  • Here is 36-004, a new hybrid bus on route 11 Parc-du-Mont-Royal / Ridgewood of Société de transport de Montréal, the transit system of Montreal. STM has 27 hybrids on order for this year and is part of a collective order of more than 400 hybrid buses for nine Quebec transit agencies ordered by Association du transport urbain du Québec (ATUQ). Originally to be delivered in 2014, these STM hybrids were delayed by two years due to budget problems, but these have been mostly solved.
STM's new hybrid buses feature the iBus announcement system, which tracks the bus location by GPS and announces each stop. Older buses are being retrofitted with the same system. There is also air conditioning, but was apparently not working at that time and the sliding windows are locked.

I like that the iBus system can actually be heard calling stops, unlike the STL's quiet announcements.

The best iBus system would be in the RTC, really like the LCD display displaying the next few stops and the announcements were clear.
Last time I went on the STL was in 2014, and I do recall that I didn't quite hear the announcements. In fact I didn't know there were announcements until I noticed the display up front.

In fact, STL Buses who only display a single (one) street name have voiceover, but, sometime the volume is loud, or, low, by contrast, the buses who display double (two) streets in same screen the voiceover is not here because there still had not recorded.
Anyway, the voiceover on STL buses i belived or not were recorded since between 2008-2009.

I heard some negative reviews on these buses, one is that the AC wasn't working and the STM locked the windows so the back was very hot

Yeah the windows were locked and the A/C not working, it's very annoying. Hope this gets fixed soon.
Also, if the STM doesn't want those windows to be opened, why trick them with the sliding windows? They should have went with the frameless windows like the RTC Quebec did with their hybrids.

+Herb Fong photography I did some research and I found that 7 won't have A/C and Buses 36-021-36-027 will have frame-less windows.

That's correct. I photographed 36-021 with frameless windows at St-Eustache and I believe the non-A/C buses are 36-011 to -017.

+Herb Fong photography Can I see the photo? Just wondering how it looks with the Livery

My photo doesn't have the livery, it's just all white with the number.

They’re so loud for hybrid buses! I’ve never heard a hybrid bus sounding this loud. Especially compared to 2015 MAN Lion’s City Hybrid buses, which are completely quiet at stops. czcams.com/video/p4PQ9g7gVnQ/video.html

and seriously Nova Bus design is so ugly, can’t believe it hasn’t changed. Had it been a car no one would buy a car so ugly.

Maybe it's because of my camera. I don't find them too loud myself.

Well I’ve had the opportunity to ride one of those and I found it almost as loud as the Diesel ones. And the thermic engine does not seem to stop when the bus stops, which is weird for a hybrid bus.

It actually can stop, but it seems the STM did not choose that stop-and-go option. The RTC Quebec hybrids does have that feature and the engine stops whenever the bus is not moving.
