    hi, thank you for the video! I am an ec graduate but with 2.06 GPA (German grading). When I checked the requirements it was 1.5 GPA cutoff, do they still consider 2.06?

    • @knowledgeoverflow6012
      @knowledgeoverflow6012  Před rokem

      Hi Nishal. Well, they are not asking 1.5 to be your overall grade. There's a specific calculation they have given here. Take out the best courses from your program that adds up to 150 ECTS credits. Then calculate the German GPA for this. Name it Avg 1. Then filter out Statistics and Data Modelling based courses from your curriculum and get an equivalent German grade for it too. Name it Avg 2. Then filter Computer Science courses from your curriculum and get another German grade for this. Name it Avg 3. Now, average all the 3 averages we calculated above. That needs to be better than 1.5. So, don't worry so early, you might get a better grade with this calculation! Also, if in an unfortunate case, it doesn't go below 1.5, then the application will be a straight reject as they have firmly written "must be better" which is probably the strongest word for a request in the English language!😅 Good luck with the calculations. Hope you get into the "better" range!✌️

      @@knowledgeoverflow6012 thank you sooo much for the prompt reply, highly appreciate it. Since I'm from ECE, don't you think i don't even subjects related to CS and stats :( I have like one or two. How to calculate then? I might be asking for a lot. But can you help me with this regard?

      hey, can you please help with this calculation?

    • @knowledgeoverflow6012
      @knowledgeoverflow6012  Před rokem

      Well, that could be a problem. Generally 60 ECTS equals 1 year degree. So, essentially 30 ECTS could correspond to many courses. You can try including "maths" subjects in that bucket to try your luck and similarly for CS-based courses. It's not foul play but a calculated risk in order to atleast get to the admission committee's table.
      To calculate ECTS for a course, find the number of hours taught in a week for that course, multiply it by the number of weeks in that semester and divide thd result by 30. This will give you ECTS for that subject.
      Hope this was of some help.

    • @knowledgeoverflow6012
      @knowledgeoverflow6012  Před 2 lety

      Hi Saloni. So German universities use a different grading system known as the Bavarian system. In this you have a 1 to 5 scale; 1 being the absolute best and 5 being the worst. We have a detailed video on our channel for that, you can watch and know more about it here: czcams.com/video/SLwxoa0URts/video.html
      So for specific subjects, they require a specific grade average. Like for computers courses a specific score is being asked. So you need to calculate the average of all those subjects. Hope this helps!

Knowing or not knowing a subject is totally a different thing and will only be a roadblock in case of an interview. So, you'll be fine as long as you fulfil the requirements. Hope this helps.

    • @knowledgeoverflow6012
      @knowledgeoverflow6012  Před rokem

      Hi Soumyadipta. Well, firstly you need to follow this structure to get your German grade.
      Now, in order to calculate these German grades discussed above, we use "Modified Bavarian Formula". It's a complicated formula to write here, so you can use any of the German calculators online or read about this formula on Wikipedia and apply values to the variables yourself.
      Here's our video on how to convert to a German GPA:

    • @knowledgeoverflow6012
      @knowledgeoverflow6012  Před 2 lety +2

      Hey Tincy. You are indeed eligible to apply to this course. As far as different study domains are concerned, Germans don't care about switching fields unless you can provide a strong reason. For that you must write a strong SOP indicating why and how switching helped/helping you. Public universities anywhere in the world are never easy to get into, especially the German once due to their low or no cost of study. That said, it's not impossible either! You need to distinguish yourself by showcasing your experiences through your SOP. One ideal trick is SOP shouldn't look like a "detailed resume". Hope all this helps. Good luck for your application!✌️

      @knowledgeoverflow6012  Před 2 lety

      Hi Shreya! There you'll have to put the name of the subject that you want to apply to. For example, the major for this course would be Data Science. You can club it with a minor if you want and that'll go into minor and 2nd minor respectively. Similarly, if you have another course on your mind, you can fill it in the 2nd choice. They'll consider you for that course if you're not accepted to the first course. For entry level you'd put 1, because you want admission to the 1st semester. I hope this helps? Good luck with your application!👍

    Can a Mechanical engineering bachelor from India apply for a master's in data science in German Public University?

    • @knowledgeoverflow6012
      @knowledgeoverflow6012  Před rokem +1

      Hi Gouri. Yes, absolutely you can apply to German public universities with a different bachelor program. However, they have a certain requirement that you must have studied a required number of credits in the related field. In this case it would be computer science and statistics. For exact number of credits you might need to check the full video. In addition to that, you need to write an excellent SoP stating why you would like to switch your domain. German universities are known to be orthodox when it comes to switching fields and thus it becomes extremely important to explain why you want to make the switch. While writing the SoP, we would suggest not to completely disregard your mechanical background. Try to make connections in your field to data science and explain how a data science degree can help you achieve something in your current domain. Even if you don't want to work in mechanical domain, try to find a link between these fields and exploit that to write your SoP. Hope this helps.

    • @knowledgeoverflow6012
      @knowledgeoverflow6012  Před rokem +1

      Hi Vivek. Germans are known to be sticking to the domains and hence it becomes necessary to provide the underlying reasoning. Had it been in some other domain, you might need to have explained why would you like to change your domain. But in your case, it seems you won't need one as you have 5 years of software experience. As a matter of fact, 5 years is a solid work experience and could place you in the top profiles for admits.
      As for IELTS, we would suggest to appear for it anyway because there have been instances where you have a university offer but your visa was rejected. So to avoid a probable visa rejection, it is always advised to write an English test even though the university doesn't ask for it. Good luck!✌️

    Is 180 credits is mandatory because our college is offering only 164 credits

    • @knowledgeoverflow6012
      @knowledgeoverflow6012  Před rokem

      Hi Gowtham. These 180 credits refer to ECTS credits which is a standardised credit system in Europe. You might need to check with your university about the credit system they follow. Then you can convert a course's credit points to ECTS by using this formula:
      ECTS_Credits = Your_Course_Credit * (60 * Degree_Years) / Total_Credits
      For example, if you have a 3 credit course, the equivalent ECTS would be:
      ECTS = 3 * (60 * 3) / 164 = 3.3 ~ 3.
      Assuming you have a 3-year degree. You can put the exact number in this formula and calculate the equivalent ECTS and then add all the individual ECTS to get the overall ECTS for the complete degree program. Hope this helps
