I beat it in 3 tries number VII is the most difficult to me, I still haven't beaten it.
He is not a waste of space. It annoys me when people calling him useless. He is nut super useful but useful.
every Mushroom represents the characteristic/fighting style of their correspondent Organization counterpart:
I - Xemmas = The strongest. Also reversals
II - Xigbar = Shoots projectiles like his
III - Xaldin = Wind. Fly.
IV - Vexen = When you fight him, he makes clones of Sora
V - Lexaeus = Physically the strongest so you need to be strong to beat him
VI - Zexion = has the attribute of 'Illusions'
VII - Saïx = straight-out crazy. Berserk
VIII - Axel = Google 'KH 358/2 Days Vacation'
Since they are besties.
IX - Demyx = Lazy. Comedic.
X - Luxord = Gambling.
XI - Marluxia = Same as Marluxia's Data fight, only reversed
XII - Larxene = Same as Larxene Data
XIII - Roxas = Aiding Sora.
Roxas cares for sora that's why he gives him the crown after defeating all the mushrooms

for mushroom 8 i found that going valor form instead works well because the basic aerial attack closes the gap between you and the mushroom very quickly and allows you to keep attacking the mushroom and even reach the maximum amount of hits.
I know I'm like 5 years late, but I've been playing through the series for the first time and trying to 100% each game as much as I can, and this is probably one of the best guides I've come across. The timestamps/annotations were super helpful (even if they don't work anymore), the editing was great, and you even gave multiple strategies in case people were having trouble with the first one. Super super helpful :3

for mushroom 8, many people's strategies are just fucking wrong. they don't work. I've tried literally all of the popular methods and it seems like you need to be incredibly lucky for any of them to work.
I've tried berserk charge in wisdom, master, and final. I've tried berserk charge while using limits (comet, or trinity). Nothing works.
with berserk charge in master, you will frequently miss an attack and then the mushroom drops like a rock with no chance of recovery.
with limits, he ALWAYS gets knocked too far away when he's at like 60 hits. if you use the limits, they hit, but then it's impossible to get the last 10+ hits because he'll get knocked away again.
The way I did it, and managed to get 99 hits with, is to NOT use berserk charge. You want wisdom forms' finisher. You spam Thundaga finisher(s) to get additional height at the beginning, and then spam away with the bullets. make sure you're a decent distance away too so the bullets have time to curve upwards. If you're too close, he will hit the ground during the few seconds where you can't shoot anything after the finisher.
you may need at least 1 finishing plus
this mushroom is still pure bullshit and I failed multiple times redoing my strategy, but this has the highest success rate for me. The other ones wouldn't work for me even though I spent way longer trying. The key with this strat, is the distance. too close, and you'll miss too many and he'll hit the ground. too far away, and it's very likely the game will turn off your lock-on. If this happens, try to quickly move closer and start shooting again after locking on while moving back again
Ausar0 yes it is completely luck based, at any point the mushroom can just slide just beneath you moving his hitbox just out of your reach. But I think the most efficient method to beating this mushroom is to use the comet strategy to keep it in the air. Just keep it low enough for your attacks to hit it and you should be fine. Its the most consistent method I've used so far.

I've tried the comet strat literally 10 times. every single time, I'm forced to use it at 60 hits, then, I get like one full combo in, and he launches again. can't use comet again because mp is on recharge.

It's 2018 on the PS4 Pro and this guide is still super helpful! SO HAPPY you got accepted to get to play KH 3 early. Make sure you tell them if anything is up with the physics and combos and attacks. We wanna fell FORCE when we hit those enemies.
i actually managed to do #8 with the master form strategy. I equipped the Guardian Soul along with the Fatal Crest Keyblade for the beserker ability. All i did was used curage, spammed thundaga and and attacked it WITHOUT MOVING SORA!!!! It took me two tries and i got it

The way i did Mushroom VIII was Use Master Form with Berserk charge or Fatal Crest and Before touching the Mushroom using Curaga and Immediately beginning the duel. From there on you just attack it endlessly while following it's direction it ends up flying to. If anything is difficult about this method it'd be keeping Sora close enough to the Mushroom to keep him from not flinging the Mushroom too far to catch up too, and the camera will sometimes be in the opposite direction the Mushroom flew in. Otherwise I got 85 after 3 or 4 tries

For mushroom number 3 I feel like another easy thing to do is count when the next large patch of orbs will drop. The first time he releases it is until 5 seconds and the rest are 4 seconds then he'll drop some orbs. Key thing is to not lose sight of him.

