Tested: Tokyo Mods ECU Remap

- Most modern motocross engine tuners will tell you one of the simplest ways to get more out of your stock dirt bike is to get an aftermarket ECU. And while this is true and even easier than swapping out the pipe for some beautiful ti/carbon system, aftermarket ECUs are not cheap by any means. This is where Tokyo Mods comes in. For our 2021 Kawasaki KX450, we asked for an extra ECU so that we could have one remapped by Tokyo Mods and leave the other stock to ride them back to back on the same day at the same track. At $149, this option is a fraction of the cost of a new ECU. Click play to see how we got along with the remapped unit.

Subjective reviews are fine, but it would've been nice to see a dyno graph to quantify the differences
Dynos never tell the whole story. One of the best power plants in the 250s is the yamaha but makes less peak hp than the KTM.
@@leeham273 again, that's subjective. Personal opinion. I prefer actual data. If I'm buying a tune for more power I want to see more power.
@@StrykerV8 then you have never actually had an ECU remapped to know the difference. The actual power output is changed very slightly but cleans it up and makes it easier to ride and faster. Theres plenty of dynos online showing that, its so tiny
@@leeham273 I purchased a vortex for my 2020, I know exactly what an ECU tune can do. And from having my cars tuned in the past, I also know the tricks used to make it feel faster than it normally is (30% throttle input resulting in 50% throttle opening, etc). I don't need someone telling me it "feels" better, that's obvious and a given. I want to SEE the improvements as well. They say it's smoothed out? Great, show me the torque curve and the lack of dips. If you're satisfied with someone saying "yup its better" then more power to ya buddy
@@StrykerV8 im sure you have
Well this is perfect timing i just bought an exhaust from them and am about to pull my ecu to send to tokyomods
When u buy a exhaust from then u get ecu serviced by free ? I see it somewhere ..
@@frasnellijr yes. If you buy an exhaust from them they remap it for free. My ecu should be back in a few days
was there a change in the rev limiter also?
I got the Vortex ecu for my 2013 kx450f and it revs higher and doesn't have a much compression drag off throttle but it made the bike a pain to start.
My kxf 250 is the same fking annoying
sheeeesh
On the KX450, do you just send them the coupler? Or do you need to send the whole ECU? Would be a no brainer if I don't have to send the whole ECU.
Ecu
Dyno chart or it didn't happen. I want to see numbers on paper.
Gee that’s really affordable 👍🏾 much cheaper than I was expecting.
I like cheap ..except w/ my bikes & trucks! New KTM or Kawasaki MX bike every 2-3yrs & new Ford F150 Lariat FX4 truck every 4yrs like clockwork. All else I have is cheap junk. ;)
@@davidklimmek3192genuinely, no one gives half of a fuck.
Terrible to deal with, tried contacting them about a vortex for a yz250f and all I got was vague responses or a response I had a stroke trying to read
Is it just me or was the original price $89.99
Ya man.....the website says something like $98.99 and I just got my ecu back from them! I paid $150....still not mad though because my bike is running super crisp!
I want to pay under $100 ! C'mon man.
A buddy of mine told me about these guys, he got his 2021 kx250 tuned by them and he loves it.
