I hated how she looked. They literally took Boo’s face from monsters inc and stuck it on a adult woman’s body.

According to the background lore, everyone in the nation of Gallia has to go through militia training all the way through high school with the option to continue it if they go into college or not. So, yes, they do conscript children. Who's really the bad guys in the chronicles?
Also, apparently this nation has individuals who built the best tanks in the world, but they decided not to mass produce them. Because who doesn't want the best tanks when surrounded by hostile nations who covet your resources?
Simple, tank is good, if road and no dragon teeth or those aluminium x shaped things, or else, it does not work
And also, like, when e v e r y o n e wants your things, you have to get everything you can to secure your frontlines
@@WuggaBuggins14 actually, the Edelweiss was indeed in trials to become the main battle tank of Gallia, with the first game protagonist's father, a war hero, sponsoring it. The goverment rejected it do to high costs of manufacturing, so they fielded totally-not-FTs instead. And maybe because the lead designer was a not-jew
That's true however if I remember correctly this game has you take on the role of Atlantic Federations troops, not Gallian soldiers so it doesn't really count here.
the drawback of having a cool anime artstyle is you have to accept the anime cliches that come with it, such as the power of friendship, cartoonishly evil antagonists, fluffy and nonsensical monologues, lolis, fanservice and a cast that's 50% teenagers. The excess of anime cliches is my least favourite thing about the VC series but there's not really any other games that scratch VC's itch in terms of gameplay and artstyle so you just have to grit your teeth and bear it.
about the tanks, it's mentioned in the weapon gallery that the powerful edelweiss and hafen aren't cost-effective to mass produce, presumably the financial resources going into one hafen could be used to make 3 or 4 regular tanks instead, and when fighting nations of this size you have to make some sacrifices in quality for the sake of quantity

@@thesussybaka7733 Women can't birth more after they reach a certain age. There's also the chance of them dying from complications at birth. I can't say about men being more expendable though, considering that we can still make babies even into old age. So yeah, it's best to just avoid conflict altogether rather than putting unwilling lives on the front line, imo.

Well, some of the countries literally are scraping the barrel. As in they have mandatory conscription and military training for all citizens from 16-60.
lore wise i believe that you could join the war as a child if you preformed high on the government mandated army tests and had a desire to join

@@zacharybray6200 in the lore most sides were getting absolutely YEETed in the war with huge casualties resulting in them taking anyone, even kids. I think the first game even has a 12 year old girl as a shock trooper for the militia.

well, thats becasue, if you calculated trajectory right, they are. plus they are AOE. grenadiers are basically light artillary for infantry. they don't need to 'HIT' a precise target, they just carpet bomb the Area.

Ragnarok does actually sub for Karen sometimes in the medic scenes, though it's only happened to me three times in like a couple dozen rescues, and two of them had both Karen and Ragnarok, with only one time where Ragnarok went out on his own.

yeah, but being panicky and being a shocktrooper is not very good. since the shocktroopers job is to run into enemy fire.
I never play the other games 2 and 3. I think 2 had you use student soldiers while the 3 one was about a secret army unit.

I don't know about VC4, but I do know in the first game the Imperial invasion was so strong and swift that they basically pulled an extreme Volkssturm and "volunteered" everyone who could see lightning, hear thunder, and hold a gun. Blond child could genuinely be a "recruit" in that vein.
This is just an alternate reality caused by the atomic bombs, the power was vastly underestimated and it ripped a hole in reality and created this game universe. (also you better do a full playthrough of this game)

I'm currently playing through VC1 and seeing this makes me want to finish it asap and start VC4, great video!
Rewatching this series, and it's funny watching Rimmy react to his child soldier, and knowing how much he grows to love his characters.
i always loved the irony of a japanese game where you play against "the germans (also russians?)" as pseudo innocent western (kind of japanised) nation. When Japan was allied with the germans.
Also wherein much later on the protagonists make a relatively decent argument for nuking a capitol city.
