1st Reading - Acts 14:19-23
2nd Reading - 1st Thessalonians 1:1-7
Topic : Living for Christ.
- The readings are more of the life of apostles.
- Living for Christ in times of persecution, suffering, temptations and hard times.
- They came together for prayers and fasting as they sent one another for a mission.
- Each was given a specific mission and a ministry.
- Whatever we purpose to do, we need to seek the will of God and to be with us.
- As Paul and Barnabas preached, miracles were performed because God was with them.
- The prophets of gods thought these men were God, but Paul had to convince them that they're mare men but doing things in the name of Jesus Christ.
- This teaches us that we should not take the glory of God.
- People later later turned against Paul and Barnabas and we're stoned.
- Those who were praising them to the extent of sacrificing for them turned against them.
- people are not to be trusted.
- We should not preach to please people .
- Just as Jesus was praised in triumph entry to Jerusalem, the following few days the same people said he be crucified.
What we need to live for God.
1. We need to accept the love of God. - John 3:16.
2. We acknowledge we are sinners. We have all fallen short of glory of God. We are all sinners by birth.
3. We need to get saved. We believe in our hearts and confess with our mouth. (Refer to Sunday sermon)
4. We have to read and mediate the word of God. Form bible study groups, attending fellowship, church etc they help us to understand the word of God better.
5. Living the word of God. Doing what the word has directed you.
6. Sharing the word of God - share with others the experience. The great commission.
7. We need to be prayerful. Pray without ceasing. Seeking Strength, God's will etc. We need family alter, personal alter, prayer groups etc.
Benefits of living for Christ
1. We get strength to overcome.
2. We are able to bear fruits in Gal 5:22- 23
3. God will make to prosper in his kingdom and also in things of the world.
4. We will have peace beyond human understanding.
It's not easy to live for God but God himself assures us his victory.
We need to make and personal decision to live for Christ.
It's our prayer that God may empower us to live for him.
