I was very curious about this when it came out as a Kickstarter. What drew me too it was that it was a different design rather than the same old regular hammock being made over and over.
So I reached out to buy one but Derek the designer of the Haven offered me one to get my thoughts as he went through his growing pains of a new product. Well, I took him up on it and he told me he did not really expect a review or a video.

Funny, growing up camping in a tent I dreaded rain. Camping in my hammock I almost look forward to the rain. Almost. So peaceful and relaxing.
Truth!
yes, brother
Thanks for checking us out! It’s an honor 😊
Righto. Packed and off in an hour.
Your haven tent is the best way of sleeping ever! Never had a comfortable way of sleeping when backpacking before haven showed up
Åsmund Liene 🎉 thanks for making us a part of your adventures!
Diffianetly will check this out
When you are just surfing around CZcams and then you see a new Shug video. Perfect!
Whooooo Buddy)))))
Yard looks great Shug especially with the lighting, nice job. Thanks for introducing us to the Haven, definitely different. ✌🏼
I thankee for that.
Always good to see you Shug. Yard looks nice. I had to finally dye my beard since it made me look much older. I finally did a solo backpacking wilderness trip with one of my hammocks and mountain fly tarp this weekend. Packed in the ohm. Set up about 3 ft from a cliff. Wore the Shug hat for fun. ;) Long but fun trip. Thanks for the inspiration.
Whooooo Buddy))))....thankee for the support!
“When you’re in a tent you’re driving a car, and a hammock is a motorcycle”. Sooo true love that description.
Thanks. Just thought of that one today. Kinda applies.
Dawn2Dusk Adventuring This one hits me, as I ride a motorcycle year round in Phoenix while also hammocking
I'm definitely reusing it

Loving that rock garden....what a boulder you've got there! Cool hammock!
We have had the boulder for years. Just added everything around it. Thankee.
Good to see you Shut! Love the front yard looks great. I like the Haven, it gives Hammockers a different build to consider like the Amock, which I love. Enjoy the trip to the woods. Hear from you when you get back.
Thankee...I just got back from 2 nights with it in BWCA hiking. Slept 12 hours first night and 10 the next.
I like it. I always use a separate tarp also. Big D&D, endless configurations. Glad to see you again.
I like it too.
INTERESTING ! LOOKS COMFORTABLE & PLENTY OF OPTIONS ! SOMETHING NEW ! GLAD YOU'RE DOING GOOD SHUG & CAN'T WAIT FOR ANOTHER VIDEO OF YOUR ADVENTURE COMING UP OR GOING ON NOW ! Glad to see ya! Looking good. Yard as well...
Have fun in the BWCA
Thanks and thankee.
Whooo Buddy! Recently did a rewatch of all your videos during these Covid-19 times, and always enjoy new videos. The landscaping looks fantastic! Also, your take on the Haven has been long awaited in our household. Hope you enjoy your trip to the BWCA!
Off to the woods in an hour. Ready to give it a go in solitude.....
The front yard is amazing! I would love to see more of it.
Thankee. Maybe I'll do a video tour.

Beautiful shug! Always love ur vids. You got me into hammocking a while back! Its good to see you again.
Whooooo Buddy))))) and thanks.
Always a good time when shug posts a video!
I thankee for the support.
Haha! I have my hammocking dialed in right where I like it. This looks like it would have possibilities if they had caught me five years ago. Not now. I look forward to seeing your video on the Boundary Waters trip. Stay safe, Shug! Whooooo buddy!
Whooooo Buddy))))
Great review Shug! Love to see new ideas hit the market. Its good for us "old school" hangers to think about possibly entertaining the idea of maybe thinking about considering the notion of using a new sleep system in the back woods. Its food for thought, and glad you brought it to the table! 👍😁
I had fun getting to play with something different.
@@shugemery you could have some extra straps and tie the tarp higher if you prefer, right?
@@chtomlin Thinking you mean near trees? Or on the hammock rig?Anything is possible with some effort I reckon.
@@shugemery I mean simply adding a ridgeline above your hammock for your preferred tarp height...as you did in another video, lol
Went to Sunset Beach, NC last week for a week with the family. On the way from Boone to the beach, picked up a Boston butt and cabbage at Food Lion. BBQed the pork and made slaw. Made up some of your NC Piedmont sauce. The family loved it! Stay safe Shug!
Goodness Gracious......good eatin' My family has stayed at Sunset. Love it there. Nice and quiet.
Great to see you back Shug! Ya had me worried! Interesting looking piece of kit. Looking forward to seeing more!
I take a break if I have nothing to report. Then some folks are glad to see my back. Thankee.
I like that this is something different and can see some pros to using this. The easy ground pitch option is pretty nice for those questionable areas. Thanks for giving us a look at this.
Whooooo Buddy))))
Front yard looks great Shug!
many thanks.
Nice work Mr Emery sir, yard looks great, glad to see your shoulder seems to be all healed up. My girls still really enjoy the hammock you sent them. Haven't taken them out so far this year as in recovering from surgery for cancer. Hopefully I'll be healed up enough to take them out by end of August. Keep the great videos coming, have a fantastic summer sir.
Hope you are on the up and up and can get them out. Can't believe my daughter just turned 29!!!!
My oldest just turned 8, I've got a long road ahead lol. I lost a kidney so it's hard on my stomach to do just about anything. I'm on the mend, like I said I hope to take the girls out mud to late August. I'll send pics if I make it out
Thanks for the fun, enjoy your trip.
Thank you, I will
Love the video Shug! I appreciate that you don't spout out opinions without really testing the gear. Looking forward to the video after your trip! Have fun! Oh and your yard looks awesome! Good
I just got back from 2 nights with it in BWCA hiking. Slept 12 hours first night and 10 the next. So did good. It was fun to try something new. Thankee on the yard.
"You're kinda riding a motorcycle"... WhooBuddy!!! I should try one. Thanks, Shug!

