Enough of Ryan's bashing Rocket league as a childish game. I am almost 70 years old and I enjoy Rocket League immensely, both alone and with kids and grand kids. I just feel I can keep getting better indefinitely. Much better than shooting games, which is all about killing.

It doesn't make the game any less childish. Being 70 years old has no effect on the facts.

Tuxedo having an ARM laptop sounds really cool. One thing I was worrying about however is on the topic of lasting hardware support. On Android, building a kernel that supports the SOC is basically building a kernel around a BLOB which is oftentimes not only closed source but also only available to the manufactures. Not only does this impact the freedom of your system negatively but it also means that after support for the SOC is discontinued the smartphone basically needs a custom ROM that is hacked together or it is a brick with a lot of known security issues. This happens after roughly two years for many Android devices and the reason why my Fairphone has an IOT SOC so it will be supported for longer.
Also in the beginning I was wondering why you were talking about socks now all of the sudden.

I'm kind of surprised no one mentioned the fact that this vrius removal tool says in its terms that it's going to send all your file information to Kaspersky's servers for analysis. When I read that after downloading it I decided not to run it on my machine.

I feel like much of Linux's lack of malware at the consumer level is adjacent to its lack of popularity. That other reason being the sheer fragmentation of the desktop scene. Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch, system libraries changing with point-updates...it's probably a bit of a task to create truly universal code, especially with the trickery that malware often has to resort to.

I have a new M1 macbook from work, and I completely agree that the hardware is good (price probably is too) and the battery life is fantastic. Compared to my old, non-arm macbook, it doesn't get anywhere near as hot. If you were in any meeting, you fans were on high with that old macbook.
HOWEVER... in the business world, macs have wasted way more time than they will ever save for me. It is still not an option for business, and I'd get off of it in a heartbeat and onto an HP that's half the price and be happier. That's a pretty strong statement. If it's your personal laptop, go for mac, that's completely reasonable. It just makes my work life much worse and they present it like it's an amazing work benefit. I never want to run terraform on arm again....

ESET had antivirus for Linux at some time ago. Dr. Web have antivirus for Linux and it works. Kaspersky is nice addition, but not needed now. Time will tell, but eventually even for Linux ecosystem antiviruses might become needed and it's better if AV programs start to grow now to be ready for that future.

If it comes to openness, surely Risc V would be the way to go then, not arm. I don't like header pins though so I'd rather get a x86 mini pc any day rather than an overpriced pi. About why laptop manufacturers are still on 1080p... well at 14" I think that's enough. What kind of DPI do you need. Now if it's a larger monitor like 17"+ you might have a case. That said, it would be nice if they had the option of both resolutions, so people who don't want to waste money can buy the 1080p version, and people who like to pixel peep can spend more.

I think with a mass migration of ex-Win 10 users migrate over to Linux it will be good to increase the Linux population but then it will bring unfortunately the malware problems Windows suffered. I think it is positive to see more anti-virus software for Linux cause honestly I sometimes worry about it too.
I use ClankTK to check software out but wonder if there is better free anti-virus/malware scanners.
In the video about RISC vs CISC; I think in ARM cpus are more power efficient, but what about binary executables filesize? Since RISC has simple opcodes you need a group of them to make a more complex opcode thus increase the binary size. In the 1990s I got sort of turned off when I read about the PowerPC RISC Cpu.

Windows UAC is security theater because you can give something admin power simply with a click of “Ok” and boom infected even if you aren’t admin. UAC is built in a way that makes users just click yes blindly without reading what they are doing, this makes it so a user account not being admin is a facade - Michael
