The SSL SiX is an awesome console to have next to a limited interface. If you have a 2 or 4 input interface, this can add additional channels for instruments that you can manage with the faders. As soon as you buy this thing, open it, plug in your instruments, and have fun. Its a creative tool to make music, and it should teach and push you to understand your own creative process in a different way!
The SiX makes having multiple synths and multiple line inputs easy to work with and even great for recording bands or coming up with ideas as a band.
In this video, I walk through Why and How I use the SSL SIX for recording, and then I talk about 3 tips for recording with it.
    SSL SiX Recording Tip 1:
Use EXT1 and EXT2 sends as creative tools! One of the advantages of the SiX vs other small format consoles is how much flexibility in routing it has. Obviously, Reverbs and delays are must haves on and send, but with the SiX you can easily do parallel compression, distortion, and saturation with ease. In this example, I have my guitar pedals lined up to EXT2 which gives me access to reverb, chorus, flanger, distortion, pitch shift, and more. By clicking the EXT2 button on any channel, I instantly have access to effects for any instrument plugged into the SiX. Awesome.
    SSL SiX Recording Tip 2:
Talkback Listen Mic Compressor as a creative tool. You can route audio from EXT1 or EXT2 through the send and into the talkback, and back into the master. This is a great way to get that LMC compression and crunch really quickly and easily with the SiX.
    SSL SiX Recording Tip 3:
Hardpan your mono channels to create 2 stereo channels that can be recorded together, or separately. Separate channels will allow you to record the L and R of the SSL SiX as mono channels and use these preamps and compressors in mono mode. Super cool!

Getting the signal back from the pedals, where does the cable go?

I haven’t found one SIX video that says (plainly) something like….
“After you plug into here, push this button if you want the audio to go here and come out there…”
Every teacher skims over the main part because they assume (like most YT videos) that the rest is obvious.
In college, those guys are considered teachers that suck.
“Smart guys” are never smart enough to understand WHAT their students DONT understand.
Never assume if you want people to get it.
Bottom line fundamentals/ pause and check/ are what the best teachers do.
A good teacher can teach a 10 year old any DAW ,any
piece of gear, if they realize this!
    Ah but here’s the secret….
Just because you know how to use it doesn’t mean you understand it!
If you can’t explain it you may be able to use it but as a teacher you are not qualified.
FRIKIN SSL DOESN’T EVEN KNOWHOW TO TEACH THIS DOPE ASS UNIT.
That’s why they’re not flying off the shelves like they could be.
They just know how to make ‘em and use em.

Thanks for the Six videos. It seems like a wonderful little tool. I'm hoping to get one soon. Subbed for more interesting content. Thanks.

If I was a video maker this is what I’d know right off the bat…
The person watching either has one or wants one-
Everybody knows what they want to do they just don’t know how to do it-
    Knowing electronics means dick-
It’s not like school where you can raise your hand-
If too many people are raising their hands you are not explaining it right-
Once I teach them how to work it their mixes are gonna be way doper!
Otherwise what am I making? A “I know how to do it” video?
If anyone knows how to get this thing cracking using the I/o on front and the back, D-Subs and all with the corresponding buttons knobs and switches and routing,
You’ll be the SIX king on YT because right now there are none.

Thanks for the upload. I'm tracking through my SSL six into Abelton - using the main mix bus, Bus B and the alt sends to feed audio into separate tracks. I'd be interested to hear how you would route separate tracks into a DAW - what you feel would be the best option. Thanks for putting the time into documenting your process. Its useful...

hey this is a great idea! Most of the time I also use main mix, bus b, and then ext 1 and ext 2 to send stereo signals into their own tracks. I don't think there's a video on YT explaining this process though...

Hey friend! I just uploaded a video explaining the routing of the LMC through the talkback mic :) let me know if you have any other questions about it, theres still more I can explain

How do you send the synth to your guitar pedal?

    • @paulthesimple7483
      @paulthesimple7483  Před 2 lety

I put the synth in Stereo channel 3/4 or 5/6, and then I set up my guitar pedals on EXT1 as mono (since most of my pedals are mono). If you only use the Left side of the EXT, it will turn into a mono send

@@paulthesimple7483 So you are sending the bus B output from the synth stereo channel to the pedal input and sending the pedal output to mono EXT?

    • @paulthesimple7483
      @paulthesimple7483  Před 2 lety

@@JVMyers no Im just using the EXT as normal. Sending EXT output into pedals and then output of pedals goes into EXT inputs
