    As someone who grew up in Dover i am always drawn to these videos. When I was young, and lived not far below the Castle it was free to go into the grounds and the Keep was 1 shilling and sixpence to go in, easily paid for with pocket money. The WW2 stuff wasn't developed for tourists then, and adventurous school children would sneak in to explore unofficially. There are new roads to the docks which cut through areas of the cliffs, which were free to go on and explore. I used to go down that zigzag path you can see on the cliff. You had to climb a rope down the last 10 feet or so, but the bay had a wreck and was great for rockpooling. I found a canon ball in one rock pool once. There were still bits of live ordnance lying about in those days. Most people just whizzed through the place to go on the ferries, so it is lovely its history is being feted a bit more. Even as a child I loved the history of the place.

    I've been to America some years ago and rented out an American car where the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car and so was all the gears of the gear stick. Driving on the wrong side of the road was absolutely strange plus your motorway service stations are tiny, which I couldn't believe it as they say that everything is big in America, our service stations are massive in the UK compared to America and we have a hell of a lot less motorists here in the UK compared to the United States. I loved some of the places that I visited especially one which was on my bucket list and that was Cape Canaveral. Since I was a small boy watching the moon landing in 1969 I was absolutely hooked on NASA and Space. I got to live out my boyhood dream in 2000 when I visited Cape Canaveral and went on all there tours also seeing the space station being built in there giant work shop was like being a child in a sweet shop, but the thing that blew me away was the Gemini Rocket, it is massive and absolutely beautiful and I did shed a tear as I was that 5 year old boy back in 1969. 💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️💂‍♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿💙💛🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

    Usually the car handbook is in the glove compartment of teh car, so you can look there for how to work things. Also dont get caught talking into phone or camera even if your passenger is holding it, brings a £3,000 fine wih it. Motorway driving, dont stay in middle lane unless roadsigns say. Left lane is driving lane, middle and outside are overtaking only. Again you can be stopped for this. Great videos.

      @@EaterOfBaconSandwiches Congratulations, you said nothing helpful. Rare as it is, you can be pulled over for not keeping left on a motorway, particularly if you are going noticeably more slowly than other traffic, so the advice above stands. Also, as you admitted, you can be done for 'due care and attention' if a police officer decides you were focused on a camera not the road, so again, the advice stands. What's the point of being pedantic when Achievable Bodies is offering helpful advice on how to drive within the UK traffic rules?

    Us Brits are used to driving 'on the wrong side of the road' as we drive so easily all over Europe and elsewhere. It is called 'The River Thames' and not 'The Thames River' ... It's 'SAINSBURY' not 'SANSBURY' ...

      @@anitaandaladventures5161 Thanks! Everywhere in Dover is cool apart from the town. I've taken my car by ferry over to France and Belgium many times for what we call 'The Booze Cruise' £20 per car return including occupants. ... Wine and beer was so much cheaper in Calais as their taxes were low. A litre bottle of sparkling wine was £1 and a tray of half litre 24 cans of beer was £6. I used to bring back 500 cans of beer and 200 bottles of various wines every few months. It's not worth it now though as they raised their prices too much. Dover Castle is fabulous inside. It's interiors have been restored with the King's bedchamber, and other rooms, plus the vast tunnels below the castle.

      There are people that will give driving a rental car in the wrong side of the road and people that won't try. Good on them for trying.
      When I go to the US I'm always scraping the tyres on the curb at some point within the first mild or so - it's easy to forget there's do.much csr on the other side.
      As for checking out the functions of the rental car before you set off - yeah, everybody SHOULD do that but almost nobody does.

  • @thefiestaguy8831
    @thefiestaguy8831 Před 3 měsíci

    5:33.... KEEP LEFT!
    Otherwise you're lane hogging. It's no different to the appalling lane discipline in the USA. Most drivers can't stand lane hoggers and people who don't stay in the correct lane!

      On a dual carriageway, or motorway, you KEEP LEFT unless there's lane filtering (i.e signs above the lanes specifying which lanes you should be in for which destination or road). Otherwise it's "lane hogging" and is hated by almost all drivers in the UK. @@anitaandaladventures5161
