Wave 3 has the best selection of tracks! They went all out on Maple Treeway, Peach Gardens, and Rainbow Road! The custom item feature in VS mode and online is so unique to make chaos!

it turns out, that the Crazy Eight, doesn't work on it's own
it always needs 1 other item
as when you actually get the Crazy Eight, you get 8 of that other item, not the 8 different items we are used to
At 48:53 if you see in live chat i was the one who kept saying that Nathaniel should do the tracks backwards. but otherwise Nathaniel couldve forget about backwards. but anways atleast im happy that theres a backwards in each wave stream. It feels like a small tradition lol
Maple Treeway, Peach Gardens and 3DS Rainbow Road rocked in these! I can’t wait for the next one! Hopefully Delfino Square or Wuhu Loop or Maka Wuhu are in the next one!

Normally you're not allowed to have more than 1 blue shell active on the track at a time, looks like they got rid of the limit for if someone did blue shells only
No it’s just gone now. In normal races if people get multiple blue shells, they can be used at the same time now…

Yeah.... I did a gp on all of the dlc courses with blue shells and super horns only.... didn't stop me from pulling blue shells a bunch of the time or from getting spammed like it's Mario Kart Wii every 10 seconds... out of the 24 races, only 1 did I not pull a single blue shell in... 1... out of 24... and it was the very last race...
The custom items can also be set for each team separately when you turn teams on
Yeah I did no cpu 1v1 races with my brother where we picked one item each XD I chose boo he chose bullet bill. It was fun because not only was I invincible and could get mushrooms, I could also steal his bullets. Very OP.

Courses that go backwards at the last lap (Paris, Sydney, Berlin and Peach Gardens) prevents you from going backwards at the beginning because it would completely mess up the checkpoints, because you can see with London and Kalimari Desert that going backward at the start gives you the last lap path. (And going on will give you the second lap path, then the first, then the last one again and so on)
And that's why completing a lap first allows you to go backwards, because going backwards after one lap outs you back onto the lap 1 path, which you cna take backwards without any problem.
London is possible backward because no path go backwards. (And New York would be as well if not for the wall at the start of the tunnel)
Tokyo wasn't possible for another reason. Going backwards, as explained previously, will out you on lap 3 path. But the end of Tokyo lap 3 is a glider section, so the road below is out of bound for this lap, causing you to be unable to go backwards.
We gotta get Toad's Factory to this game, has amazing music and track design.

I'm glad I went into Wave 3 blind. It was an incredible experience, particularly with Peach Gardens. Yeah, I know Nathaniel isn't enthused about it, but I still think the added changes more than make up for it. Though seeing as how I played the game in handheld mode, I probably should play again in TV mode just to fully appreciate the graphics and soundtrack of this wave.
They went with really really great choices of tracks for this wave! Love the looks of a lot of them! One of the best waves so far in my personal opinion.
I was ultra surprised when I did Peach Gardens in reverse for the last lap!

At this point, the ONLY track that I would want is Wario Colosseum. It seems to be one of the most forgotten tracks and it's easily in my top 5 of the entire series. With Mario Kart 8's mechanics and graphics, that track could be amazing with all that you could do.

Honestly most of the Double Dash Star Cup tracks deserve to be in there. Gamecube's Rainbow Road was awesome, and so was Dino Dino Jungle. I'd love a return of any of these.

I love the look of 3DS Rainbow Road. The track itself. The rainbow road itself looks amazing. I think it’s the best looking track by far in Mario Kart Booster Course pass.
Has anyone else noticed a common theme with this wave? There are a lot of tracks in this wave that feature Chain Chomps. London Loop is infested with Chain Chomps. Peach Gardens has Chain Chomps guarding the place. And Rainbow Road has rolling Chain Chomp heads on the moon. I wonder what’s with this wave’s obsession with Chain Chomps.

It's most likely because of Tour's Smart Steering, seeing as it has some issues in the hedge maze.
All of these tracks are amazing. Rainbow Road and Berlin Byways are my favourites.
I really Mushroom City, Wario Colosseum, Koopa Cape, and maybe Shy Guy Bazaar. For some reason those tracks are really good but seem to get forgotten

Low key the gba tracks have been some of the highlights of each wave, sky garden was solid but snow land and boo lake have really impressed me. Praying we get sunset wilds, that track would look lovely.
Hey Nathaniel! I know I’m late but I know why you can’t do Crazy 8’s only. It activated the Mushroom because you need an item to have the Crazy 8’s. So if it was Crazy 8 and Bananas only, then it would be 8 bananas. That works with every item in the Crazy 8, which are the Green Shell, Red Shell, Banana, Mushroom, Super Star, Coin, Blooper, and Bob-omb. That’s why it auto put the Mushroom with it. You’re welcome!
24:20 i believe the reason they simplified the hedge section is because of 200cc. they probably felt that trying to weave through all those hedges in 200cc would not have been fun for players in the slightest, hence the simplification
You can do that jump at the beginning of Boo Lake with one mushroom, just pull back on the stick because in the water if you pull back you float more. Although, I tried my best, but it doesn't appear to be possible either way, the jump after that stops you

