It’s nice to hear you make the point that after all we are “imposing our will” on the wood. Yes, in fact as is always pointed out we take wood that has fallen or wood from trees that have been blown down etc. That’s fine and I do it too BUT…as we are making such beautiful and functional/useful things and shaping them as our skills make possible I think any wood would be Proud to be made into the things we can make and therefore I would not apologize for cutting a perfectly healthy branch from a tree to accomplish such and end. Yes, we are the “masters” over the wood and therefore we should get good enough to take responsibility for what we make of a piece of it. Just like we are masters of the soil when we garden and therefore we should honor it by growing plants in cooperation and synergistically with nature.
Think he says Svante Djärv standard spoon knife. I’ve tried one, think the geometry isn’t as good as it could be. I have Dave budd and nick westermann tools also a sean helman moded mora which I much prefer.
Yes, he says Svante Djärv standard spoonknife. They make many different shapes and sizes, so I would go have a look. Never owned one, but I only hear good things about their tools in general.
I have enjoyed these videos many times over the years but here I feel compelled to say, I couldn't see what he was doing at all. Didn't even clearly show the end product... It was like watching a guy on the other end of a room do "something" with his hands while mostly crouched over it... 26 minutes and pretty frustrating actually.
i get what you are saying but you can see the general idea and how it takes shape through the steps. i think maybe if you use your imagination adn experment a little you should be ok.

Svante Djarv - mini Spoon Knife
..But you can't use those for little scoops like these@@chavassasin762.. One does need a Svante standard for these.
