The 35% was only what the test subject used during the MRI. Which means he wasn't actively doing something. We do use 100% of our brains for certain tasks but sitting in a circular chamber for a while with nothing to do isn't one of them.

I was astounded to learn people think the falling penny would hurt or kill someone. I knew better when I was a toddler by simply observing objects fall when I threw them.
Just wanted to share my little bit of knowledge considering the first myth (or #10). So the reason only 35 % of the brain was activated was probably due to, as the lady said, the participant not doing anything. Lots of studies nowadays are interested in the resting-state brain to study functional connectivity, in other words, look at how different parts of the brain may activate in a certain pattern to show that different areas can create a network together. I believe we have found 7 resting-state networks right now. The most known one being the default mode network. However, had they done different cognitive tasks, it could have used other parts of the brain that weren't activated during the resting state. Every part of the brain is solicited for activities. It's simply that their "resting phase task" only used 35%. Of course, if someone reads this and realizes I've said a few wrong things, feel free to correct me :).
The 35% that lights up in the video just shows that those parts show significantly more activiation compared to a baseline measurement. This does not mean that the grey parts (65%) shows no activation, it just shows that the amount of activation in those parts is not significantly different to the baseline measurement. There is still activity in those parts, so technically 100% of the brain is still being used during the resting state measurement, it’s just a matter of difference in levels of activation.

For the first myth, we use almost 100% of our brains just not at the same time, you cannot have the parts of the brain that control sleep, and the ones for talking, moving, thinking, interpreting, etc. at the same time. The brain is made of many different structures that control different things, it is not a battery that you can take a certain amount of "brainpower" from.
You actually use 100% of the brain, just not at the same time. For example you use your creative part to tell a story or your logical part for solving a math problem. Using 100 of the brain at the same time is known as a seizure.