Bandy, for the tour tracks that won't let you drive backwards, if you drive 1 lap (but don't go through the finish line), you can drive backwards and it will still be lap 1

I love doing blue shells only with this new feature, now it’s my favorite thing to mess with! Custom items! What’s interesting is that they removed the blue shell icon, but they kept the mini map explosions. I wonder if they remove the blue shell icon on the mini map for custom items only? It’s kinda disappointing though cuz I wanted to see the 50 blue shells on the mini map
the Soundtrack of this wave is phenomenal especially the city tracks
Ever since the Second Wave came out and the data mines are trending, I just became completely Obsessed with N64 Wario Stadium for no reason, considering that the track alone has a lot of potential to be a Retro Track, it can approve on the aspects that make people feel mixed, maybe ad new ones and so on, doesn’t matter if it’s in 8 deluxe or not, it still should come back! Here’s my Idea, to make the track stand out more they could change the generic stadium setting into a Post-Apocalyptic Demloision Derby type of setting where it feels washed up but it still is relatively popular, there could be additional pieces such as Graffiti decorations around the walls, flame throwing pipes with exploding tires, a fun animation with the jumbo-torn, new sharp obstacles, along with making the whole race two laps long. Sure, it may sound over the top and non sensical, but it would still be pretty cool to think about…
Also, Wave 3 Slaps hard!

It's incredible how these tracks look. Finally we have a wave with top-notch graphics.
@Nathaniel Bandy: the reason why no mushroom appear in leaf pile, because you used customize item even thought you have not turn anything off, just in case someone turn off mushroom it would not be fair if you can still get mushroom from the leaf pile, to get mushroom from the leaf pile you must be in non- customize item.

One thing I also noticed playing the new wave was that the blue shell was removed from the minimap
The addition of customizable items makes Baby Park a lot better
The reason why mushrooms were added when you tried to do Crazy 8 only is so the Crazy 8 actually has items to use, in mushrooms only it has only mushrooms, in shells only it has only shells, etc

Pretty much any item that is apart of the Crazy 8 can be used for it without it automatically selecting the mushroom which is the default first item for it

Actually Bandy, to unlock the Gold Tyres, you have to beat every Staff Ghost on 150cc in Time Trials.
Boo lake is actually possible backwards in 200 cc though it is very difficult but I have done it.
Peach gardens is possiple if you drive one lap and after that backwards and i Think same about Berlin

Only blue shells is so devoid of fun that it loops right back around to being fun.
Also, imagine having everyone get a Boo item and they turn invisible, so no one knows who's in which place.
In order to get the Crazy 8, you need all 8 of the items that it contains or at least 8 items for it to work.

Wave 3 is definitely my favourite so far. Also the custom items is cool. Anyone find it weird how there are 2 spaces missing and 7 spaces missing for battle mode. Hope we get new items come out, I know it’s unlikely but then again who thought we were gonna get that free update for custom items.

I dunno, I think Wuhu TOWN is more part of Wuhu Loop, and not Maka Wuhu. Maka Wuhu has the castle, not the town.

I reckon they made Peach Gardens go backwards as a homage to that one mission in Mario Kart DS where you raced around the course backwards or something

They most likely made a decision to not do a mk9 for the switch and that's why it has gotten these updates and the dlc

I love the remade GBA courses, until the original DLC for Mario Kart 8 we only has Circuits and Bowser’s Castle and then Shy Guy Beach was the only non circuit and castle track we got

Which orb have you guys had for months(pro-bably years)now? Power, or Mystery? I would think Power, because that’s the only one you made a plushie of.
Also, to fill in the other 2 spaces in the item randomizer chart at the start of the stream, I would pick Jump Feather(Cape Feather in Super Mario World), and Mega Mushroom. In other words, I’d want to bring some items back from past games.
I choose the “Jump” Feather because it’s already in battle mode, and the Mega Mushroom because it’s far more prac-tical than the Fake Item Box or Super Leaf.
If this wave 3 can’t wait for how amazing wave 7 gonna be (mario kart 9)

Hey, I have a theory for the Backwards strategy, notice how London Loop backwards started with it's final lap route, and even having the chomps loose already, during Wave 2, I played Kalamari Desert backwards and not only was it possible, but it started with it's lap 3 version and lap to lap changes happened but backwards, I'm willing to bet London Loop backwards and others would be the same, Lap 2 would be the lap 2 version and the chomps would be chained again and lap 3 would be the lap 1 version
But that's what leads me to Berlin Byways and Peach Gardens, both have you finish the race driving across the finish line going the opposite direction as to when you started, basically play their final laps backward, meaning on Peach Gardens, play it normal until right before the end, then find a way past the ramp if you can

You mention that there isn’t a lot of GCN courses in MK8D but compared to the other retro courses it has the same amount as most of the others. There are 3 SNES courses, 7 3DS courses, and the other console games all of 6 courses each so far.
I think all budget from Wave 1 went to 3DS Rainbow Road. 😂
Choose: Getting Mission Mode or The Opinion to Turn Items on and off. It's a hard decision I know.
