Woodturning : An Innovative Project with wood chips and resin

- An interesting project with wood chips and epoxy resin.
To make this piece I use sipo for the segmented wood part and ash for the wood chips.
The finish is provided by enriched abrasive paste and carnauba wax.

The bowl looks like you used chips of purple wood. Although that would have been pretty, nothing beats resin ribbons! Found myself chuckling as you were working as they flew around. For some reason, despite the entire piece being a show piece anyone would love to display, I was really attracted to the lip of the bowl. Was that fluting I noticed? You make me look forward to Fridays. Thanks, Morgan, for letting us into your inner sanctum.

This reminds me of tin lanterns that are made by cutting vertically around the cylinder and then compressing it so that it bulges in the center creating a spherical shape. What an incredible way to create a similar structure using wood and resin! This bowl is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent.

I made the molds myself.
When cutting small, thin pieces of wood in a table saw, you can easily create a makeshift zero-clearance throat plate. Here's how: lower the blade all the way into the saw. Carefully apply a long strip of 2" wide painter's tape over the throat plate opening. Start the saw and raise the running blade through the tape to the cutting height you need. You're ready to go. This prevents small pieces from falling into the saw as you work.
