in many areas like screen and waveform rendering, database management, startup processes, updated Juce foundation from v3 to v7, and so on. It all feels to me like laying the groundwork and foundations for being able to finally improve their stems using these refreshed technologies and efficiencies. I wouldn't be surprised if they already had better stem tech in-house by their devs, just Rekordbox was nowhere near modern or efficient enough to process them in anything near real-time.

Hey Phil, thanks for the great videos, is there any way to add a song that is currently playing on one of the decks in export mode to a playlist? It's just that when you are using the radar feature, and you have your playlist open the track that is currently playing disappears and you have to go back to your collection to find it, would've been easier if you could just add it from the player? Is this possible?

Any changes in the key detection algorithm? With the new cue function, it could potential render Mixed In Key surplus to requirements and I can finally stop using MIK 10 as part of my workflow.

@@digitaldjtips Maybe time again for a little experiment with a selection of variety of songs, analyzed through both MiK10 and RB7? No one has done a video on how good the RB7 auto cue is yet.
I have the FLX10. Mix point link and stems were unusable on rekordbox 6. I hope they fixed it, but let's see 🌈

Could you maybe make a video about the new auto cue feature and specifically the"AI" functionality behind it, that apparently learns from user-chosen tracks with cues already applied? I have a very specific way of placing my hot cues, coloring them and adding vocal loops to hot cue position 7&8. If that feature could help me automating that, it would be absolutely huge for me. I might be expecting too much though. Right now i can't even download the new version, as their site has been down for hours 🤦
It won't do that for you, and to be honest we're not fans of auto cue for most people - it's something specific to you.
@@digitaldjtips Thanks for the answer! I do wonder what the algorithm learns from the "CUE Analysis playlist" shown in Crossfader's video about RB7 then though. Even if it is not that advanced, it has to do something. With Stems, Phrase and the waveform itself analyzed, RB at the very core has all the info it needs to intelligently automate hot cues, because it knows where vocals are in the track and it knows where breaks, buildups and main parts of a track are. My ultimate hope was that all of that info, together with user examples regarding coloring and sorting came together in that new feature in some way. Oh well, so much for living in the future ;-)

No
There will be no stems upgrade until the Serato merger closes, and even then it will take time. Either because if it goes through, intergrating Serato stems will take time, or if the merger fails, because training another, better model and make it efficient for performance mode (and failing on weaker computers) will take an even longer time. We may have to wait until 8 for that.
Practical answer, thx. Mergers are tough and often take years for product integration
Of course, they pretty much all plug in the same tech - Spleeter or Demucs. But you're right, the big thing is performance. That will go away as laptops become more powerful, but again as you say, in the short term it presents Rekordbox's developers with an issue.
Time is ticking… even virtual dj has better stems. Customers don’t care about mergers! They care about stems and right now Virtual fj and DJay Pro are winning

Hey Phil, i updated to 7 but for some reason it put me on a trial version, so alot of these things aren't working when i plug my ddj1000 in, for example all the export updates and it won't let me record anything now either. any idea on how to fix this?
A few people have said this, we have not had time to dig in and see what's going on yet
what if i buy a controller 2nd hand and someone has already registered that serial number? the software should be unlockable if a compatible controller is plugged in

hi Phil, im having issues with stream radar. i have beatport streaming service and when i do go into stream radar it only shows 50 tracks with different genre. me being a techno dj i rather just the techno genre instead of mixed genre

hey Phil. i recently purchased the pioneer dj OPUS QUAD but my REKORDBOX is a free mode....i thought this hardware can unlock CORE mode???? how do i register to get hardware unlocking
Not sure how this is implemented in RB7, but as long as all the expected things work, I wouldn't worry about it.
No doubt more ways to nickel and dime you with subscriptions added
I wonder if they're keeping stems poor quality / low cpu so they can integrate them on their new standalone controllers when they are released like a new XZ.

I still don't have the option to update to RB7. I just updated my Mac software to the newest, so that shouldn't be a problem. The update doesn't even pop up in the update manager.

