  • The Tamworth Garage 90th Anniversary Open Day & Running Day is featured in this film which was also a celebration of 100 years of Midland Red Buses operating and 105 years of motor buses in the town.
Many of the vintage buses ran trips through the local town centre including 4 which attended from the Transport Museum Wythall which included a 1940 BMMO SOS SON GHA 337 making a very rare appearance. The trips ran to Newton Regis, Hockley and Drayton Bassett to name a few.
The film starts with some of the buses arriving then many of them are seen departing on trips in Tamworth and along a very busy Corporation Street with the regular service buses. We also see inside Aldergate Garage where various buses were also on display along with stalls selling bus related merchandise.
There was plenty of interest throughout the day which was really most enjoyable and seeing the D9 brought back fond memories for me travelling on these in the 1970's. This really was a brilliant day which was very well attended in the summer sunshine. Even the current Arriva buses joined in the fun by displaying 90th birthday celebrations on their destination blinds.
Thank you to all the organisers and staff at Arriva for their hard work in bringing us this event and on the day.
Special thanks to all the bus owners who brought their vehicles for us all to enjoy.
