Not hate or even criticism, just an attempt at an observation: I think a lot of fashion/beauty/lifestyle youtubers are facing what in business is called "conflict of interests". They are essentially making money from sponsorships which mostly come from big businesses (fast fashion, make up etc) by promoting them one way or another. At the same time they face pressure from their audiences that want them to be more "independent" and support their views on environment, consumerism, ethics etc. Can't really see what way out of this youtubers can find given that their business model doesn't really allow them to be completely independent.
I agree, I think thats what a lot of people are failing to understand- the money she literally uses to provide for her family relies largely on fashion and in particular fast fashion with things like brand deals and affiliate links. A video itself doesn't earn much alone. If she wore more sustainable branded clothing it would inevitably be pricier and a lot of her fans are also students or working class etc and would prefer not to spend a lot on one item. Also I dont think people get that it would mean rebranding significantly for her to be completely sustainable because inevitably people would stop viewing if she only purchased super expensive clothes. and if she only did thrifting you can no longer purchase that exact item. Also her dress sense is trendy so for her to just buy long term basics wouldn't be representative of her as we know anymore. a significant portion of the audience would stop viewing the hauls and potentially other fashion related videos. its a conundrum because of course ethical shopping is a genuine issue but its easier for me to do it when im only pleasing myself with the way I look not a whole audience
I watch some other beauty/fashion youtubers and they don’t seem to shop on their channel as much as she does. Maybe they are shopping even more and just not showing us (but I think they are being wiser by doing that). The amount of shopping that she does in videos really portrays her a someone who MUST have every new trend and can’t stop buying “investment pieces.” There must be other types of videos she can do that dont give off this vibe of vapid spending
I think the best thing for bloggers is to stop band-wagoning .. sustainable fashion isn't a trend that they can jump on and off .. maybe they should stick to what they know and clearly can't stop ..they send contradictory messages and then get all defensive and passive aggressive online
I have an idea! Maybe you could do more thrift/vintage hauls and styling videos? It’s a great alternative to fast fashion, is lot more sustainable and unique in terms of style! I’m personally addicted to thrift videos lol PS Your hair is fab!
Obviously just me but id most likely stop watching hauls if they were thrifted. I personally enjoy knowing I could purchase that exact item and I live nowhere near any decent charity shops as im in a relatively lower class town in England- its only really rich towns or bigger cities that have decent thrift items. Its difficult to keep your audience because a lot like clothing that is well priced and accessible because they're students or not very well off. I think shopping at more sustainable shops is also an alternative but again they tend to be far pricier individual items and so she would become less relatable to a large demographic because most people would rather have options than own one expensive t shirt. At the end of the day she is paid in large because she presents the latest trends at a relatively attainable price- this involves by nature buying a lot of clothes so that audience members can see the different options and buy for themselves what she wears. Thrifting to be included is nice but she probably gets a lot of money from affiliate links which wouldn't really be possible in that case and others gain money from brand deals with fashion lines which involves being given clothing- its just a conundrum because im sure she sees the ethical dilemma but its also a large aspect of what her fans want and at the end of the day what feeds her family. I guess its not as easy as you or me doing it because she has to please a majority of people too- charity shops have like the ugliest clothes for bigger sizes too in my experience. Must be hard to find a balance tbh! I get the struggle
I absolutely cannot believe all of the judgmental comments on here that start or end with “not judging.” You all are absolutely judging. Sam’s content is and always has been mostly fashion. The goal of her sustainable fashion videos were not to become 100% sustainable. She never said that. I don’t know why everyone is acting like that was some sort of transformation for her into a sustainable fashion blogger. I loved loved loved those videos, however that was not the point. And until you are 100% sustainable as well your comments are not needed. Sam, keep putting out the fantastic content that I’ve watched ever since the start. People really do not realize they are commenting about a real person that’s just trying to put out interesting content for their viewers. You have been my fashion inspiration since day one, keep doing you!
I'd love to see a video of you going through all the clothes you own and restyling pieces you haven't worn in a while/forgot about! Sometimes the most fun place to shop is your closet and you may fall back in love with some old pieces!

I disagree. Firstly, how can you guarantee it? I’ve seen people around me really starting to be environmentally cautious, so people are really starting to get it imo. And lastly, Sammi has a big audience and has spoken numerous times about sustainable fashion recently, but then goes on to do a topshop haul. I’m not saying she should quit fast fashion all together in such a short time, but at least she should stand behind her words. It’s a bit hypocritical I think. While I appreciate you’ll be interested in looking into new trends/fashions, a big way to be sustainable is to not dress according to trends. Maybe it would be an idea to do fittingroom vlogs, so show your public what is on trend without the necessity to buy the items for yourself. that way you would still promote these fashion brands and get paid by them but you would make a step towards sustainability? also what you could do is show the items in the shops and then try and find a cheaper or more sustainable look a like on fleemarkets or second hand shops. That way both groups of your followers would meet more in the middle. love your hairstyle btw! love

Great video!! I see a lot of bad comments here. I think the video shows pieces that are going to last in Sam's wardrobe for a long time. Sustainability in fashion is a process that takes years to master. So chill people and get off your moral high horses. Sammy has been working with fast fashion companies for years and if you've been subscribed to her channel is because you at some point had interest in her lifestyle and fashion views or still do. So what is the shock here. She has amazing style and the fact that she is considering sustainable fashion is a great step towards a good change.

