I really enjoy watching ur videos, especially compared to most booktubers because you read so much and you read all the books you personally love and enjoy! Sad to see how a lot of booktubers are mostly reading sponsored books now and everywhere i just see the same damn books
I never mind sponsorships but I think there needs to be a balance. If more than 75% of your books are sponsored then it sucks (especially if you only read a couple books a year!). If it's under 33-50% then I'm okay with it! It gets old really fast to see only the same books over and over again :)
I was fine before watching this video, I was okay with not buying any more books for a while. I haven't got a huge pile of unread books, but I wanted to have two or three left unread before buying new books. Boy...after watching this I had to step away from the computer to prevent any online shopping XD
I usually get my books from Value Village or The Thrift Store. I always find the newest books there; especially the popular ones, in brand new condition for a couple of dollars. Can't beat it.
Emily, I wish you could do a complete book recommendations video, something like the 15 books you think everyone should read or your favorite book from each genre. That would make me so happy! Keep up the great work xx
I really liked this book haul. You have a lot of variety in genre and while some are books that have been seen a lot and are popular with a lot of other booktubers, you then have about half that aren't seen a lot or at all on booktube. These are the kind of book hauls I like and the kind of book hauls I don't skim through. Great haul!
Adichie's "We Should All Be Feminists" is absolutely incredible! The TED talk that inspired it is always a great watch; very inspiring! I swear, one of these days I'm going to start The Remnant Chronicles and the Shades of Magic. I have all of them and they sound amazing, but it just hasn't happened yet. Too many books, not enough time. Ugh.
I'm so happy that you're open on trying out diverse books and also, you're like the 2nd booktuber I know that doesn't haul and read too many books that are hyped because it kind of gets boring when majority of the booktubers talks about the same books.
I just read The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet (and the sequel companion novel, A Closed and Common Orbit) and they smashed their way into my favourite books ever. Read it as soon as you can - you'll love it!
I just realized you might be French Canadian (I am too!) and it's so refreshing and I don't know why! I'm new to your channel because I've been on the hunt for a great booktube channel and yours is literally perfect. You're amazing, sending you love from Quebec city! (I hope I'm not wrong haha but if I am you're still amazing!)
so glad to see you're reading the song of achilles! one of my favorite books tbh. it's based on homer's iliad aka the trojan war, so more fiction than history. this is a beautiful book, but i recommend you line something up really happy and fluffy to read after to get your mind off the pain tbh!
People like to say that you don't need to read Grisha trilogy before Six of Crows, but I think that it's a great idea!!! I loved this trilogy, and from it you will know so much more about grisha's magic and history!!
Sci Fi: Hitchhikers's guide to the galaxy by Douglas Adams, Foundations series by Isaac Asimov Non-fiction: Forensics: the anatomy of crime by Val McDermid, Freakonomics by Levitt and Dubner, Why Darwin matters by Michael Shermer
For Sci fi, i highly recommand "the carpetmakers" (des milliards de tapis de cheveux in french). This one is so different and each chapter give a new piece of the puzzle of carpetmakers.
Ryan North's Romeo and/or Juliet is hilarious and fun. You can even use it as a party game and get everyone involved in choosing their adventure. There are pirates and there are ninjas, so many possibilities. And Romeo is a complete dolt, whereas Juliet is bad ass and capable.
One of my favorite non fiction books is Smoke Gets in Your Eyes & Other Lessons from the Crematory by Caitlin Doughty. I also really love the book Night by Elie Wiesel!
Packing for Mars is the book I had to read for my first year of university. I'm not big into Non-fiction but it was actually pretty good! And I got to meet the author and she signed it for me :D
"The Three-Body Problem" is awesome: unpredictable and quite imaginative. I'm waiting for the reaming books of the trilogy in Spanish. By the way, I love when you say "huge"...It's so french...Saludos!
11.22.63 is my favourite Stephen King novel. I stayed up all night to read it to the end and it was amazing. I loved it. Time travel and terrific characters and slow building tension.
Claire North is brilliant. The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August and The Sudden Appearance of Hope are such great reads. Highly highly highly recommend you read her books!
The Farseer Triology is one of my absolute faves. And yeah, there are three triologies following Fitz and his compansions from childhoold to middle age. The last book is coming out now in May
So many amazing books! Book Thief is simply a stunning work of art, it sent me into the abyss of WWII historical fiction. Illuminae I gave three stars on, loved the format and I read it in one night. My problem with it was it's simply too far into YA for my liking. Every time I tried to get Angry Planet is was always sold out! Time to try again!
