"[A prophet] can't see the big picture before he can understand where he stands in relationship with God"
Today, I was pondering on a question I heard during Stake Conference : "How can we have love for those we serve the same way we love our children?"
The answer is : "We cannot effectively love those we serve without first understanding how Heavenly Father loves them. And we cannot understand how Heavenly Father loves them before understanding how He loves us personally." Or, in other, we cannot see the big picture before we can understand how we stand in relationship with God.
These are the things that overshadow every arguments of those against this Church; it is an inspired Church with inspired (and inspiring) people who, despite our/their fallibility, strive to know God like very few (or perhaps no other) people on Earth.

How many prophets are there including the ones that have passed?
They are not numbered for us to know at this time. There's many prophets, and even more books that we don't have, because of unbelief; we have witnessed this in modern day, with the loss of the book of Lehi. If we were faithful and believing at all times then we would not need prophets of God, because we would have been translated as Enoch and his people, to behold the presence of God.
