I Terribly Misjudged This Tripod! - Peak Design Travel Tripod Review

- For a long long time, I sincerely thought this tripod was not worth the hype. And by hype, I mean HYPE! but then over the last two years we've seen so many brands follow the form factor of the Peak Design Travel Tripod which lead me to think that there must be more than meets the eye here. So hear me out on this as I bite my tongue for a bit for this review.

Clip locks are actually faster/easier to operate. It only slow because you're doing it how you would operate twist locks. Spread one of the legs a little and you can open 5 clips in one motion. After unclipped and extended, while 3 legs are still close together, you can close 3 clips of the same heigth from each leg with one motion by turning the tripod with the other hand. Check PD's video for demonstration.

This is the tripod that got me to nearly always bring a tripod with me. It stays in the side pocket of my camera backpack all the time, unless I really want to go lightweight.

I’ve got the Carbon Fiber and i love it. The only issue for me is the need for a tool to remove the plate. It should be tooless wich is totally possible. One time i was without my tripod, but i always leave the plate attached to the camera. Then i needed to use a friends tripod and i couldnt because i wasnt able to remove the plate from my camera and attach the other one.
I also think its very expensive..
But is so well designed that i gave it a try. And im loving it so far

Ulanzi - is half the price of this and better .... I do think this travel tripod is good. Don't get me wrong but it's price is absurd when the Ulanzi is half the price
I haven’t gotten to try that but it does look good. I’m also testing smallrig’s version and its promising
I have read a lot of complaints about them. Seems like they have quality control issues.
having bought the PD aluminum tripod and the Ulanzi Zero Y tripod, I can safely say the PD tripod is much better. you can feel how much worse the build quality is on the Ulanzi and worst of all, their customer service is absolutely horrible. there are valid grievances with the PD tripod but at least it feels quality, works well, and is backed by excellent customer service.
What this video missed, as well as the hundreds of others just like it, is the real downfall of this tripod is the price. This is blatant gouging the customer. Essentially making people pay an absorbent amount of money so that a bunch of CZcamsrs and their families all get the tripod for free. Paid Hype. Is it a nice piece of equipment? Sure. But certainly not worth that much money, unless you have unlimited income and no real responsibilities in life. PD's target customer I guess. They have jumped on the band wagon of making less widgets (meaning less materials and less labor) and then charging more for it so that their profit margin increases.
Well, the main reason for the price point might be, that this tripod has been designed and engineered in the US and not just copied in China. Take any other high quality tripod like Gitzo or RRS and you will notice that it is not much cheaper (rather the opposite).
