    Just a quick update - they recently pushed down a new firmware update that will allow for multi-file bin/cue CD images. I'll try to do a followup soon to show how that works.

    Just from my personal experience, the Everdrive is a good choice. I have the X7 and I looked for the first time in a year or 2 at the Krikzz download page and there were some updates. One of which was getting Virtua Racing working, which is pretty cool at least he cares about updates. I think that update kinda went unnoticed by the retro tech sites.

    • @PikangsFutaba
      @PikangsFutaba Před 3 lety +1

      Oh yeah, also in case you're into playing ROM hacks, Sonic Delta 40mb is playable on any family of the Mega Everdrive (X3 to X7 and Pro), however with the X3, X5 and X7 you either need to use a modded firmware from the Sonic Delta 40mb page or hex edit the ROM to make it pass like if the game is Super Street Fighter 2 (the game can be saved by the way regardless of the method you use to play the hack) and you cannot have the 32X connected to your console, nor the Sega/Mega CD (at least with the ROM hex edit method as far as I know).

      @PikangsFutaba Před 3 lety

      If that ends up happening, in the future I'll upgrade from the X7 (I'm currently waiting for my cart at the time of this comment) to that revision, but since I don't have a Sega CD, nor the 32X (and I'm hardly interested in their games aside from 2 or 3 of each add-on... like Knuckles Chaotix and Shining Force CD), the X7 is a perfect upgrade for me (I currently have the Everdrive MD V2 chinesse knock-off... that I don't use it too much for security reasons)

    There’s a program you can find on google called redump to PSIO that I use for the PSIO flash cart that converts redump a to a single bin and cue. I would think it’d work for this too.

    • @nrgdead8746
      @nrgdead8746 Před 4 lety

      There's also Binmerge, a Python script that will merge multi-bin images to single-bin. It will also stay Redump-compatible, as in the CRC-32 will match the total CRC-32 listed on Redump. Versus burning and re-ripping to a physical disc might not, depending on the software used.

    Big ones to test being Ys 1 and Phantasy Star 1.
    In 2019 MegaSD's FM sound emu was shown to be crap, but maybe it was fixed in 2020. Or maybe it wasn't, and maybe Mega Everdrive beats it.

      @SiliconeClone Před 4 lety

      Game Gear produces more colors than the Genesis can produce. So there is an issue with that.
      However a lot of GG games are on SMS so you could get them there for playing, or use the patcher to convert GG games to SMS in order to play them on the Genesis. No core really needed.

    Really cool info for you today. I got my MD ED Pro today and it works on my Retroad S Plus HD 7" Handheld SNES with the MD adapter. I am not getting all of the movie audio but the game looks stunning. Maybe I can use notepad++ to change some files and see if I can get that audio to work. Ali-Express has that Retroad S Plus but I would use like a green dot card or something and not a major credit card. Now I just need to get a hori fighting commander controller for the SNES and I can get my Popful Mail on anywhere.

    Does the "In-Game-Menu" allow you to get back to the rom list? I assume that's what that is. Pretty important feature for those who like to jump through games, and have their Genesis system across the room.
    I do sort of wish this had a more modern GUI. Having a small corner display, showing screen shots as you scroll, can look great, and also be useful for some roms that you don't instantly recognize while scrolling. It's also useful for Save States. I used this a lot on emulators, to create my own makeshift level select, often right as it showed the stage # or name in the screen shot. That, combined with the ability to play either an mp3, or Genesis chiptune, can really make it a neat experience. Even my old SNES copier from 1994 had a nice looking graphical menu w/ background music.

      I have the Mega Everdrive x7 and yes, the in-game menu does let you drop back into the file selector. The UI is barebones but at least it's very responsive which I personally prefer over audiovisuals you might not be able to turn off. The Mega SD has a flashier UI which is still nice but the MED Pro has by far the sexier cart.

    If only I had enough money I would have nabbed this one instead of the X7 last May (I'm currently waiting for my X7 to arrive), but... since I pretty much I'm only interested in 2 or 3 Sega CD games (one of them is Shining Force CD) I don't think it's worth the extra money for the Sega CD and NES support, but one thing for sure is that the X7 is going to replace my stupid Everdrive MD V2 (chinese knock-off) as I think I nearly "killed" the cart by loading over and over multiple ROM hacks I tried, and in any case I'm not interested in Sega 32X (despite having the support already on the cart... but I don't have the add-on and I don't think is worth if I'm interested in about 2 or 3 games just like the Sega CD... one of them being Knuckles Chaotix).

Sega is very good for this sort of thing and if you consider for example, that the Sega collection on Steam has nearly 60 games (some of which are a bit pricy as original carts) and which goes on sale frequently, the economics start to make sense.