I was thinking a fun video could be a book/movie video! Like about books that are movies now, which ones you've seen and which ones you do or don't like, major differences, ones you want to see, etc etc stuff like that! I just think it'd be fun or interesting!!
I'll also be reading The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August this month! I'm so excited (: I finished The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet a few months ago and it was AMAZING,
I'm currently reading The Stand and so far (I'm not that far in) it's really good! I love King's writing style and the characters are very interesting as well!
I read Oryx and Crake and Between the World and Me in various English classes at college. I really enjoyed both of them, especially oryx and crake. Only heads up I'll give about Between the World and Me is that it's not really written in a a typical narrative sense. It's like a beautifully written essay is the best way I can describe it. Another really good nonfiction book I recommend is The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander. Anyway, thanks for the new video, and happy reading!
I was told to read the Grisha Trilogy first because some characters from it will pop up in Six of Crows anyway and it'll make Six of Crows even more fun to read so I'm reading the Grisha Trilogy first too!! Love your videos by the way! You're my favorite booktuber :))
As for non - fiction, I don't them a lot but one book that stood out to me and I feel everyone should read it is "The five people you meet in heaven by Mitch Albom". Trust me when I say this, this book is NOT at all religious! And regardless of what religion you follow, if you do, you will absolutely love this book! (Also the main character fought in WW2, and his life after the war, if you're into WW2 books like me)
I've got Truthwitch and Illuminae on my to-read list too - probably going to be read this month! I just read the first two books of The Winner's Curse series (legit binge read both over the weekend) and the third is out in paperback this week soooo guess I'll be finishing it too. SO GOOD. So thanks for that recommendation!
I love zombie movies so I enjoyed the movie, but other then the titles, the movie and book were totally different. Both good, but the book concept was so much better! The audiobook was read by a full cast, which made that awesome also! I cried reading The Book Thief!
i've seen the brain on fire movie and it's so amazing. while i haven't read the book, im sure if there's an amazing movie then the book is just even better especially since the author was the person who experienced it all!
Hi em, I decided to jump back into reading.... To be quite honest i havent enjoyed a book since middle school when i was quite the book worm, then i discovered makeup and quickly it changed! I realize now i can do both, and because i love your other channel, i know i can trust you Could you do a video about easy books to get someone back on reading, or engaging books that dont make me fall asleep, or just tell me your top picks please!
No ahahahah but i do love your answer! What I meant was I got a new hobbie! All the books I've reead since were either makeup/beauty related, for school or about the makeup industry when i was getting my license... I haven't enjoyed an actual novel or fiction book like I used to, you know?
I'm experiencing book haul envy right now I'm trying not to impulsively shop for books online 😬😂 I just finished reading the Angelfall series & I really think you're going to like World After cause its as action packed as the 1st one (even more so I think). I'd really like to read The Remnant Chronicles, you're excitement about this series is contagious I hope I'll like it too 🤗.
Post-apocalyptic books: THE BOOK OF THE UNNAMED MIDWIFE by Meg Elison THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER by Octavia Butler CALIFORNIA by Edan Lepucki MARA AND DANN by Doris Lessing ZONE ONE by Colson Whitehead STONE GODS by Jeanette Winterson Science Fiction: The LILITH'S BROOD series by Octavia Butler ANCILLARY JUSTICE by Ann Leckie THE BEST OF ALL POSSIBLE WORLDS by Karen Lord Reliving your life: LIFE AFTER LIFE by Kate Atkinson
When I watched 'The book thief' movie, instantly wanted to read the book and haven't had the chance yet, the movie is sooo amazing, I had trouble that night to sleep because it kept me thinking a lot...
I read The Stand many years ago and really enjoyed it. My favourite Stephen King books are Rose Madder, The Tommyknockers, IT and Insomia. The Gunslinger is not the best in The Dark Tower series. My personal favourite is book 4 Wizard and Glass I feel reading it that you can read it as a standalone and it was the first I read in the series. I am not very good at telling people about books without giving spoilers so I will let you look them if you haven't already. I have Truthwitch on my wish list think it sounds very intriguing too but will not be getting to it for a while. I have read Elantris as well and loved it really want to get to Mistborn at some point. Robin Hobb is excellent I have recently started a reread except for The Soldier Son trilogy all of her trilogies are set in the same world. This haul is awesome you have some great books!
