Hendry has basically been retired for ten years. Also I don't recall Higgins or O Sullivan ever develop yips - which literally psychologicaly destroys a player's confidence in every which way possible - because your body won't do what your brain wants you to do - and vice-versa. It happens to golfers too. The reality is, it's utterly remarkable how long he stayed in the top 16 like that.

The scary thing is that there are 20 Chinese players in their early 20's to one British player. They will soon dominate the sport. I am Canadian and I watched several great Canadian players in the 70's and 80's play in England. Today there are none. A few years ago, 2019, in the Canadian snooker championship the winner was Bob Chaperon. He was 63 years old. He played in England in the 70's. I don't ever expect that Ronnie or John will be winning any titles in their 60's.

The best thing British snooker can do is break the association of pubs/bars with the sport of snooker. It’s an unhealthy relationship and the total opposite of what is needed to succeed now. It also fosters bad habits like drinking and smoking while playing, which can be alienating to a lot of young people interested in the game.
Look at the absolute state of some of these players, it’s shocking.
I guess the answer is more academies around the country. Treat the game like a racquet sport.

Some are. The two most successful ones (historically), Ding Junhui and Liang Wenbo, seem to have problems with that though. (In very different ways; of course Liang's ban is much worse than Ding's decline, which is hardly his fault).

Pure class from ronnie in decider against mark Williams. 2022 players championship. Never ceases to amaze me, i was good myself, I knw my snooker. But ronnie is a one off. U won't talent like that for a long time if ever. When he retires I won't watch it anymore.

There is no setups for young people, I’m near London and the only place to go is the old pub club nothing serious there especially at 10-12£ a hour. the government and organisers just aren’t doing anything. That’s why snooker has fell so far behind compared to other sports…
