FYI, I added up the final score wrong, should be 8-5, but it doesn't change the results either way
Can you explain about build section? Cuz I think MP52 is better build, and this vid shows it well, but you have it 1:1 for build.
@@pandamant666 I actually had more issues after the review was over, I might actually have given mp-52 the point had those issues shown earlier, Toydojo is actually replacing meteor for me
I really liked Maketoys despite some of the thin plastic and loose waist then they started having problems producing product on a regular basis so that kind made me a bit nervous about what would the future hold with them. MP-52 I wasn't thrilled with all of the early pics and probably about two months ago I decided that I would take the gamble and go MP. I was nervous when I heard about some QC issues, but I didn't seem to have any. I was pleasantly surprised by the MP-52 transformation and how the wings clean up. Can't wait to get the other two seekers and curious to see if they will release updated coneheads. Hopefully Maketoys will continue to rebound.
Agree on both counts
in a way i like both but mp-52 just has so much dang personality.
And a fake cock pit that sticks out in both modes like hell. Maketoys was mediocre from the get go. Yean no, Deformation Space's is the future of the seekers.
When it comes to the original 1984 bots in the MP line, I think Takara has made the best version of all the ones they have released so far compared to the 3p options. I was so ready to get Meteor until I saw MP-52 and never looked back. Meteor is an excellent looking figure, but I can't get past that head and opaque canopy. Those two things really take away from the premium look to me.
Thank you for the review! Great job as always. I also really appreciate how you explained the differences on the Make Toys EX version.
Thanks for watching
That intro was awesome! Love the split screen.
Yes! Been waiting for this! Thanks!
I'm still on the maketoys camp with this one. Hastak's lack of a waist swivel is too disturbing. Its like having a fancy car without a steering wheel. Great video TM!
Thanks
Meteor was the don till Mp52, but I'm waiting for Deformation Space DS-001.
Improves the things I don't like on Mp52, mainly the skinny legs, and the choice of grey.
Oh, and mostly the price tag!
Crimson Wings in the post!
I'll be reviewing that one too
I said it before...MT's seeker molds work soooo much better as Coneheads than they ever did OG seekers. Everything about the MT mold seems to fit the proportions of the coneheads animation model better imo. Curious to see how the Deformation Space Screamer is going to hold up next to MP 52.
Good point, thanks for watching
Agree 100% Even if TT does coneheads in this mold I won't replace MT. (MT for coneheads only)
Thank you. I was searching for this comparison, and you really hit the nail on the head.
Thanks for watching
I really enjoyed this TM. Your lighting is FANTASTIC.
Thank you sir
Great review as usual TMreview
Appreciate that
Very good comparison! Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much
Thanks for the video, very informative, still waiting on my MP-52 from BBTS, wish they would hurry up.
Thanks for the comparison video.
As an artist who still frequently draws TFs , It has always been about the bevel game. So kudos to Takara for keeping that aspect alive and well in their toys. However, I still think they fall short in MP head sculpt department. A lot of the MP heads and faces are too smooth and rounded. Original G1 balanced both bevel and sharp angels very well. The original Inferno diaclone head sculpt is a great example of bevel and sharp edge balance .
Cool insight, thanks
Always great videos but I will be most interested in an eventual comparison b/w Deformation and Takara versions. Thanks!
Definitely coming
Call me petty, but I just can't deal with Starscream being gray like that. It's not a good look for him, cartoon-accurate or not.
petty
Maketoys REALLY messed up by releasing the Meteor reissue the same week as MP-52. If it wasn't delayed by more than half a year, maybe Maketoys could've had more success.
Good point
Nice comparison, now we'll have to wait for that new deformation version to come out, on images it seems even better than the TT one!
What buggs me with the Deformation is the wings are to big in bot mode
I'll be reviewing that one for sure
I put on the Nusupply seekerheads om my Maketoys seekers.
They look very nice with the upgrade heads.
Would like to see comparison between Deormation Space Starscream and Mp52
Will do as soon as it comes
I wonder why TT didn't use MP-44s head for Starscream. I bought Meteor from a great seller with it a while back and love how it looks.
The gray on MP-52 has always been way too dark, as well as the cockpit. I'd like an MP-52 with the MakeToys pallette.
Weak knees? It’s one thing if it flat out falls over at the knees but who in world holds their transformers by the legs to see if it will fall backwards. Most to all of them will due to weight.
I have the MT version and was about to pull the trigger on TT but then Deformation showed theirs so I will wait and see. TT version might still by in stock for a while due to price.
Great honest comparison video, Thanks.
As someone who owns MP11 Starscream Thundercracker and Skywarp. All bought used. I’m considering upgrading because they are showing their age and joints are starting to break, I’ve had to super glue a few parts on both Skywarp and Starscream, Thundercracker has had no problems.
