I love your style of reaction. Instead of me trying to look for the time stamps of my favourite parts, you find them for me and you repeated them at least twice. Absolutely love it. Maybe because Sohyang is my queen, and this is one of my favourite Sohyang song.

I am so surprise that you got to Sohyang in her performances during the King of Masked Singer period. She had 9 amazing performances on the show and each one special and different. However, this is my favorite performance from her on the show. Sohyang is known for her exceptional belt and impeccable vocal technique, but it's always the emotive delivery that makes her truly special to me. The Breathe stage defines how amazingly effective in her low tone and angelic head voice - it fills you with so much empathy and warmth. And the extended straight note at the end. Such a tear activator. Thanks for the attentive reaction.
Honestly, when I listen to this performance, I literally feel that I am the intended recipient of this song - and I suspect many in the audience feel the same way.

Very much enjoyed your reaction to this song. I think this is a harder one to review as it is powerful but with a different mood and backdrop compared to so many of her other standards. To me this song has its own unique beauty as it is connected to the songwriter in tribute.

Sohyang sings to comfort people who are weary and in sorrow and this song is comfort itself. Her heavenly head voice is ... no need to say anything about it but just enjoy it.

Wow thank you for mentioning Jonghyun. It hurts to think that he is gone but I always keep listening to his music. He was one of the few Korean artists that I love so much that I was willing to go to Korea and see live. I am still so sad that I missed seeing him when I went to see SHINee. They came to France in 2016 but he was missing because he stayed in Korea since he was promoting his first solo album She Is.
I am more accustomed to the original version by Lee Hi and I often listen to Jonghyun's version, so I was wondering if Sohyang was going to add her "high notes" in this song too or not. She did and it was not over the top. Also, the fact that she picked that song prior to Jonghyun's death means that she really connected with it and so it makes me wonder if she would have been able to sing it still AFTER his death. The song would have been even more charged in emotions. But maybe she did ? I am catching up with her performances.

The one thing I hate hearing about artists is that they are the personification of other artists ... So Hyang is not S. Koreas Mariah Carey she is South Koreas So Hyang an artist that is amazing in her own right not in the shadow of another artist and in my humble opinion her Skills Technique Tone Musicality and Virtuosity outshine Mariah Carey Whitney Houston Celine Dion (frequent comparisons) by leaps and bounds .. but hey that's just me.
Yes Richard So Hyang is an amazing artist in her own right as are other artists and everyone is different. I think modifiers are a way that get people into discovering an artist they haven't heard about before - but certainly at that point the comparisons are not at all necessary as the artist is great for who they are. This is why I haven't done any artist comparisons @Richard Gamache :)

For example, "Vocal coach reacts to ..." You will get more views and subscribers as many ohter vocal coaches or musicians did.
Have you heard of Aldous Harding? She's a folk singer songwriter from New Zealand. I haven't seen her in that meany reaction videos. If you don't know who she is. Aldous is a very unique artist and her most popular song right now is "The Barrel" off her 3rd studio album "Designer" released in 2019 by 4AD. Aldous Harding's other albums are fantastic as well. Both her music videos and her live performance are wonderfully/beautifully quirky.

Personally, I don't think the modifiers like 'Korean Mariah Carey' and 'Korean Whitney Houston' are very good. Of course, it means she's great enough to be compared to the two legends, but I feel like those names hide her name.. Sohyang is Sohyang

literal translation of song title is 'one breath' but 'a sigh' would be better ...someone's sigh has many meanings, loneliness, longing....
Do you have the story behind masked singers? Is this a regular show? I assume this is like a manga look....but for an older American like me it looks like Little Orphan Annie as well. Creepy as hell. Thanks for this terrific analysis of her work. (as an aside, 27 seems to be one of those dangerous years....many artists in my memory went at that age)
King of Masked Singer is indeed a regular show in South Korea where numerous artists come on stage/TV to showcase their talent without being judged for their age, sex, name, popularity (if their voice is not singular enough to be guessed right away!) It airs every sunday on MBC and has been running since 2015.
The format works for 2 episodes (2 weeks).
On the first week, 4 pair of artists will sing a duet together of the same song. For each duet, one contestant will be eliminated by instant voting of the audience and celebrities present at that time.
Then for the second week/episode, we have 4 still running contestants. Each will be up against another for a duel but they will not sing a duet this time but each will get a solo song. For each duel the one getting the most votes will go to the next round. The last 2 remaining again will sing a solo song and the winner gets to be challenger for next title of king.
Then the final round happens. Challenger and previous king will be singing a song each and then depending on the results we get a new king or not.

'감정'이에요. 노래 시작 전에는 원곡 가수가 이하이이고, 작곡자는 종현이라는 사실을 알려주네요. 27살에 안타깝게 세상을 등진 이야기도 같이요. 이모션을 들으셨다시피 이 노래를 너무나도 감정적으로 잘 처리해서 불렀다고 이야기해줍니다. 늘 그랬듯이 훌륭한 무대를 보여주었다면서요. 그리고 분석을 합니다. 공기 섞인 소리, 천사같은 목소리, 목소리 컨트롤 등등 길게 이야기 하는데, 끝까지 보진 않아서 뭐라고 끝맺었는지는 모르겠습니다. 대충 그런 식으로 하나하나 분석해 나갑니다.