A 25 cent book in perfect condition??? That's amazing. Where I live, it's almost impossible to find a book that's less than 10$, which forces me to pirate ebooks. I had my goodreads page open while I was watching this video, and added 3 or 4 books that looked interesting. I like how you plan what to read at the beginning of the month. I usually wait until I'm finished with a book then pick the first one I see after 😂 Great video 👍🏽
I'm reading my first collection of Stephen King short stories right now, Bazaar of Bad Dreams. I don't know if you've read his short stories but they're amazing! I also love his little prologues to the stories that give you insight into how they came to be. Good if you don't have time to read a giant long novel of his but want to read some Stephen King! ALSO the story in Bazaar I'm reading right now is kind of like the Harry August story only more twisted.
The Stand is great, but you should definitely read It, Salem's Lot and Carrie. It is also a huge tome, bit it is extremely scary and chilling. Salem's lot is also very chilling and Carrie is rather short yet still one of his best.
I love Stephen King. His most liked books are The Dark Tower series but the is a 7 book series and not really short after the first couple. If you like Dystopian then The Cell is a bit like that and it catches you from the start.
'Salems Lot - Stephen King. It's about a small town where weird happenings begin once a strange man moves into the Marstens house. The Marstens house has a dark history from the last residence who resided there. There is a lot of POV switching, but the main Character is an author named Ben Mears. I can't give much more without spoiling it, but it's a pretty cool book. 400+ pages.
Idk if you were recommended this book but check out 172 Hours on the Moon! It's a sci-fi about three people winning a contest to spend a 172 Hours on the Moon but once they get there things start happening.... definitely a good thriller sci-fi if you like space or mysteries behind the Moon!
You like post-apocalypse/science non-fiction? I might have some recs that might sort of fit in both: Darwin's Dreampond - Tijs Goldschmidt about evolution of tylapia in lake victoria and it also sort of deals with species extinction. Spillover - David Quammen about spillover of diseases from animals to humans. It deals with the topic of how pandemic diseases appear and how animals can have them and not necessarily dy (HIV, flues, and more ard discussed in it).
Great video! I read Six of Crows before Shadow and Bone, and I actually liked the Grisha trilogy better because of it. I feel like Six of Crows explains the magic system and the world better, so I had a better understanding of it when I read Shadow and Bone.
If you haven't read it, a sci-if book I really enjoyed was "Terra" by Mitch Benn. It's about a young human girl who is raised on an alien planet...very interesting story.
Oryx and Crake and The Year of the Flood are fantastic! I have not read Maddadam yet but hope to get to it soon! The Snow Queen by Joan D. Vinge is a great sci-fi book with many strong female characters. If you like Stephen King you should try Carrie
Oryx and Crake is AMAZING. Margaret Atwood is a dystopian goddess. The first book is pretty perfect. The second book is basically a retelling of the first one but from a different character's POV. So... I recommend just reading the first one and leaving it at that! Hope you enjoy it :) Also, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is REALLY important, as you said. I don't know why we don't learn about her in school, especially if you study science. I did and didn't hear about her at all. Not in biology, chemistry or genetics. All of which have used her cells. I hope you find it equally awesome. Happy reading! Brain on Fire is on my TBR, too. It sounds a little like Prozac Nation? Maybe? Please do a review of it! I also just ordered The Song of Achilles and can't wait to read it for M/M May
World War Z is really good. If you really want to be creeped out you should listen to the audiobook. It's so awesome! I wasn't really a fan of the movie though. My book recommendation is Mistress of the Art of Death by Arianna Franklin. The book is about a young woman who is a doctor and goes to England to investigate a string of murders for King Henry. It's forensics and history. I love it because in future books Eleanor of Aquitaine is a character and she is one of my favorite historical figures (also read a Proud Taste of Scarlet and Miniver ;-) )
If you like apocalyptic type of books, try reading the enemy by Charlie higson, it's about a disease that only infects adults, therefore you go on a journey on how kids try to survive... I couldn't get into it when I first started reading it but after I kept at it, i ended up liking it and wanting to find out what happens
You should read IT by Stephen King -- also The Shining and Dr. Sleep (they are a one and two parter). REally you can't go wrong with Mr. King, he is the best!