Interesting tent/hammock! I would also use my own tarp and I'll be looking for your next video after your trip. Have Fun!
Off in an hour. Just on coffee right now. Raining but I am ready for some solitude and earthly beauty.
I like the beard Shug, you are the Uncle Sam of hammocking.
Yes. A tiny beard.
Unlike sammoking maybe
Ha Ha.....I was thinking Pappy Yokum.
Yeah man, great Job at the yard, looking really good! Go McLaren! Lando had some nice races in Austria, bit sad for Hungary but they are hot this year! Almost back to Glory 😊
My Warbonnet got shipped out, so I get my first XLC in a couple of days, I‘m so excited.
It was a satisfying project. They should do well this year. Watched all the races...F1 and F2, quali, practice. Fun for 3 days. It is my happy spot. McClaren is my team. Don't want Carlos to go to Ferrari. Rooting for
Williams too. They are doing a bit better.
Enjoy that Warbonnet.
As a you g person getting into hammocking I can say that I always go to your videos for advice since they never disappoint thanks shug
Great to hear that. Enjoy the hammock quest. Be patient as there is a learning curve with hammocks.
Binge watching ur vids, too funny. Just recently got into hammocks. Your advice has helped a bunch!

Looks great , In the Haven, miss behaven near your new paven ;) have a great trip Early !!!
I got a cravin'....Whooooo Buddy))))
God that is some heavy gear. It’s like going back thirty years in time. I will stay on the ground with my 18 oz tent. All I can say is you really have to love it. Sadly I am to old for lugging things like that around. Thanks for sharing, it does look comfortable and we’ll make. Take care
But comfy. I've toted it a couple times. Can go to ground with it. But heavy compared to 18 oz tent. Is your pad 2 pounds?
@@shugemery I think it’s about 12 oz. You are right it looks very comfortable. I can see it’s use if your going on short trips. Maybe need to take some short trips and just hang a bit. Who knows maybe I will give hanging a try. The other day I was camped on the Long Trail and I got up early to beat a big storm hail and all and woke up at 5 am and the man hanging in his hammock was already on the trail . I never heard him pack. Pretty impressive. I end up carrying more than I want often because I have a dog. She loves the trails. Take care
Looks purdy nice.
Thanks for the video

That is a very interesting design
Cannot wait until the video comes out
Landscaping looks fantastic

I do like that it is a very different concept. Thankee.
Hey shug hopefully you're doing well with everything is doing well ill miss seeing you at the fair this year just want you to remember everything you have done for us. Covered in snow now!
Haha car-motorcycle comparison was spot on Shug.

