So many good vehicles were killed by Cash 4 Clunkers. When I lived in a western US mountain town in the mid-2010s, decent 4-wheel drive vehicles like this were hard to find for a decent price. I blame C4C for much of the scarcity.

Speaking of Trucks, “Carolina Squat” sounds like some Scatological act that would happen to senatorial page boys in Lindsey Graham’s hotel room.

Eddie Bauers were supposed to come with matching Eddie Bauer luggage sets. I've heard that many of these were conveniently forgotten about at sales time, leading to many dealership employees getting rather nice luggage sets and luggage set giveaways at employee Christmas parties 😂

Purchased a new '96 XLT AWD 5.0L ... kept through 2017 and now my nephew has it. Toyota level reliability with literally the only failure over the years being the water pump. Never a problem with transmission (4R70W), the 302, or the all mechanical full time AWD Borg Warner 4404 transfer case

All the CUV/SUV are akin to comfort height toilets for the older vehicle buying public, Bill! They've had their knees and hips replaced after all. LOL

This is basically the cleanest 90’s Explorer I’ve seen in like a decade 😳

Best car review I've seen in my 53 years! My Warden (Wife) hit the floor laughing her a$$ off at the Women driving SUV part because I have been saying for over 20 years that WOMEN has KILLED SUV'S by turning them into "Grocery Getters and Soccer Mommy Vans. Thank You So Much! I FINALLY can say, I TOLD YOU SO! 🤣

This brings back memories! I owned a 97 with the venerable 5.0 and it was awesome. Bought it in rough shape and fixed it up and got it running real nice. As time went on, it got to where a lot of things were not working, but it was a beater anyway and I always enjoyed taking it on trips to the store or just from point a to b as long as I didn’t need AC.

This brought back memories of the Sport-Trac you did a few years ago - still one of my favorite videos haha. The one where the alarm kept going off and you were yelling "I HAVE THE KEY - I HAVE THE DAMN TITLE!!" hahaha. Love these old Explorers, thanks for another great video Bill.

I had a ‘96 once. Really loved those seats! That round piece in the front is actually adjustable by sliding it in and out. Also has the power inflatable lumbar and even the side bolsters can be inflated.

Great video. Hard to believe they are 27 years old. The flush mounted glass was a very classy design Ford marketed when they first came out.

My father in law had this year/engine combo but 2WD. At almost 600,000 miles(😮) the timing components disintegrated and he donated it to charity.

This was a great throw back, being a Ford tech during those late 90s and early 2000 years. The engine in this was a 4.0L push rod which was a much more reliable engine than the 4.0L SOHC which always had timing chain problems. (To fix the right side chain the motor had to be pulled). I also replaced hundreds of FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRES AS PER THE RECALL. They were great SUVs when new, but they did not last the long haul. However I made alot of money repairing them. Please come back soon Bill, your reviews are 2nd to none.

I overlooked these for decades, and never liked the "friendly" bubble round look these had in that era; but picked up a 98 Sport Explorer a couple years ago. It's a fun good looking vehicle and that look really has grown on me. I hate the abominations we see in the modern era.