The Stand is truly epic. My favorite King is The Shining; when I was a kid I loved The Talisman, but I haven't reread it so I'm not sure if I'd enjoy it as much as an adult. Insomnia was fun, too. But do not read Desperation. That one is terrible.
I read the Three Body Problem and it really wasn't the best read for me, but you may find it better depending on some circumstances. Some of the characters aggravated me, and you need a very large and extensive science (specifically physics) background to get the main concepts of the book. The characters and their conflict was overall really good, but I didn't get the book simply because the concepts were too specific for me to understand at my age (I'm 14).
I am in the same boat - I have heard so many mixed reviews about TruthWitch! But I need to develop my own opinion about it, because I find that I really enjoy most books that others aren't so keen on. It is definitely on my TBR for this month! I really want to read Six of Crows, but like you, I need to read the Grisha trilogy beforehand, because I need to read the author's works in chronological order!
Six of crows is amazing first off and I am currently reading Crooked Kingdom and loving it so far. The shadow and Bone series is decent as well. The book thief is amazing I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. I also have brain on fire on my list of want to read. I have so many books currently on the go. I have 6 out from the library right now. And so many in my room that I need to read! Also you would like station eleven by emily st mendel. Also we should always read books that are exciting otherwise whats the point! Great haul lovely!
Oryx and Crake is great! definitely read the whole trilogy - i actually preferred the 2nd and 3rd books over oryx and crake. also yes the 3 body problem is SUPER popular here in china. almost all my students say that it is their favorite book :) enjoy! you have a great reading list this month.
Joyland by Stephen King was the first book of his that I read and it was really good! The Stand looks huuge...also felt intimidated by the size of IT - 1,392 pages ahh! Hope you enjoy, great video!
BookswithEmilyFox U need to read Mr.Mercedes by Stephen King, I'm reading it right now and it's AMAZING. I highly recommend it!! Please read it.
i agree! Mr Mercedes is on my tbr for as soon as i finish Cinder I love Stephen King
I've accidently listened to the 3rd book of that series first... really liked it but I can't see myself reading 1 and 2 now haha
I was fine before watching this video, I was okay with not buying any more books for a while. I haven't got a huge pile of unread books, but I wanted to have two or three left unread before buying new books. Boy...after watching this I had to step away from the computer to prevent any online shopping XD
Hauls do the same to me :P
Same! Especially on Book Outlet. Book Outlet is my weakness!!
just watching this video i wanna go look at book outlet too lol
I usually get my books from Value Village or The Thrift Store. I always find the newest books there; especially the popular ones, in brand new condition for a couple of dollars. Can't beat it.
Love going to Value Village for books!
BookswithEmilyFox OMG, really?!? YAY ❤
Emily, I wish you could do a complete book recommendations video, something like the 15 books you think everyone should read or your favorite book from each genre. That would make me so happy! Keep up the great work xx
I'll definitely do some in the future once I've read enough books! For now there's my 2016 favorites!
Thank you!
Again, I'm just stunned how similiar our reading tastes are! So many books in your video I have read and the others I want to read!
It's great to have someone to watch with basically the same taste haha
I love how you put the books you've hauled facing the camera on your shelves
I really liked this book haul. You have a lot of variety in genre and while some are books that have been seen a lot and are popular with a lot of other booktubers, you then have about half that aren't seen a lot or at all on booktube. For Sci fi, i highly recommand "the carpetmakers" (des milliards de tapis de cheveux in french). This one is so different and each chapter give a new piece of the puzzle of carpetmakers.
This video just reminds me of how much I love book mail and how many books I still want to get and read!!
I just got Illuminae too! right after I read A Conjuring of Light, I'm going for that one!
Truthwitch is amazing! I just read it as part of a buddy read and I was enthralled by it.
Some good books in this haul. I see Gerald's Game on your shelf. That book really got to me when I read it. The Stand is a classic. Enjoy your books!
I'm keeping Gerald's Game for fall!! Can't wait :D
One of my favorite non fiction books is Smoke Gets in Your Eyes & Other Lessons from the Crematory by Caitlin Doughty. I also really love the book Night by Elie Wiesel!
So many books in there I need to pick up! I'm excited to hear what you think about them first though. Happy reading!

Another recommendation for you : Autre Monde saga by Maxime Chattam. It s about a post apocalyptic Word in 7 books, only in French. I loved It !!
