For some of us alive today who had glimpses of him, we know exactly what we saw, a genius from another planet. It's in fact sacrilegious and an insult to the highest degree to compare him to Maradona or any other player of later generation. FIFA did a great disservice to football by co-awarding the player of the century to Pelé and Maradona. The Argentinian, has no business being on that platform with the King of soccer, Pelé.

Before Pelé the shirt with the 10 wasn't related to the best player, it was only after Pelé that the number 10 become a mark of the best player. Cristiano kinda did it with the 7 for exemplo, but in a way small scale. He's also the first complete player, and maybe the most complete ever, since he was perfect with both legs, awesome header, super striker, also awesome at freekicks, assists and as a playmaker. He was one of the most famous person on earth, almost everybody knew him, in every continent, even in USA where they aren't big fans of football. His a landmark athlete, even Muhammad Ali was said to be shy next to him. And you can see how other giants of other sports also cared, like Rafael Nadal, Usain Bolt, Mike Tyson, and even some presidents. People try to make less of him because he didn't play on Europe, but at that time Brazil's league was as good as there, Europe wasn't ahead in football that time like it is today, that's why even Di Stefano and Puskas had put Pelé as the best player ever.

If I would choose R9 or CR7 on peak I would also go for R9, and if It wasn't for his injuries he would be easily better and greater than CR7 and maybe Messi (his passing skills were not as goos as Messi). But sadly we need to take the injuries on the end to analyze his career and even with his 2 career ending injuries he still is TOP 10 of history and maybe top 5 (some consider Cruyff/Puskas or Di Stefano). So his longevity was reduced due to that... If he was fine for his whole career, more than 800 goals for him would be fairly easy.
And for Maradona and Messi is also a good debate, since both were them played practically the same way on every department of the field. Messi is like a copy-paste from Maradona, but his numbers and trophies are greater and better so this is why I'm inclined towards Messi instead of Maradona, but it's undenyable that Maradona was also a generational genius that also had drug problems that reduced his longevity that could be far greater.
As for CR7 I really have a tought time to figure it out where he is located... Sometimes I put him on 3rd,4th or even 5th (not below this) since his longevity, numbers, records and titles are awesome, but he doesent have a WC like Messi, Maradona, R9 or Pelé, and his peak was "worst" than all of these 4.
So in the end for me it's just Pelé that is clearly greater and better than all the others and Messi is a 2nd place but still clearly bellow Pelé.
And then the other 3 struggle to fight for the 3rd post since they all have pros and cons to these positions.
