      Flamingosundew missy did it better, she seemed much more dangerous than this new master and was also funny. She did that all without shouting all the time unlike this Master, the childish thing to me is just annoying as for me the master should be erratic and you shouldn’t be able to predict what they’re going to do. But getting back to the point, if we take an example from The Magicians Apprentice missy is asked if she’s “turned good” and instead of laughing and saying no she disintergrates 2 guy right then and there which is like saying to someone “so you’re okay mentally now yes?” And then they stab a few people to death, whereas the new master walked into a room and to get people on the floor he just made them into figures which is like walking into a bank you’re going to rob and firing some warning shots except you shoot a few people instead to get everyone else to listen. Missy in my opinion is much more effective as she didn’t need to kill those people just to answer a question (and she remained calm the whole time) unlike the new master who kinda had to first some shots to get people listening. So no he didn’t shrink people just because he can but because people would just go “haha look at the weird shouty man” instead. It does make sense though that he’d shoot the people, especially when he shot the ones who didn’t even really move at all, that was very master-like.

  • @STHV_
    @STHV_ Před 4 lety +24

    This episode annoyed me so much, mainly due to the Paris 1943 scenes, these scenes made no sense at all from a historical point of view and you don't even need any real knowledge to spot problems which is pretty sad considering Doctor Who was originally meant to be both educational and entertaining
    First
    Why is Paris half bombed out and on fire? The City was taken without a fight in 1940 to prevent damage to the historic buildings etc and it was not heaily bombed by the Allies for the same reason as well as there was not really a need to
    Second
    Why is there an audible small arms firefight going on in the distance? The only ground combat would have been the occasional small skirmish with the French resistance until the Allies land at Normandy (6th June 1944)
    Third
    Why are there so many flags on the Eiffel Tower, there was only one (the fist flag was large but blew away in the wind and was replaced by a smaller one)
    Fourth
    You are correct about the Wehrmacht soldiers having to run up the entire tower as the lift cables were sabotaged by the French before the Germans arrived, preventing Hitler from going up when he visited, it was only repaired in 1946
    Fifth
    Why are the anti aircraft search lights repeatedly looking at the Tower instead of doing their jobs and looking for aircraft?
    Sixth
    Why is there a constant air raid siren? Air raid sirens are activated once to signal the beggining of an air raid and then once again as an all clear
    Seventh
    The Master would not need the perception filter, rather counter intuitively the Waffen SS was the most diverse army of the Second World War with units from India to the UK, He could have easily just taken the place of a Free India Legion officer for example, however he would need a different uniform
    There are probably some others that i forgot because i am trying to forget that these two episodes and the last series ever existed in the first place

    People really need to chill with their outcry over someone not enjoying what they enjoyed. Yes, you think he's wrong and that's fine. Yes, you can argue that he's wrong and that's fine. What you have to realise is the manner in which you create your argument. Crying out what is essentially "YOU'RE WRONG BECAUSE I SAY YOU'RE WRONG" contributes nothing to any form of a discussion.
    Actually respect the one creating a cohesive argument and create a cohesive argument of your own as opposed to "YOU'RE WRONG, SO NYEHH!" Really is as simple as that.

    • @TooTsaka
      @TooTsaka Před 4 lety +1

      @Cyrus Wolfe they're such insufferable people. I get that critiquing is a touchy thing to get into and there will always be someone who is offended by it, which is fine in itself. What isn't fine is lashing out and spewing vitriol towards others with differing opinions.
      I say this, but I decided to engage with someone who lashed out at Harry and eventually lashed out at them, so in that regard, I'm a hypocrite anyway. I simply mention a CZcamsr and instantly receive "He's a nonce and a bigot", and I ask why they have that view and I receive nothing. In the end, may as well slap them around the head and give them back the attitude they're giving.
      It's true insanity. Merely request people to make points of their own as opposed to spewing "YOU'RE WRONG" and you get what eventually totals an essay when they could have spent far less time just actually discussing their views. Most I got was "3/10 is unfair and I wouldn't rate any episode less than 5/10."
      "Okay... why?"
      "Fuck you. That's why."
      Big mouths, vile attitude and very little to say. Unbelievable, to say the least.
      At least it's not a case of someone getting offended over me saying, "I personally don't like this song, but what is it that makes you like it?" Some truly odd people about who seem to enjoy making "getting offended" into a hobby.