Can't wait to hear what you think of Oryx and Crake!
When I watched 'The book thief' movie, instantly wanted to read the book and haven't had the chance yet, the movie is sooo amazing, I had trouble that night to sleep because it kept me thinking a lot...
I got oryx and crake as a gift so i didn't know much about it, and it's absolutely amazing, one of my favourite series

Youre going to love A Conjuring of Light. It's action-packed from page one. VE Schwab is queen 👑
If you like King, check out Pet Semetary and It. Those are two of the best IMO.
I haven't read A World Without You, but I read Across the Universe, which is also by Beth Revis, a few years ago and really liked it! :)
Brain on Fire is so good! I read it for my psychology class! I am excited to see what you think of it!
Can't wait to read it!
Omg! So happy so uploaded today!! So need the pick me up!!! On to watch the video now 😊
I hope things get better :)
BookswithEmilyFox thanks :)
The Stand is great, but you should definitely read It, Salem's Lot and Carrie. It is also a huge tome, bit it is extremely scary and chilling. Salem's lot is also very chilling and Carrie is rather short yet still one of his best.
I love love loved The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet! It was amazing.
I need to pick it up!
BookswithEmilyFox Definitely! I think you will really enjoy it
I love Stephen King. His most liked books are The Dark Tower series but the is a 7 book series and not really short after the first couple. If you like Dystopian then The Cell is a bit like that and it catches you from the start.
I've officially put A Darker Shade of Magic on my birthday list! :D
Well it looks like I will be adding more books to my wishlist. I feel like I'm the only one that didn't like a darker shade of magic...
kiofairy im with u😂
kiofairy same, I wasn't really feeling it but I might try the sequel anyway
what a book haul! happy reading.
I might have some recs that might sort of fit in both:
Darwin's Dreampond - Tijs Goldschmidt about evolution of tylapia in lake victoria and it also sort of deals with species extinction.
Spillover - David Quammen about spillover of diseases from animals to humans. It deals with the topic of how pandemic diseases appear and how animals can have them and not necessarily dy (HIV, flues, and more ard discussed in it).
The Stand is my absolute favorite novel by Stephen King. It's amazing.
Wow! I thought that the screen cap shows before and after unboxing! Turns out it was just that many books xD
Salems' Lot & Rose Madder by Stephen King ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!! Highly recommend those two if you haven't read them yet!! 😊👍👍
I also just ordered The Song of Achilles and can't wait to read it for M/M May
Love your book hauls and can't wait to see your monthly wrap up!
Hi Emily, I enjoyed The Stand. It's really long, but really good. I'm currently reading First fifteen Lives, so far so good. Great vid!
I read Brain on Fire when it first came out and really liked it - hope you enjoy it too!
If you like apocalyptic type of books, try reading the enemy by Charlie higson, it's about a disease that only infects adults, therefore you go on a journey on how kids try to survive... I couldn't get into it when I first started reading it but after I kept at it, i ended up liking it and wanting to find out what happens
Because of this video I just went on bookoutlet and placed an order! I can never watch a book hall without wanting to buy a whole bunch of books after
I'm the same haha
I just got Elantris for my Reddit Book Exchange 2017. Can't wait to read it.
You should read IT by Stephen King -- also The Shining and Dr. Sleep (they are a one and two parter). REally you can't go wrong with Mr. King, he is the best!
The Year of the Flood by Margret Atwood is also super good so I think you could totally finish the series :)
The Stand is truly epic. My favorite King is The Shining; when I was a kid I loved The Talisman, but I haven't reread it so I'm not sure if I'd enjoy it as much as an adult. Insomnia was fun, too. But do not read Desperation. That one is terrible.
Pleaseee try the drawing of the three, at least the first part, its amazing
OMG! I've just discovered your book channel, i didn't know you had it **! OH MY GOD! YAS!!!
if you like post apocalyptic books you NEED to read The 5th Wave series! it's a trilogy and even been made into a movie now
I would definitely recommend Firestarter by Stephen King and Desperation by Stephen King. I enjoyed both of those books.
Thank you! I'm really excited :D
I think you should try a classic Stephen King book before you dive into The Stand, such as Misery or The Shining. Hope you like them!
Joyland by Stephen King was the first book of his that I read and it was really good! The Stand looks huuge...also felt intimidated by the size of IT - 1,392 pages ahh! Hope you enjoy, great video!
