- Gonna go back and upload the other 3rd semester stuff after this. I didn't record anything yet except for this fight but I do have saves. This is a lot better than the previous final boss. Maruki is much more interesting than Yaldabaoth. Pretty neat fight but very exploitable if you know what to do and you will have access to the highest level personas since you should be nearly max level by this point. It's really unfortunate that the last couple of phases are basically just scripted auto win fights. Still amazing scenes though.

I'm having trouble remembering the last time I enjoyed a villain as much as Maruki. He hardly felt like a villain, I really liked his character.
I just wish the last phase of the boss was...playable
Don't you think Maruki not reviving Kasumi is a plothole?
@@FirstPlace97 Well reviving Kasumi like Maruki did Wakaba would require changing the cognition of everyone in the world. At the time Maruki met Sumire, he was only capable of changing a single person's cognition like he did to Rumi, so he could only change Sumire's cognition to make her think she was Kasumi, while everyone else's cognition remained the same.
@@FirstPlace97 He only learns how to change worldwide cognition when he awakens to his Persona which happens on Christmas Eve.
@@kurimiaisukurimu Thanks for replying, but I still don't quite follow. It seems that the biggest plothole is that Sumire herself indicates that she is guilty about Kasumi dying, but she never asks for Kasumi to be revived. I still don't understand why Maruki can't/won't revive her anyway. And I guess he made Rumi happy again by reviving her parents, but it seems that because he is possessed, he simply wants to control everyone's cognition. I don't know what you mean by "he would need to change the whole world's cognition." He's doing that anyway in Mementos, isn't he?
@@FirstPlace97 When Wakaba and Okumura were brought to life, Maruki changed everyone's cognition to make it so. However, he could only do this after he awakened to his Persona. Before then, he could only change the cognition of single individuals. He wasn't capable of bringing Kasumi back to life at the time he met Sumire. And by the time his awakened to his Persona, Sumire was already living the happy lie so there wasn't really any need to change it. Also, at the time Sumire believed she would be happy living AS Kasumi, rather than with her. She just didn't want to be the one who got her sister killed.
Also, Maruki never brought Rumi's parents back to life.
I actually like Akechi’s true form and how he acts, he’s actually really serious since that is his true nature

Yeah Maruki was a great new villain for the game. His Palace was enjoyable to go through, learning his motivation and backstory was well done and his relationship with the cast definetly helped the emotion of this fight.
Also Final Boss music gets an A+, not sure if its better than Rivers in the Desert but its up there.
Only complaint is as a boss, its a shame he only gets easier as the fight progresses, First Phase is great, 2nd is fairly easy, and 3rd Phase ends too quickly to be hard. So Shido is still probably the Best Palace boss imo
The fact they give you a 1v1 with Shido at the tail end of his fight is just them going full-on anime and I fucking love it.

Absolute masterclass display on Merciless difficulty. Beautiful battle and backstory all around, especially for Maruki. Absolutely the best addition for P5R easily. My battle with him was a mix between slugfest and struggle on normal difficulty, but I got it done. You are a real Persona/SMT superfan right here!
I feel they could’ve scripted a mechanic where Maruki’s defenses dropped and it left openings to weaken his persona in the third phase rather than a “oh yeah just guard and heal until the cutscene plays”
it feels like it was meant to be originally. I don't see why Futuba would bring up a strategy just for that scene. I feel like the 2nd and 3rd phase got shorted and changed for some reason
WillJV2 yea parts of the fight got scrapped, there’s files too that had joker awakening this third persona in the fight, I wish they kept those things because it feels incomplete
Or there were files for a raoul cutscene something like that
I absolutely adore Maruki. He is hands down one of my favorite antagonists in any game I've played. His story is compelling and his powers are insane. That said....I feel cheated out of a good final battle with him. I struggled slightly when fighting Azathoth and the tentacles only to have him significantly weakened when he evolves to Adam Kadmon, then to just not even have a real fight with him. It does make me feel like Yaldabaoth was a better final boss but only in terms of battle. There was so much potential for this fight and it sucks that it was wasted

I just fought this boss for a second time, and I'm 99% sure that 3rd phase was meant to be an actual fight. When Adam Kadmon goes into Attack Position, his defense actually drops a lot. I was able to deal a bit over 5000 damage to each body part, and it actually made a significant dent in his health bar.
I wonder if its at all possible to beat it when this happens. That'd be fun

He would've left you in bed, forgotten by the world...that is seriously one of the creepiest bad endings of any game I've played.

I think I just realized a plot hole in the new ending. If Maruki can revive people, why not just revive Kasumi so that Sumire doesn't feel so bad anymore? Is it because she secretly covets Kasumi and simply wants to be her, at first?
Maruki can't revive people permanently. He just could have made her alive in her reality, meaning people would have been looking at her like she's crazy. Also, it would have told her something was wrong, because Sumire would have seen Kasumi and beeen like wait..thats not right. He wants to remove the pain and any chance at pain, so he wouldnt do that to be safe.

Its hard to explain, but at first maruki could only influence people subconsciously and grant desires, thats originally why sumire saw herself as kasumi, because of marukis influence. Im assuming she wanted to forget as a more subconscious desire than bring her back(grieving process, she already is passed wanting her back and wants to forget the pain)

Ring of Vanity negates the wearer's weakness when its equipped. I'm assuming thats what he used
Ring of vanity. Royal also adds a particular accessory that nulls bless/curse. Its hard to tell(unless you see it blocked like here) but most of marukis attacks are bless and almighty so he probably slapped one of those on there to make akechi viable. Bringing a guy with a weakness to the bosses main affinity is hardly a good idea on merciless
@@masquerade3852 that's St. Hermelin Badge (the one you get from Legacy DLC). Used it both on Akechi and Kasumi.

First phase was cool. Second phase was way too easy, and third phase was really disappointing since it's scripted to be impossible.