I just bought Jeffrey Campbell sneakers similar to those, and I LOVE them! it is a trendy piece, but that doesn't mean they can't be worn past the "trend". Also LOVE everything you purchased, and fully feel the "new year, new me" shopping habits (sustainability is important, but sometimes you need to refresh for the year and get inspired) !!!

you know what I dont get? With the amount your shopping all the time you must have soooooooo many clothes, why not just rediscover these things? you keep buying "great staples" but they never really become staples when you only reach for them once? there must be endless opportunitys in your clostet to get creative, with pieces that you swore you loved so much you just had to buy them. instead you choose a topshop haul, present the same sweater every youtuber did, and call it a way to get creative with your own style

This video makes me feel how much I love fashion, just by seeing you fall in love with these pieces. And yes you did get a lot of pieces, but it is more sustainable to buy pieces that you absolutely love, than to buy pieces that you think are just ok. When you connect with your pieces, get attached to them, you will wear them often and longer. I went trough the same phase, where I wanted to be sustainable and fell out of fashion a little bit. But now I am back, I am more aware and I value the pieces that I have and buy even more! One more thing I have become very aware of is materials. Materials can tell you a lot about the quality and longevity of an item. I would love it if you would mention the materials of the pieces in your hauls as well, but this is ofcourse just a suggestion and I love you and your channel and your fashion-sense anyway! Great video!! I see a lot of bad comments here. I think the video shows pieces that are going to last in Sam's wardrobe for a long time. Sustainability in fashion is a process that takes years to master. So chill people and get off your moral high horses. Sammy has been working with fast fashion companies for years and if you've been subscribed to her channel is because you at some point had interest in her lifestyle and fashion views or still do. So what is the shock here. She has amazing style and the fact that she is considering sustainable fashion is a great step towards a good change.
they wont tho, it's the over-shopping thats a big part of the problem. we've been seeing new in "staple pieces" every week, theres only so many "staples" a person needs. also, I personally cant remember seeing her wear the Same thing a few times, just saying. and as to why theres such a fuss about it now: bc she was talking about wanting to be more sustainable and acknowledging her responsibility as an influencer, but this video is just basically such a step back that I think a lot of followers are disappointed, at least I am

I just bought Jeffrey Campbell sneakers similar to those, and I LOVE them! it is a trendy piece, but that doesn't mean they can't be worn past the "trend". Also LOVE everything you purchased, and fully feel the "new year, new me" shopping habits (sustainability is important, but sometimes you need to refresh for the year and get inspired) !!!

We can’t all be perfect. You do a lot of fantastic things to raise awareness of issues. I absolutely loved this video, I actually find it helps me to make more sensible purchases instead of buying things I actually realise I don’t really like in a few weeks. you know what I dont get? With the amount your shopping all the time you must have soooooooo many clothes, why not just rediscover these things? you keep buying "great staples" but they never really become staples when you only reach for them once? there must be endless opportunitys in your clostet to get creative, with pieces that you swore you loved so much you just had to buy them. instead you choose a topshop haul, present the same sweater every youtuber did, and call it a way to get creative with your own style
"Shop your closet" is a great YT format. ..as is 'copy the styling of an Instagram look' with your existing clothes

This video makes me feel how much I love fashion, just by seeing you fall in love with these pieces. And yes you did get a lot of pieces, but it is more sustainable to buy pieces that you absolutely love, than to buy pieces that you think are just ok. When you connect with your pieces, get attached to them, you will wear them often and longer. I went trough the same phase, where I wanted to be sustainable and fell out of fashion a little bit. But now I am back, I am more aware and I value the pieces that I have and buy even more!
One more thing I have become very aware of is materials. Materials can tell you a lot about the quality and longevity of an item. I would love it if you would mention the materials of the pieces in your hauls as well, but this is ofcourse just a suggestion and I love you and your channel and your fashion-sense anyway!

in regards to all the sustainable fashion comments, yes i can see where there coming from but Sammi don't worry about them. I can see that for you being 100% sustainable isn't sustainable for YOU. you're a fashion blogger, it's your job and i get that you can't really do your job properly if you're only buying a few pieces a month or whatever because sustainable clothes are more expensive.