The Wisdom Form trick during the horizontal slash method is what made it for me. Once my counter would hit the 70-75 range, the mushroom would consistently be launched too far away. The extra hits during Wisdom Form hit the mark.

Mushroom XIII's all difficulties! 📊
2:22 I (1) - Easy, Just use final form
4:49 II (2) - Pretty Easy, just use Reflega a LOT.
5:58 III (3) - Easy, just have some Draws equipped.
7:58 IV (4) - Eadium, Pretty easy but sometimes the Mushrooms spawn on you.
9:15 V (5) - Pretty Easy, just use Final Form or Limit Form. (use Fenrir!)
10:20 VI (6) - Eadium, for some players this may take 2 or 3 tries. Make sure to have lots of MP!
11:48 VII (7)- Very Easy, just use Reflega and Final Form!
12:52 VIII (8) - Very Hard, this one may take 10 minutes, or it may take an HOUR! Good luck.
18:03 IX (9) - Eadium, Pretty easy; but sometimes the auto-aim breaks and you have to restart.
19:01 X (10) - Medium, i have to rank it this because he said "I'd say that this Mushroom is Medium in difficulty." at 19:26.
20:11 XI (11) - Eadium, for some players this may take 2 or 3 tries. Make sure to stay at a medium distance from XI.
21:26 XII (12) - Easy, Just use Wisdom Form and make sure to Lock On!
22:42 XIII (13) - Super Easy, All you have to do is press🔺.

A better way to deal with mushroom 5 is to equip fenrir and decisive pumpkin for the highest attack, equip a bunch of potions to reduce the cost of this method, then go final form and spam items next to the mushroom to kill it in under 3 seconds

+onesonicguy The strategies explained here for #8 aren't consistent. The best way to do it is to have berserk charge enabled, go into wisdom form, pluck the mushroom, spam thunder until your mp is drained then spam the attack button. Once your mp is recharged spam thunder again then spam attack.
that doesn't work either. At one point your MP will get too low to cast thundaga but not low enough to initiate Beserk, so when you hit thunder you just get the buzzer noise but you still have like 3 MP.
***** no, any spell can be cast regardless of how much mp is left. The buzzer noise is only ever initiated once mp recharge has begun

Two completely different games. They are both awesome. KH2 has better story and made my adolescence but Skyrim is more entertaining. I would pick KH2 for memories and Skyrim for fun.
I've literally put hundreds of hours into Skyrim over the years. But since I started heavily playing more action-RPGs like Dark Souls 3, Nier Automata and Kingdom Hearts 2, I've found Skyrim to be too slow to keep my attention. Maybe I've just developed ADD :D

BigCoreGradiusXAnime I can say that using drive forms with the TBO keyblade doesn't automatically turn you anti-form, I think it just increases the chance so that you can get FINAL FORM easier

It took me a while to beat mushroom 8 but man, I was surprised that I almost got it in one try. I was 5 hits away when I messed up and it fell to the ground, I was even more surprised that I didn't struggle with the horizontal slash as I forget to use it sometimes.
I hope the mushrooms return in kh4. They are so fun to play with.

