  • Kevin Fox’s team harvesting 2nd cut silage under the threatening skies. Rowing up ahead of the Claas Jaguar 950 forager is a 28-year old MF 6180 and Krone Swadro rake while a triple team consisting of a MF 7718S, 6616 and 6480 models lead in with Marshall trailers. At the pit a MF 6470 does the bulk of the clamping work while the farms MF 135 rolls the very full shed.
    Filmed in Cumbria August 2023.

Very nicely filmed David! Really can't beat seeing old Massey's at work, we're lucky we get to see so many around these parts!

We certainly are blessed to see so many Jacob. Still plenty of the old classic Masseys out there to film in the area. Thanks again my friend, cheers David

Thanks Steve. I can remember nearly when the Massey 6100 series tractors came out and the 6180 was considered a big tractor. How times have changed!! Cheers David

Good video brings back memories of us buckraking silage with our wee 135 from a taarup 1015 silage wagon about 10 acres per day 👍

That wasn’t bad going for a forage wagon back then! Would have liked to see that Paul, if only we could time travel.. Thanks again, cheers David

Thank you Des. I can remember even further back than that (showing my age now)doing the same job with a 135! Cheers David.

Thanks David. I well remember making silage with just two 35s! Sometimes we put a barrel of Molasses on the back of the rolling tractor and spread it around the heap!

I’ve heard of that before Alan, not a bad way of applying the additives. I remember an old farmer from years back saying he made silage with two Fordson Majors, one on a single-chop flail harvester with the other on a trip-tip buckrake! Would have been quite a modern outfit back then!

Thanks David for another very interesting video. These Claas Jaguars are some machines. My neighbor has two of them and they can chop some amount of silage in a shift! Love seeing all these Masseys working away although the little 135 could probably do with a few more pounds on her to roll a bit better. Having said that, not sure how keen I would be to be on the top rolling side on especially if a soft spot opens up 😮. Think the sky that day just summed up the weather this year.

Thank you Fraser. Yes those Jaguar foragers can certainly get through some grass, an enormous appetite for the green stuff so I can imagine your neighbour will soon clear the fields. Your right about the 135, it probably could do with a bit more weight but still with plenty of running over the grass it’ll soon compact and hopefully result in some quality winter feed for the cattle. I’m with you on that one but the owner operating here has done the same job since the 135 was new so he’ll know how to deal with them. Agree, not a good summer and one many farmers round here would like to forget! Thanks again Fraser, best wishes, David.

Thanks Mick. Yes it was great to see the modern machines but also the classics such as the 135 and 6180 still doing a good job. Pleased you enjoyed the video, cheers David

Yes the 6470 certainly had a lot of grass to shift, it was coming in thick and fast! Thanks again for watching, always appreciated. Cheers, David
