Wonderful!!! Straw bags have been in fashion for a few years now and I hope I'll make one using your tutorial! The thicker yarn is better but when you used yellow it looks more like a straw bag, so I'll use yellow.

Have you tried crocheting with plastic bags? Cutting them into strips, knotting them together to make it long enough to crochet? I have made a few bags out of plastic and they came out great.

Hi, how do you know the raffia yarn is thicker? Is it labelled as a thicker yarn? This is beautiful! I have arthritis in my finger, will it work using ordinary herringbone sc, without going through the back and under? I don't think my finger will appreciate it! Or would it work with jute yarn, which will be softer, I think? Thanks, Stella

fyi...I buy larger skeins from Wool and the Gang and have bought the Premier brand which are smaller skeins. Love working with raffia.

Second yarn not hurt my hands Sandy. It was soft. First one hurts a little but not like paper yarns :) They are worst :)))
