    THANK YOU!!!!! Without this video, I could not have done what I just did: copy and sew two shirts for my pastor. Based on my calculations, he probably would have needed a 6X, and I could not find a pattern in that size anywhere!! But with the help of your amazing video tutorials, I did it! And the shirts turned out awesome, if I do say so myself. I don't know why you've not posted in so long, but I really hope that you never take these tutorials down. YOU ROCK!!!!

    Great Video. I want to thank you for including your mistakes and discussing them. It greatly increases the value of this content. When you watch a "Perfect Make" and try to duplicate it yourself and fall all over yourself making mistakes it's really crushing. It also shows that most mistakes are rectifiable. Now to make myself a shirt.. *Fingers Crossed*

      Im trying to find the video on how you did the sleeve on this shirt...you set it in without the side seam completed, and then you flat felled the side seam. Do you have a video on this aspect? And have you ever flat felled the set in sleeve? Men’s shirts in ready to wear often have it but I have no idea how. 8m still trying to master a basic set in sleeve!

      @@patricecunningham I only have a video on a regular inset sleeve just showing an easy way to ease the fabric. To do a sleeve like you're asking, it can get tricky with a long or tight sleeve to do the final step for the flat felled seam.

    "The Burrito Method" was titled that by Margaret Islander from Islander Sewing Systems. She was the first to produce videos in the 90s on industrial garment construction methods using a home sewing machine.
    Also, your machine thumping is because you have the wrong size needle in. Try a smaller size needle. I hope that helps.

I'm getting better at taking seams out than putting them in haha. Without a serger, how do you top stitch pants? I can get all but the inside leg.

    • @TheAwlNighter1

      I usually over order because I prefer to have extra yardage. If I'm unsure how much I'll need I will lay out my pattern pieces and measure the yardage before purchasing the fabric. If I don't know how wide the fabric will be, I'll measure what it is with a width of 42" and at 60" since that's the typical range I purchase.

      Yes, but test buttonholes on a scrap fabric first ti be sure your fabric is thick enough. Using interfacing will make your shirt nicer quality, though (stiffer collar, better collar stand, buttonholes more stable). • @TheAwlNighter1
      @TheAwlNighter1 Před rokem

      You will need to grade it up 3 sizes. The easiest way I can think to do this is to look at a commercial pattern and measure the difference between those sizes. It's not so simple as just adding width. You will need to add around the entire pattern including length typically.

    • @TheAwlNighter1
      @TheAwlNighter1 Před rokem

      @@bethmitchell6981 hmm looks like alot of commercial patterns stop at a 52" Chest. You can use the grade between the 2 largest sizes you can find and multiply that by the number of sizes you need to go up. It might not be perfect but it will be close. The other option is to measure a shirt that fits well and add the difference to your pattern. It's tricky so I would make a test muslin to be sure of fit.

    • @TheAwlNighter1
      @TheAwlNighter1 Před rokem

      Alternatively, look at the pattern and see what the suggested body measurements are and add however much extra you need. This should get your pattern to fit around but you may need additional in length and across shoulder, etc. Sorry there's not a quick and simple fix for your problem.