Yikes
One thing to keep in mind with cartoon accuracy is that the scale chart and even the animation model are not always indicative of how he was drawn in the actual episodes. Starscream tended to be depicted as a sort of menacing guy. He was a threat not just to the Autobots but to Megatron.
The TT just does not look threatening enough IMO. The chest and thighs really make him look kinda wimpy. When combined with his dimunutive size and a head thats a hair too big for his body, I think the figure just doesnt look quite right on a shelf with other 'cons. If you have bigger 'cons like the IT01 Megs or the RP01 Acoustic Wave, this issue is exacerbated.
The MT has issues but you can fix most of those issues with some aftermarket parts and some ingenuity. If you slap on some NuSupply stuff and get a different head on the MT, I think it has way more shelf presence than the TT.
The TT is better looking, but at the price, I will keep my MT with MP44 head. So many other figures I want to purchase that I do not have representations of in my collection, I will be happy with my MT seekers for awhile.
I didn't even think of putting the MP-44 head on MT, gonna try that later lol
@@TMReviewsdoes it work?
@@EricGallant24 no
MP-52 definitely for me!
Me too, thanks for watching Khai
Sold Meteor. Bought the Takara Tomy version. No QC issues with mine. Definitely getting the Thundercracker and Skywarp.
Same
I think what hurts the takara version is the price. Despite not having waist rotation it does have a lot of articulation and looks more faithful to the cartoon. Make toys needs to update their version if it ever happens.
Ya the price definitely hurts
Takara's looks really good, just like I remember him from childhood, first one to nail the head and shape of robot mode. Still, can't bring myself to spend $250 to get him.
Best I could do to have a Maketoys comparison as I have the 52's for the 3 but Im looking at Maketoys to replace my MP-11 Coneheads and picking up some of the EX rainmakers that use the Starscream mold.
WHAT?? Takara is back to putting diecast in their figures now. That’s great news.
Yup
In the 80s Wonder Woman had an invisible Jet like this...I wish they made it into a transformer
My preference is the New Age seekers. Love those guys.
I'm sure they are good, but wrong scale for this comparison
@@TMReviews Well if you use force perspective in the right way....
For masterpiece I'll keep Maketoys. I've bought the seekers too many times.
Ya I love newage, amazing products
Really good comparison! Meteor is half the price. Takara is A newer design. And yet the meteor has more articulation!!Takara is so much cleaner in appearance.
Thanks, ya they both have some good qualities
Well, I paid 175$ for my MP52 so definitely wins with a better margin for me!
I think I got that Amazon JP deal as well, but not sure if it was that low
@@TMReviews got it on anime-export for 19,600 yen (plus shipping so a little more)
Nice
Yeap. I have to sell my MT. This video are great. The details help me on my decision everytime.
Objectively, great review.
Thanks 👍
MP-52 Masterpiece G1 Starscream looks spot-on cartoon model-accurate in the front, but the back...not so much. I can say the same things about MP-52+ Thundercracker and MP-52+ Skywarp.
Great comparison and i agree with results. I’m still thinking that Takara size is too small but the Sunbow chart says otherwise. I guess Starscream always projected talker. Thank you again for the comparison.
Thanks for watching
Me encantan este tipo de videos, me ayudan a elegir la mejor opción. Saludos
Gracias
Nice video.
Thank you sir
Mp 52 looks so nicee. I want him but ive seen reviews where he has loose joints and pieces and have read some people got him with really bad qc on the paint. So im worried to
Maketoys looks like a nice update of the old MP figure while Takara looks cartoon accurate. I don't like the fake chest on the on Takara's which seems to be the current trend with faux parts. I also do not like their price. I'll spend my money on Maketoys.
I seriously hate it when I like parts of both and dislike parts of both in a comparison.
Do you think you'll do another comparison video between MP-52 and Deformation Space DS-001 when DS-001 is out? I was really digging MP-52 until I saw what was coming out of Deformation Space, and honestly they might have the same cartoon-accurate Starscream feel as Takara Tomy does, but in a potentially much better figure.
Of course I will
Great comparison Takara for the win but it does feel like a missed opportunity here. If MakeToys had a better head-sculpt it would close the gap. That said I'm not paying for another Seeker ser I've tapped out 🙄
Ya, I think a lot of us might be seekered out
Awesome Head 2 Head per usual...Visually Meteor is more Heroic and has the Poportions I prefer. TT does have the Nice Paint and more Hardware, my issue is the Balloony look of MP 52 and in my memories SS is Heroic and Svelte. For now Meteor will be my choice...until Deformation SS comes out.
