Planet Hulk > World War Hulk story arc is one of the best ones in all of comics, which is why it was so disappointing to see it turned into a shitty knee-slapping comedy in Thor: Ragnarok. What a waste.
I agree with you about Planet Hulk and WW Hulk, but that doesn't mean I didn't like Thor:Ragnarok. These are movies, and they don't have the rights to do Huk solo movies (if I understand that correctly), so I'm happy for what we got.
You are correct. Planet Hulk is the emotional buildup and World War Hulk is the rage-induced payoff. The first time I read Planet Hulk, I got chills whenever there was one of those Sakaar prayers. Plus it introduced the Warbound, who have been criminally underused after WWH. I like the story so much that I'm considering getting a tattoo that says "May he who dies, die well."
I like your two Peter David picks, and they demonstrate a basic problem with Greg Pak's Totally Awesome Hulk: Amadeus Cho doesn't have the pathos to balance off the Hulk's strength like the Bruce Banner (when he's written well) does. Being the Hulk isn't supposed to be a charmed life. In addition to Peter David's final issue, I'm a big fan of: "Destroyer from the Dynamo" (Incredible Hulk 166) "X Factor"(?) (Incredible Hulk 223-225) The Hulk Annual featuring Angel, Iceman, and the Master Mold "The Living Shadow" (Incredible Hulk 184) The 1976 Hulk Annual, featuring Xemnu the Titan and a host of Marvel monsters
World War Hulk was amazing!!! The tie-in books also featured some of the best action from the Green Goliath...and Iron Man should have had a lot more trouble to take down the Hulk in Avengers 2...

The Ground Zero arc should be on the list. Not only is it a great Hulk story but is also the best Leader story ever. He manipulates everyone to get what he wants, and actually destroys the Hulk in the end. This story also leads to the Joe Fixit era.

Interesting, left out his run with the Pantheon. Back in the day he had the mind of Bruce with the body of Hulk until he got mad and then... Mind of Hulk, body of Bruce. It was an big switch for the character and the Pantheon stuff was a cool set of characters.

For the record while they did sent hulk to exile they would've sent him somewhere he could live in peace and alone as he wanted without fear of hurting anyone of him being hunted and persecuted it's by mere chance of fate he ended in sakar and everything in wwhulk and planet hulk occured granted they should've at least ran the idea by Bruce since he's with the most at stake
Ryan Gasser I agree to a point. Planet Hulk showed his growth and acceptance of who he was and what he could be, but it was all taken away from him in an instant. Who wouldn't want to know what happened next? WWH showed what every man could become if his whole world was snatched from his grasp. The anguish and the pain he felt is shown in the series, but it also showed the empathy of a man when faced with loss also. He could've killed or captured Prof. X, but instead, he let him dwell within his own sorrow and self loathing about what happened to the mutants. So many people he could've smashed, but he still kept his composure to the point of just wanting to show them of his experiences instead of killing them outright. Both series go hand in hand, being a man on both sides of Hulk's situations (metaphorically), I understand why WWH was #1.
You guys for got the short story line, only called "Banner". It has Doc Samson looking for Banner, only after the Hulk goes on a rampage looking for Banner. Banner keep changing into the Hulk cause he kept trying to kill himself. Hulk wakes up, pissed off yelling for "BANNER!"
Having actually read them all, I can say with 100% certainty that number 3 is the best Hulk story. Number 2 was close. World War Hulk was enjoyable but almost all spectacle with little actual story.
