What is a Browser Hijacker (browser hijacking):
    www.techtarget...
Browser hijackers are annoying at best, and a major security risk at worst. Browser hijackers work to modify a web browser's settings without the user's permission in order to redirect the users to unwanted and usually malicious websites, possibly in order to steal the passwords and user credentials. This malware can also contain spyware that collects sensitive data, and extorts victims to unlock it, or sell it to malicious third parties.
Have you ever been victim to browser hijacking? How did you remove it?

My worst experience was with Trotux. That thing was a monster to get rid of. When you try uninstall from Control Panel, it just gives you a sarcastic popup window saying its been removed but all it did was hide itself from the programs list on Control Panel. It tried using different mainstream AVs and it was still there because of some registry keys it created that the AVs were not actioning. Ironically I managed to get rid of it using a borderline rogue AV tool 🤣. After it was gone, I removed the rogue AV and ran another scan with my preferred AV, and just to be safe I took down important bookmarks on my browser, uninstalled my browser, went through through the registry editor and deleted every single entry related to Chrome, restarted my pc and then reinstalled Chrome. It was a nightmare to get rid of

Try looking at getting an antivirus for your phone. I use Avast, it's pretty solid (not sure how good it is against browser hijackers), and see if that fixes it. But on top of running an AV scan, also uninstall your browser and remove any remaining traces of it from your phone. Once you've done that, reboot your phone and reinstall the browser. Hopefully that will work. As an absolutely last drastic (all-hope-is-lost) situations, perform a factory reset on your phone. That's a guaranteed fix, but just be careful what files you backup beforehand. If you backup the file that gave you the hijacker, then transferring it back onto your clean phone can re-infect it again. Hope you come right

Would a reset solve the problem completely or is the spyware so advanced that it persists (hijacker)?

Currently battling a hijacker. Keeps reinstalling itself or other hijacking things. Downloading extensions, redirecting me to bing for some reason, and adding a management to my browsers. I believe I might have gotten rid of it fully, but I can't know for sure. Registry editor.