Simple logic means that, if this is better than most of last series, and Harry gave one of the _weakest_ episodes of S11 a 4/10, it follows that Spyfall Part Two deserves rather more than the Tsuranga Conundrum... even if "rather more", in Harry's world, means a miserly one point. Also the Nazi's considered high-caste Indians to be "Aryan" based on the pseudo-historical idea that Indo-European languages were spread by a historic "master race" (hence why the pinched the Swastika from India)

      @levanafay Před 4 lety

      In defence of Missy saying that line; she's the Master. :) It was clearly both a dig at the Doctor and the characters' superiority complex at work.
      John Simm's Master was so over the top sexist that it was amazing the writers got away with it. His natural charisma and the amorality of the Master allows the character to say and do things that are unnacceptable for a 'good' or 'moral' character. A character such as the Doctor, whom we need to identify with.
      She was also speaking to a Dalek (another villian) which happens to be genderless, so the remark passes by without causing much offence. Personally, I think Jodie's serious delivery and sharp movement into Stephen Fry's personal space is what makes people consider the comment an insult rather than a simple call back. :)

    • @lesigh1749
      @lesigh1749 Před 4 lety +1

      @@levanafay There's also a lot of context involved from the general tone of the show in recent years being very much leaning towards casual misandry on screen, and Whittaker's of screen comments about believing the show had only served "the white male gaze" before she came along, and being determined to fix that. Her flippant feminism is pretty obnoxious, and really is just another type of sexism. its really not okay, no matter who is doing it.
      We should be able to laugh at remarks like this in a TV show, but the politics the cast and producer have heaped into the show make it pretty clear its not a joke, its a dig at men....again.

    • @levanafay
      @levanafay Před 4 lety

      @@lesigh1749 I agree, we should be able to laugh at remarks like that. The sheer history of sexism towards women that the show has displayed over its run is not a tally that the show now needs to equalise. It's period typical (even the sexism in the revival, unfortunately) and needs to be left in the past. Deliberately including sexism towards women just so they can respond with sexism towards men doesn't balance the scale, it just makes for an offensive show. This does seem to be where it is going, however. Visiting situations and time periods where the Doctor is guaranteed to be the victim of this kind of behaviour just so they can preach to the audience is a very toxic attitude to have. Feminism is about equality, not making women the most important gender. This show is not feminist.

      If the timeless child is what I think it is then it completely ruins Matt smith being the last regeneration.... Am i right in thinking that?

    This entire episode felt like it was only two levels above a boomer tier "Phones r very bad" comic

    It would've been good if the Doctor and the companions were all transported back in time to Paris during the second world war. You could have had an amusing exchange then between Yaz and Noor Khan such as: YAZ: You're a British Spy? How come I haven't heard of you ? NOOR: Maybe, because I'm a Spy, we're trained to be discreet. It would be a nice subversion of the new agenda that female historical characters are somehow being buried in history. It could also add an element to Yaz's character with a belief that she has to prove herself and that she may be little more than a diversity hire. An issue police hiring was once accused of, but in a subtle way rather than flagpoling.

    What annoys me isn't the fact the whole Master-forcing-companions-on-the-run thing but just how poorly developed it is in comparison to the previous time he did it; we have an entire episode of Martha being on the run and being smuggled under the radar while trying to pass on her message around the world, whereas this time around we just have the three of them chilling in that building site or whatever it was and they're rumbled in the very next scene and it didn't really have the same gravitas courtesy of Graham's dancing (he's by far my favourite companion of the three and his comic relief role tends to work but there's a time and a place and this episode wasn't it). Martha actually being captured also added to the suspense of the episode because it wasn't until the very last second that we realised the Master wouldn't actually succeed, whereas this time around it just felt more like a game of cat and mouse between the Master and the various factions of Team TARDIS, he never properly had the upper hand so he didn't even set himself up for a fall. Simm's Master was on top of the world, literally and metaphorically, so his fall from grace was so much more spectacular, Dhawan's Master was just a matter of "this is my plan.. oh shit it didn't work, never mind" and was quickly overshadowed by his revelation about Gallifrey.

    But like how the hell did the master make a house TARDIS in the first place

      Same way Clara made a diner, I suppose.

      The trouble I have is that the chameleon circuit should change how his TARDIS looks to fit the scenario. Watching a house flying around looks absolutely ridiculous. So does a diner through space.