I will be looking at deformation space so stay tuned
Neither figure nails the toon accuracy 100% and I now get why companies going for that can cause some serious visual problems. Both figures have kibble. The double wings with TT along with the way they tried to hide the tail wings is a fail. It's pretty obvious and that back is nowhere near as clean. This is the problem with trying to achieve the hyper toon accuracy of the animation models. Lets be honest...the artwork and the animation were all over the place in terms of actual quality. TOEI and AKOM never showed what actually happens to the Seekers tail fins when Transforming.
MT still gets the win. TT cheats with the faux cockpit and back that's clearly there to hide the faux cockpit. When does that Deformation Space figure release?
I prefer Maketoys - not into super toon accuracy. Saves me money as well.
I bought a KO MP 52 from showzstore, it came with everything except the head, I found out when I was transforming it, how anyone can pack it without a head is beyond me.
Wow
I am gonna be that guy and say that I prefer neither. I owned all the Maketoys Seekers, but sold them because I was unhappy with their face sculpts and loose waist connection. The Takara one looks goofy, like he is too toon. His proportions are off.
Hopefully deformation space will deliver a solid Starscream.
I'll be doing deformation space as well so stay tuned
@@TMReviews I shall look forward to your review. I will buy it regardless of your opinion, but I am curious what you will think of it.
MP 52 is by far the best starscream.
Agree
Yes there are some issues with mp52, but clearly the Mt one has even more issues. I have both of them, and I actually have 4 MT seekers, 3 main seekers + acid storm, and I also have MP52, I have experienced them all, and I tell you that MP52 is better. Yes MP52 is more expensive, but if we just compare about these 2 toys, I think price tag is not really about them toys themselves, the price is about the companies who make them, isn’t it?
Agreed, I personally prefer MP-52
The TT went on my main shelf and replaced the MT version. There was just too much I didn't like about meteor out the gate.
Nice
I was good with Meteor until I got a TT. Meteor = up for sell
Same
Great comparison 🌟😎.. Yeah Takara definitely takes this one
Takara looks good but he's too short and those ratchets don't seem strong at all. I don't want either.
I would choose DS-01 but due to tight joint and transformation process, I'll go with MP 52.
Now I don’t own MP52, nor meteor specifically, but I do have the lightning version of the mold. I say this because I wanna make it clear that I’m not saying MP52 is better, but that maketoys is ultimately an incredibly flawed figure and one whose flaws make it hard for me to recommend. The face sculls are all really off putting, especially for a Thundercracker, the alternate head is also just really ugly. The smaller head hardly fits. Into the nose cone and I’d actually recommend taking it off for transformation to avoid the risk of breakage. He hardly stands, his knees are week, his right thumb always comes off. I say this not as someone who cares about accuracy, but who cares about these figures as toys. I’m aware they’re kinda intended a display piece but like, these are transformers, it’s a toy franchise.
That faux chest cockpit on the mp52. Just why!? The real cockpit is right behind it!
It pissed me off of how dark the fake cockpit is 😭
Takara wins imo but I’ll keep my Maketoys in jet mode and Takara in robot mode, it’s a win win in my opinion
True
Make toys for me. Ty for the video
Ty for watching
I like both for different reasons. Definitely Takara is more reminiscent of the cartoon which is cool but maketoys has more of heroic shelf presence. Also similar quality. I think it comes down to aesthetics and what you prefer style wise.
Yup
Had i known, mp52 for screamer, maketoys for thundercracker, deformation(rumoured) for skywarp.
Had i known, mp52 for screamer, maketoys for thundercracker, deformation(rumoured) for skywarp.
You can probably still do that lol
I enjoy watching your reviews and comparison reviews like this one. I really wish you would leave cost out of it. Every time you bring it up and give a point to the cheaper version of the character. It’s not worth giving a point to a lesser product simply because it costs less. We all know most of the time the highest priced figure will be better, especially in a fans toys comparison. Most know this and opt to pay the higher price for the better product.
I hadn't considered dropping the category altogether, I'll think about that
@@TMReviews , no, I think you should keep it. If two toys are similar, of course the lower price tag one wins the buyer.
250? i cant find him anywhere for less than 275
Price went up after Initial release
I had The Trio of Maketoys seekers at one point and they were all flippity floppity messes. Those back leg panels kept sliding around, the waist never sat right, they wouldnt really hold normal poses, the tiny wing pieces popping out, etc. And I never liked the tiny heads. Still, I loved them because they were the only good representations of the characters, or so I thought at the time. Regardless of whether 52 is better or worse , I'm just glad there's another option (we'll wait and see about the DS one when it comes).