I haven't played KH2fm for nearly 2 years, I'll get back to it soon thanks to this guide. I've been stuck on three mushrooms, the one in Olympus, TWTNW & Yen Sid's Tower.
Thank you very much for this video, and many others (Your Drive Level up guide, Ultima Weapon, etc.). First time player of the KH series and I've been going through the games one by one, and these guides really helped out a ton!
For anyone like me who was looking to get the top tier mushroom weapons for Donald and Goofy (The Ultimate Mushroom Shield and Premium Mushroom Staff), the two Mushroom's I used to get the S-Rank were Mushroom 2 and Mushroom 9. Mushroom 2's Shield reflect game is pretty easy to S-Rank, as you just need to get 99 points to guarantee the Ultimate Mushroom Shield. Mushroom 9 is SUPER easy, and as such you should have no trouble Horizontal Slashing him 99 times to get the Premium Mushroom Staff. 5 is another fairly easy choice for the staff, but you need to spend time leveling up, or synthesizing gear to make it so you can kill him in 3 seconds, but this is costly and not time effective compared to 9.
Good luck to everyone still working on these guys. It takes time, but you'll beat them!

Thanks for this. It rally helped a lot. But mushroom 8 was fairly easy. Mushroom 10 however was sent from hell to torture me. It took me a whole day to complete it.
I took him on with Valor form, Ultima weapon & Rumbling Rose (with affiliated abilities). Went from 1:45 down to 0:38
me too. he keeps going invincible for me much more quickly than in this video. most of the time he's invincible after 1 or 2 hits before i even get off my finisher. sometimes he's vurnerable longer but i'm not sure what i'm doing differently.
Just did the 8th one and bruh, I literally sat there like more than an hour until I could finally did it with the Master Form strategy...
I love Kingdom Hearts from the bottom of my heart but there also things from this series I don't like. For example mini games.....and gumi missions..... -_-

Mushroom 8...I've been at this for about four hours now. I tried this method and (literally) six others. I thought I was good at this game. Nope. One mushroom trumped hours and hours of what I thought was skill at beating the Data Org and the Absent Silhouettes. Anyways I found a way to do it after a few tries. This guy has an amazing walkthrough but his ways only got me to anywhere from 77 to 81 hits. Probably a skill issue but after going Master Form with Fatal Crest and Guardian Soul I got 95 hits on my fourth try with this method. Use curaga before pressing triangle for the unlimited combo and make sure to keep an eye on the left joystick. Sora tends to float away in the middle of combos. That's the main issue with the Master Form strategy. The mushroom actually stays in front of you the whole time during it. Now, i'm going to go cry in a corner. >__>

This was super helpful. Still relevant even in 2022. Also, that mushroom in front of the tower really is the worst! I ended up using the horizontal slash + clutch wisdom form strat, but instead of using cure to start, I would use thunder like you suggested in the master form strategy. I actually managed to get 99 this way too (admittedly with a bit of luck - got my wisdom form shots off in time, and he got stuck on a wall so I could get the last few hits). Seriously great video. Thank you!

Hold on a second how the actual fuck am I supposed to do mushroom 10 on Lvl1? I don´t do nearly enough dmg to get him done in less than 55 seconds how´s that supposed to work?
Some mushrooms are impossible on LV1 without Power Boosts.
Oh dear, thanks for the reply but doesn´t that kind of defeat the purpose of a lvl 1 run? To keep the stats as low as possible, skipping some abilities and still being able to do everything? Welp guess Ima go farm Power boosts now thanks for the quick reply :)
BlizzROCKS&Plays It does defeat the purpose, that's why most people when they play LV1 only go for a Silver Crown (Data Org + Lingering Will) and just leave out Mushroom completion.

Anti sora what you need to do is go wisdom form without berserk charge at the start empty lightning into it and then keep a respectable distance and shoot, i got it to 99 on like mt 5th try. The horizontal slash technique is super luck based compared to that one.

Christian Greene THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!! After three hours being stuck at 84 points (fuck my life), I tried your method. Still wasn’t easy until I found wich distance to keep with the mushroom and I also cornered him near the left entrance of the tower. Still depends a bit on luck but man feels good to get 99 once I could do it! I also kept berserk on for after the first round of lighting at the beginning as it has less chance of him falling as there is no end of combo. Anyways thank you! Thank you this video helped it took probably took me over an hour to figure it out but using guardian soul and just using the abilities you mentioned and following the steps it worked I got a score of 89.