Shug, thanks for the video and have a good day. Stay secure in sector seven!
Whooooo Buddy))))
Great job on the landscaping .
Folks tried to hire me but I told them I cost $100,00.27 and a lifetime supply of cake.
I"m curious to see if that pad will keep you warm on a cool night. Great little "tent". Versatile if you have to go to ground. I like that flat lay as well. Looking forward to the camping video. Thanks Shug!
The pad is rated to below freezing. Just back from a 2 night trip in BWCA and it was a rainy chilly 51º first night. Slept 12 hours warmly.
@@shugemery Thanks! Good to know!
Right on Shug! Definitely different, but cool design. Enjoy field testing your new hang kit. Happy adventures brah! Aloha...
Having fun with something new.
It's always nice to see innovation and another option for stomach sleepers. They look interesting, if a bit swingy. I look forward to more reviews of it while I continue wrestling with my hammocks on the rare occasion I can sneak outside the wire. Things are FUBAR here in Sector 8. Repeat: FUBAR. Save yourself. 🤪 Happy hangin', Shug.
It does not swing long as most hammocks. I wish they would sway more!
The ground pitch aspect of it appeals to me for those trips where you may have too. At least is a different concept and some good thought put to it.
Really liked your car/motorcycle analogy for tent vs hammock camping.
Thankee.
Let us know Shug should be interesting to see how it goes. Brrrrreakfast from the Haven tent. Lol stay safe and healthy my friend
I just got back from 2 nights with it in BWCA hiking. Slept 12 hours first night and 10 the next.
I just pre-ordered the Haven XL. From the outside looking in: I would consider this a Bridge style Hammock with respect to the flat lay the hammock provided while loaded, achieved by the combination of the way the material is cut and the spreader bars. I think the closest comparable hammock was the Maverick which Derek Hansen review in 2014. The Haven seems to use the mattress to assist with the flat-lay, the Maverick used fiberglass “ribs” connected to a frame underneath the hammock. The tarp is pretty minimal for coverage, but I'm looking forward to trying this system in the winter to see how the tarp toggled down on the sides performs as a winter barrier/micro climate of sorts. Thanks for the great review Shug.
Hope it works out for ya'....
Can’t wait for your thoughts after you try it out. Subscribed!
I tried it and thoughts scatted through this video....czcams.com/video/b2iyg8efxnQ/video.html
That looks like a great car camping hammock.
I second that motion
That would work.
I like both in cold weather . The Haven tarp closes up like a hammock sock. My Onewind tarp above for a nice porch. A huge plus is you don't need to guy out the stock rainfly. Really convenient for hanging over rocks .
A plus is no underquilt ... A sheet of reflectix under the insulated pad is good to 0 degrees .
All good points!
I love love love it!!!! 💗 I need to pull my hammock out. Great timing too. It’s been raining ☺️
Get it out. A nap in rain is the best.
shugemery oh yeah it is. It’s been raining all night. So today is definitely the day. Love watching you.
Excited to hear how your trip goes, Shug!
Had real fun....czcams.com/video/b2iyg8efxnQ/video.html
shugemery Great watching you over the years; I’m a bit star struck you replied. Nice video; I need to make it up to BWCA. I’ve spent most of my time on the SHT - probably because, in part, my buddies got into hammocks and followed you. Take care, Shug. Cheers from Minneapolis.
Enjoy your trip Shug! Haven been out much meself.
Thankee and Whooooo Buddy))))
I’ve wanted to get a hammock but was scared of having to buy a tent as well for places that don’t have many trees, this solves all my problems I was looking to buy a bridge hammock anyways. I’m glad I stumbled upon HAVEN (not to mention they’re the only site that’s let me pre order, other sites you just have to keep checking back to see if things are in stock again)
Hoping it works out for you~~~
Just got back from the wood hood and catching up here. Will check out the trip video soon. That Haven job looks like the kind of deal you sleep 12 hours in zzzzzzzzzzzzzz woooo buddy!

Looks a little bit inspired by the Maverick Gear Hammock/Swag. Great idea👌. Thanks for the review.
Had to look that up. Never seen it. Kinda-sorta
Great review. I like that it lays fairly flat.
Very flat.
This is such a great review, thx

Interesting design, great review! You are right about it being like a motorcycle, crashed my hammock the other day and got tree burn!
Need to be wearing the leathers!!! Barky.
Was about to go sleeping but shug put a new video on ! Need to watch it !
Nice i saw it on Facebook and under it there were a lot of comments thats said it was a scam that the actual one wasn’t release yet glad to see tou purchase one ! Can’t wait to see your review after fiew night in it !
Until then i will stay with the xlc blackbird !
They did get scammed so if you see it for really really cheap...take heed.
Another great video shug! I ordered one and it’s coming the day before thanksgiving. For what I’m looking for, it checks all the boxes. Like you, I might use an additional tarp but I am surprised you didn’t point out the extreme weather uses the existing tarp could be used for. Even if just used to block wind or cold from one ... or both sides. (Think sock) Weight is not a concern for me, so I’ll keep existing tarp attached in cool or cold weather and may even bring additional tarp for higher more airy tarp. Thanks for keeping us informed AND entertained shug!
I'm not a sock fan as I get too much condensation. Plus I got into hammocks not to be all cooped in. Hope you enjoy yours.
I’ve never used a sock.... so I can’t say that I’m a fan. My point being that it is an option to use as a sock, or drape down on one side to completely shield from weather , or tie up at ridge and not use it.....and it’s INCLUDED. Or leave home.
Above , I meant shield from nasty weather on one side if u wished.
I've been waiting for this review Shug, thanks!
If you ever want to do a review on my Eureka Chrysalis just let me know, I'll run it over to you.
Thanks all the same. I prefer to do cottage industry gear really. Eureka is big box in my notebook.