I also had the same experience, this version seems less floppy but still some of the same issues, personally I prefer MP-52
@@TMReviews I definitely plan on getting it. Hopefully I'll get a good sturdy copy.
I had good copies of the MT seekers, but the tail fins and the wings did keep popping off when I'd go to manipulate the arms. Still, the paint, diecast, and plastic quality of the MT offerings were amazing for the cost (all three together was a little more than what MP-52 is going for) and they held down the collection for quite some time. They really just needed new heads. I used the ones from the MP-11 seekers and they worked fine.
A first-rate comparison; moreover, Takara's engineering is awesome!
For sure
@@TMReviews You're doing awesome work! 👍
No mention that TT has a fake chest? To me that is lazy engineering. Its like they over engineered some parts and were lazy about others.
It doesn't factor into any of the review categories
MP-52 FTW! I think the third party options all look a bit poopy
No size comparisons?
Damn, forgot about that, did that in my standard review tho
Just another point for TT
@@TMReviews Okay man, thanks! I was interested because I heard the TT is smaller
I paint inside cabine mp-11, with yellow color And it’s best result than both.
Cool
Cool 📹 tm, 🙏🙏👍 u know im still w8n 4 my mp-52 the chosen prime sent it 2 me last week via FedEx with a signature upon arrival and everytime they tried 2 deliver it i was @work I called them they said they would re send it 2 me that Tues last week they sent it alright, right back to the chosen prime so Mr. Weik 📧 me 2 let me know they received it and they'll be re-sending it without a signature needed, but thats crazy bro 3weeks and I'm still w8n 4 my 1st Starscream 😱🥺, oh well 🙏📹👍
That sucks, but Brandon will definitely take care of that
Ugh I have 6 MP Starscream figures in my collection lol
Lol wow
@@TMReviews two of each version, might as well just keep them all.
You wouldn't be Jay if you didn't
Great Review - IMO - METEOR for the WIN - Wish I had him.
Meteor is so much cleaner and sleeker than Takara's 52/52+, both in 'Bot & "Alt modes.
The proportions on 52/52+ is also all wrong. Meteor's one detractor is his head. Besides Meteor being BETTER all around the #1 reason he wins is the PRICE POINT.
Thanks, ya meteor is still a good option
One of the few times where TT is actually the superior MP.
TT is almost always the superior MP.
@@bonefett728 Sounds like you have a bias against 3rd party figures…
@@fulcrumflare I have just as many 3rd party toys in my collection as official Takara
im for mp44
mp-52 far better for me
never liked the Maketoy version, aesthetics just never got me. Still thought my mp-11 is better looking than maketoys lol.
Not for me either
MP-11 is awful.
@@fulcrumflare Nah, MP-03 is kind of awful in robot mode. MP-11 is still nice
Omg just say Takara
Takara proved to be much superior to maketoys, Mp52 Starscream is better on all points of view with a very perfect toon g1 design, that bad clone of maketoys with that ugly little head, too white in color and very loose...
This time collect the trio of Mp Seekers it is a must!!!
Nah.
His addition is wrong, his actual score is 8-4 for TT, but the real score is 9-2 for TT. No contest. There's no way MT gets sculpt or build points. Transform (tie) and cost are MT only points. Everything else is a landslide victory for Takara. I don't know why this guy doesn't like TT, even with a clear superior product he finds ways to knock it.
Tt won, I literally said I prefer TT and I'm keeping it, you obviously didn't watch the video
@@TMReviews I did watch it. I'm saying TT victory is by greater margin. You gave un-merited points to MT just so you could find fault in TT.
@@bonefett728 Man, these are the second and third comments of your’s that I’ve seen in this section where you’re basically just trashing on 3rd party figures and giving all the praise to Takara at this point. Guess what? Takara, despite being the official licensed company, has made critical mistakes with plenty of their figures, and a lot of the time, people prefer their 3rd party counterparts. Now, I’m not bashing Takara, but since they’re the official company, they are held to higher standards, and they definitely don’t always deliver.
Honestly, it just sounds like you’re one of those snobs who is all for the official products and never gives 3P products any consideration whatsoever, and goes out of their way to trash on 3P products if anything. This man is one of the least biased reviewers you’ll see on CZcams, he does his best to give his honest opinion while also not letting biases get to him. Apparently, though, that’s not enough to make you happy.
@@fulcrumflare You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about
articulation to maketoys? - lol
ikr he gives points to MT for a flimsy waist and wings that aren't suppose to move at all and ignores fingers, shoulders, knees and ankles lol
@@bonefett728 waist that breaks canopy mold...
Not sure why it matters, that point would have made no difference in the outcome
@@TMReviews well if that point is wrong isn't the rest right?
If the point is wrong that just makes TT win by a bigger margin, no change on outcome
