Of special interest to Americans. See that gilded eagle on top of Cote bistro at 1:16:30? That's because that building was the very first consulate of the infant United States anywhere in the world. It opened in 1790; and includes Nathaniel Hawthorne amongst its many consuls. There's so much history in Liverpool. It lost its castle after the Civil War, though. That was where the Victoria Monument now stands at 1:22:56...the highest point in the city. King John ordered it built there to protect the new port. Walking from there to the Town Hall is along Castle St. itself.