At my age we say nifty or swift or keen...haaaaa
I have a Haven Hammock / Tent, its fantastic, the set up and take down is very simple and quick, I get a great nights sleep in it and its so stable I can get dressed in there. Durability is the key quality of this set up, everything is made with longevity in mind, if your serious about staying a number of nights in the woods then I think its the best shelter on the market. Shug has done a great review, he's obviously a seasoned wilderness / hammocks guy, don't believe the other CZcamsrs out there who mislead on how good this set up really is with their own personal ' design solutions'.
Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Great right to the point review.
Thankee
Sure weights like a tent. Good review. A good car camp setup most likely...
True. Not the lightest. But versatile.
Long time no see....glad to see you're still doing it Shug.

Good to see you haven't perished in all themadness Shug. Interesting tentmok. looking forward to some of your input on it after some extended testing. Im envious of your location cause you can test stuff at home, the trees i have in my yard are like 20-30t aoart and thats just not ideal for hanging a durn hammock.
You need a hammock stand!....Turtle dog stand.....czcams.com/users/results?search_query=turtle+dog+stand
@@shugemery i will look into them, thanks Shug very much appreciated .
Great to see you back! Missed ya. The quality seems real nice but with the tarp in place, it appeared to similar to a coffin. Not sure if it would be too good for people with slight claustrophobia. Interested in your field test of it. Thanks Shug!
It will appeal to some and not to others. I never like being in a hammock sock as I like to be open.
Great review
Thankee.
At 6:34, I really appreciate that you show the comparison between different tarps
Folks gotta see......
Ol Billy Goat Shug is back at it again!
I now scrub my pots with my chin.
As I’m getting older, I’m less interested in weight and more in comfort. Agree about tarp, I want space. The tent configuration might be useful in Winter to keep heat in, wind out.
Yessir.
First off.beautiful landscaping. Now that's out of the way.you should compare it with the cheap knock off version on Amazon. That would be neat.i do like that thing though. Thanks Shug ...
Nice job on your yard Shug! Should have made a video about it;>)
Working too hard to film. Just made it up as I went as in all things.
seems like a good option / concept for a hike like PCT or CDT. hammock when you have trees, tent when you don't.
That is its strength. A bit heavy but no more than some other sleep systems.
I just got back from a 2 night trip with it in BWCA. I slept 12 hours in it the first night. Was fun.
Thank you for this video. It’s one of the best out there regarding this haven tent/hammock. - you got a new sub from me!
If possible a breakdown of the different weights of the various parts from the - hammock body/ rainfly / bug net / spreader bars / sleeping pad / stakes ? / suspension system (rope for ridge line, caribeaners, treepstraps ) and anything else I’m forgetting
Hahaha sorry! I was in the middle of the video when I started typing this comment 😂 you read my mind!!! Thank you!!
I did use the Haven on this trip.
Switched out many pieces to lighten it up. You may find those weights on the Haven website.
I doubt I will get back to weighing all those various bits as I focused more on over-all weight.
Great video Shug! 🙌🏻👌🏻 Looking forward to the follow up! Also; a comparison between the amok draumr and the haven would be cool! I have just started hammocking and have learned alot from you! Thanks!
They are two very different hammocks. One is a 90% the Amok. Amok goes into recline chair mode as well. ...czcams.com/video/IWdatsAnu7Q/video.html
Though they are both dependent on pads for structure.
Haven is easier to get in and out of and ground pitch.
shugemery Thanks!
I got to test the Amok 3.0 recently and slept the longest I ever have when camping! 😃👍🏻
One thing I found a bit anoying was the balance.. I twist and turn quite a bit when I sleep and found that I had to move up quite a few times.
This seems like it would be a non-issue with the haven tent? I think I will get the haven tent.
my first thought was... how nice those spreader bars are !! vs. the hammock pinching ones body
A bit more to carry but this design needs them. Thank you and Whooooo Buddy))))
Now this is a system I'm really interested in.
Righto.
Ammazing..👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching and Whooooooo Buddy)))))
