    The Vulcan VN800 in this video had a dirty carburetor, and caused the float needle to stick open, which flooded the engine. Fuel was leaking out the exhaust pipes and also made it's way into the crankcase, overfilling it. So make sure to change your oil before you run it again!

    Not sure why one would complain that a guy wants to earn a bit from the work involved in putting together this type of helpful video. Matt's biggest mistake is not telling the audience at the beginning: "This video can be purchased for $14. It will provide guidance for taking the carb off the bike, but at ___ minutes, it will jump to 4 times the speed. If you want to get the regular speed version, please consider paying the $14. I am just trying to cover my cost of putting together these videos." or something like that. Basically, give us a heads-up so we do not expect something and get surprised.

    What is the correct fuel level in the carburetor?
    In the service manual it says that + -2mm above the upper edge of the float chamber. But it cannot be set like this. The float height is 16.5 mm + -2mm and with this setting the fuel level is below the edge of the chamber float.

      +TIM HAYES Check the inside of tank for overspray (and water from wetsanding). I've had good luck using brake fluid to get rid of overspray...just be careful not to get it on new paint! Then flush your lines and tear your carb apart and clean it as well. I'd replace the float needle as this model seems to get stuck float more than others. Change oil also, the fuel definitely made into the crankcase as well.

    Hey do you know the exact float height for the carb?

  • @itsawlcool1

    So I have 2 questions, the choke cable with the threading, i think my threading is messed up on that plastic part because it won't tighten/grip, can I replace that threaded price itself? And the black plastic 90 degree piece (hose comes from the fuel shut off valve) that piece broke, it was brittle, I can't find that piece anywhere, what can I do about that one?? I don't know if yours was the same but mine had a grey one and a black one of those plastic 90 degree things, (receiving and outgoing)

      Yes, that part is available. What year and make is yours? I went to the OEM parts finder under carburetor and it comes with elbow and threaded nut.

And after 12 minutes you fast forward over the best and most important part.. so thanks but not a useful video for me

    If the bike was stored with the petcock in the on or reserve position, then if you flooded the exhaust with fuel, the petcock must also be bad....

      What would be the measures to take after this has happening? The bike is bogging then coming out to almost full power it was stored for 3 years two of which had non ethanol gas in it in the on position. Thanks

    • @spelunkerd
      @spelunkerd Před 4 lety +1

      @@brett7794 Carb cleaning and replacement with new fuel and a new fuel filter is simple and easy, though you may need a seal and gasket kit. Automatic petcocks, with a vacuum hose leading to the petcock (and no off position), should not leak at all with engine off when the petcock is left in the on or reserve position. You'll know when you remove the tank with fuel in it. The tank will keep dribbling out the petcock. Without tearing the bike down you won't recognize a leaking petcock unless the carb bowl needle is leaking, too. If the petcock leaks, the option is to clean the petcock, with or without a seal kit, or replace it. All of these are bread and butter jobs at a pro shop, they don't usually cost much and results should be better than amateur tinkering.

      If you're having issues with backfiring & "Sneezing" when the bike is cold or if it runs hot when trolling at slow speed, you just need to rebuilt with a jet kit because the factory settings are too lean. I think i used a vance & hines kit and went up 2 sizes (3 would be full race mode) and raised the needle up 2 notches (there's several grooves to set the needle height). the bike runs so much better. mileage went from 50 down to 35, but that's what happens when you give it the gas it wants.
      i would suggest not doing an aftermarket carb swap, but hey it's your bike.

    At 9:18 you are taking off a Tube with green tape on it. You say "There's lots of Tubes on this bike." I'm curious what that tube goes to because I don't even have a tube anywhere on the bike to hook up to that spot on the carb. (I bought my bike previously owned and just want to make sure the previous owner didn't take something important off)

    • @HTMR
      @HTMR  Před 6 lety

      That tube is a vent. It may lead to some kind of evap. Grab the service manual and it should have a page on hose hookup/routing: www.howtomotorcyclerepair.com/kawasaki-vulcan-vn800-1995-2004-service-manual-2/

      It's on the bottom. There is probably a plug in it if it's stock. And can be gently drilled and pulled out. The screw is underneath. There are some videos on it even if it's not the 800 exactly. similar concept
