4498/60007 Sir Nigel Gresley With Coaches ! Severn Valley Railway Test Run

  • With light engine tests completed and all current minor issues sorted, Sir Nigel Gresley is seen on its first loaded test run on the Severn Valley Railway from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster and return. The ex Caledonian sleeper coaches are being used to test the Air Braking system on the A4 and obviously to see how the A4 performs under load. Scenes are taken at Bewdley, Hampton Loade and Eardington Bank. I hope you enjoy the video.

    6 minutes of pure joy and what a delight to see SNG with a rack of coaches. Beautiful and the sound of that whistle again. I lost years of my life just hearing that. Thank you for the video seems very inadequate.

      I lived at Normanton, handy for Doncaster and York. Weekends were full of these beauties.
      It wasn't until we moved to Winchester that I could buy a platform ticket to sit for the aftenoon and take in the drivers pushing the throttle fully open before Eastleigh.

    Lovely video - an absolute pleasure to watch - and really love the British countryside. As a primary school student in the Mallee in Australia, used to hear the steam whistle way before the big steam engine went past school. We inevitably (despite contrary instructions from teacher) counted the wagons. Best I recall was about 60 small open wheat wagons. No idea what type of engines were used.

      @JintySteam1 Před 2 lety +1

      Well the Caledonian Sleeper has MK5 coaches now and there are very few HST's about. So I think the SVR might actually own those MK3's Air Brake testing could be a reason but MK3's also weight a little more.

    I love this black livery, even if the LNER lettering is said not be correct. It is correct because it is 'Sir Nigel Gresley's ' own preserved livery. If Hornby or Bachmann produce a model, I want one!

    Not keen on the wartime livery. It was applied for nighttime blackout running. My father was bombed travelling from Portsmouth Naval Depot to Scapa Flow. The L.N.E.R. blue pre-war is much more attractive, as are the post war blue and Brunswick Green!. We’re they perhaps recalling the Wren 00 gauge locomotives in their similarly drab wartime Black?.

  • @gazza2933
    @gazza2933 Před 2 lety

    Great video of a classic engine and a great engineer! (LNER forever).
    I can understand why train crews of regular services don't acknowledge enthusiasts, but I do think drivers and firemen should get into the spirit of things on these special occasions. 1:55
    A simple wave gentlemen/ladies.
    It's not difficult and costs nothing. 👍

    • @MarshSteamVideosTM
      @MarshSteamVideosTM  Před 2 lety

      I'd agree with you if this was public service. In reality the railway is closed and the locomotive is being put through its paces and I'd imagine the fireman and driver will have an eye on other things.

    Great Locomotive in action. I remember seeing SNG at Carnforth years ago when she was in Garter Blue. By the way, the present livery is correct apart from the letters should be NE not LNER for the wartime colour scheme!

  • @1987VCRProductions
    @1987VCRProductions Před 2 lety

    I know they plan on painting it in BR blue for its return to the main line but it would be nice if they kept it in wartime black for awhile, I think it looks nice. One livery I’d like to see is BR garter blue, a livery it briefly carried in the early BR days after the war.

    Sir Nigel Gresley has the same heavy test train as Britannia had. Why wasn't she tested with a full rake of Mk. 1 coaches? In my opinion, Mk. 1 coaches are lighter and easier for the A4 to handle, especially when puffing up Eardington Bank. Nice video in any case. Love the sound of an A4.😂🙃
