@@penniesshillings you are kindness personified. You have taught me and made me realise so much that I now found someone here in Cape Town to help me. Although I still admit that I wish you stayed next door to me lol

Another good video, thanks. This is tempting me to put together a set from NZ , Aus, UK, South Africa and Ireland of the pre-decimal coins from the same year. I'll need to do some research as I don't want to pick a year where 1 coin is unaffordable, I saw your other video on the 1931 tikey.
Of interest is the history of the Florin, in 1849 as a first step towards decimalisation a florin was introduced 'as one tenth of a pound.' It omitted the D.G. Dei Gratia, grace of god and was known as the godless florin. Half Crown production ceased but was brought back alongside the florin.
They also brought out a double florin 4/- (to be 1/5th of a pound) but that was confused with the Crown and was nicknamed the 'barmaids folly' and was withdrawn. It took another 122 years for decimalisation to come in.

The 'godless' florin. That is absolutely hilarious. I didn't know a double florin existed. That is indeed an odd denomination... Maybe a series on 'odd' coins should be interesting. The US 3c coin comes to mind.

Best way is to post pictures on a facebook group (SACCG). There's bound to be an expert on those coins that can advise you.