Hi Phil! I have a big problem to unlock the free plan features. I can’t register at Owner / Product Register because is greyed out. When I plug my FLX10, the features are unlock and at the bottom right of the screen shows an upgrade plan window and is annoying. When the FLX10 is unplug the features are lock again and I can’t still make the “owner registration” and the same window shows up. Please help!

Hello Phil, I just installed recordbox 7 and I own an opus quad. I hear you don't have to pay if you own pioneer hardware but is showing me recordbox 7 as a trial. Not sure why I am missing here.

No stem upgrade?? Fail!
I stopped updating at 6.3 anything higher and my laptop just freezes glitches and the stems update caused the laptop to crash.

having huge stuttering during trackload on a 2024 machine with 0 dpc latency now, no audio issues associated with that though, such as clicks or dropouts, but i dont like that the software locks up (1-5s) on song load and analyze now..

I wish they made midi mapping more of a breeze as it is now is just plain annoying lol
serial number recordbox activation, I don't know... it makes reselling hardware very difficult. the pioneer view is clear, everybody has to get a new divice or pay for recordbox, I think it's a d-move
As far as we can tell, plugging in the hardware will always unlock as well.

Nothing is worse than Native Instruments. You have to get permission from them before you sell one of their products. And the best part it, you can't contact them. No phone, fax, email, etc... Nothing. If you can't fix the issue with their automated online help, that's it. I have brand new gear from them that hasn't been used one time because I can't contact them to activate. I even tried leaving comments on their youtube channel videos, just like what were doing here. They delete my posts the second they see them.

@@zaldarion Its incredible. I bought a brand new Maschine 3 from Guitar Center. I was the first person to open the box. Its not a demo or return. During the activation process something comes up where they need to do a manual override. I think I had a demo version of Traktor or another piece of NI software already on my computer, and for whatever the reason, I get a message to complete the registration by contacting NI. Your only option is the online help, and if that doesn't work, you're finished. They don't even list an email address.
Here's the best part. When I go to NI's youtube channel and post a comment like this, they immediately delete the post. I always put the serial number in the post so they know its not someone just making up a story, and instead of helping me, they pretend I don't exist.
At this point, I'm just looking to give it to someone that may have a use for it. I live in south Florida. If anyone wants it, come pick it up.

I do not get it!!! Pioneer DJ/ Alpha theta bought Serato dj and why can't Pioneer make the stems function sound at least as good as Serato??? Why was the FLX10 released, but mainly because of the Stems Track Separation function. Many people don't like it but I would say that this Stems function through AI is the future. Every DJ software has the stems function and I think it's good, I like it!

why even bother with real time stems? Just accept that customers will need more storage space and give them the option pre-process on their laptops the tracks they want to.
I can do a good quality separation of a 3 minute track in a few seconds with demucs on my M2. MacBook. A laptop with a decent Nvidia card would probably be even faster.

Teaching AI where artists place their mixing cues seems like a good way to not need DJs for much longer, doesn't it...

Stems...stems...stems...what is going on??? I am so angry at pioneer/at I have a flx10 and the stems are still unusable, track separation is a joke, mix point link will make you want to burn your house down its so useless and complicated. We keep getting these inane updates aggressively pushing streaming and mobile dj'ing and a bunch of useless stuff no one asked for or wants. Do you have any way to ask them wtf is going on? It's the utter lack of explanation/communication from at that drives me crazy. I wish clubs were not monopolised by at otherwise I'd throw rekordbox and my flx10 in the nearest river. This is getting to be beyond a joke.
We would imagine they know that stems needs upgrading. As I said in the video, a lot of the change here is under the hood. I am going to guess the recoding enables the ability to "fix" stems, and would be utterly amazed if the next meaningful update (7.1) doesn't fix that issue. I am also going to guess they are wanting to tie it in with standalone stems - but that is only an utter guess, I promise I have no info on that,.

I am new to dj'ing and I have a flx10, I have been paying for the 'core' plan not being aware it is included because I kept getting prompted to buy a subscription,I feel stupid for this, but it is pretty shady. I guess as a consumer coming from video I am so tired of being sold products that just don't work. At the end of the day it takes the joy out of trying to play music (rb is the least stable program I have ever used, and I work with adobe lol.) and that is just an awful thing to do to a person.
