I think a lot of the confusion is that Milwaukee is in the Midwest, but so is Kansas City - And a Kansas City accent is basically undetectable
I'm in Illinois, so I think mine is... less? It was worse as a kid, because my mom absolutely talks like a hillbilly. She appropriate says "warsh" instead of "wash."
But my accent slips out when I talk to my family, according to friends. And sometimes random words or sentences will come out with an accent, and the squad drags me bc "what the fuck was that?"

Anyone else notice how Trixie’s accent comes back whenever she watches old videos of herself? I can’t think of the scientific term for this, but it happens to me and it warms my heart.

I think it’s kind of like code switching, which is when people who speak more than language unconsciously switch back and forth between languages, but not really code switching. It happens to me sometimes too. I’m Filipino, and if I’m talking to somebody who’s Filipino, but they’re speaking in English with an accent, my Filipino accent starts bubbling up to the surface. So yeah...it’s not technically code switching, but sort of like it.
