That's a cracking little build. The phone box really does look good. You've done a great job of it. My grandson is working on a rocker of a video to upload, it won't be to everyone's taste, I'm sure. Loud rock music and flashing lights, so be warned. Hopefully, it will be ready to go this week...cheers James 🙂👍
It's always great to see new additions to your railway. I was looking recently at some of your earlier videos, including a tour of your layout: the 'empty gaps' (for want of a better phrase) where the layout has since developed is a bit strange to see but also a good incentive of what can be done. Great build. Are you sure some blokes didn't pinch a police box from Yorkshire to South Shields? Our best to Mrs T and her recovery. My wife, Janet last year was in hospital for a neck fracture and a month later a mastectomy for Stage 3 breast cancer. I had to take care of her more several months so I understand your situation Tony with Mrs T. Janet has since recovered. Bill & Janet from California

Another great build Tony, the London ones consisted of two types, the larger Tardis type, had a chair, small desk and a telephone inside and the smaller one, a police post, just had an opening in the front, with a sign public police call post, opening small door, which gave access to a telephone connected to the local station, the box, could be "flashed" by the station to alert the nearest beat officer, and before the introduction of radios, in the late 60s, officers had to "make a ring" if they left their beat for any reason, to give the reason. Hi Colin. they did come in all shapes and sizes, your right though the London metropolitan police box is the most famous, as it was featured in Dr who. Now i have found another police box which is even more unusual. the South shields Police box. Hi Tony, I’ve ben AWOL due to health problems, unfortunately. Thanks for mentioning me in dispatches regarding the distance signal which you’ve modelled as NER lower quadrant; my favourite signals. Just one thing, Tony. You have modelled to signal in the ‘off’ (proceed normally) rather than ‘on’ (horizontal) meaning proceed with caution. Your loco driver is on a disciplinary, as he was seen proceeding, tender first too, through a signal giving the proceed normally, the signal ahead is off (in your favour), for a train heading towards the station 😖. Personally, I would leave it as 'on' (proceed with caution), as it’s on a blind bend. Many of these were made permanently ‘on’ with the arm fixed horizontally to the post, with no operating mechanism. It’s your layout, so as ever, its up to you, my friend. Morning Tony, firstly I would like to apologise for not picking up about Mrs T being in for a op, please pass on my love and very best wishes for a speedy ❤. As you've seen over the last few years me and technology don't always run together I'm usually there, trying to catch up. Enjoyed the opening sequence, that is a great view of the branch into Jarrow Road, and seeing the train joining the main line was great. What a great build on this police box, that is a fantastic design, like the curved roof, and will look fantastic. I must say you've got a good eye for colour and can see in your head what the finish is going to look like. Nice to see a bit of building work on the Railway again. I've been very quiet on my layout, we've been busy with some things around the house, new carpet in our bedroom and stairs so never ends there does it, one job always seems to trigger something else, but its been cold down there, evenings I'm building a few kits that I was given for Christmas, and I'm hoping my mate alfie will spend some time over here to help build a newspaper kiosk that's still waiting to be build. Felecetations to Mrs T mate. That's some oddments box you have. The box turned out a pearler. I'm a very happy bunny as I got given a box of vintage Triang railway stuff , a lot of which are in original boxes. Unfortunately, the track is steel on a moulded base type which is of no use, which is a bugger because it includes some points and an uncoupler. But the star find was a boxed R119 Operating T C Mail Coach set priced at 2 pounds 5 shillings and 6 pence., which unfortunately again is useless to me. Not to fussed as I have 2 Hornby Dublo ones besides. Cheers. Arthur

Absolutely John, it was a heads up of what was about to do next. a little inspiration at the Alton model railway show. even though it had led to a totally different police box it planted the seed. will you be going to Ali Pali in March. I like your light-hearted approach to model making, Tony - Model Railways should be fun, after all. There were a lot of police boxes and free-standing police telephones around when I was little and then, all of a sudden they vanished seemingly over night! If my memory serves me right and please remember the number one rule on modelling, I think the phone used to flash when an emergency call was made or a police officer was required to answer the phone (within the box) but what ever it still looks great. Another great little build Tony. I still use contact cement when I'm not in any hurry, but can I recommend the likes of Plasweld (other brands are available - in fact I'm using one just now but can't remember the name!) which goes off in about 20-30 seconds. Cheers.
Hi Dave. It is a good adhesive. but there was so much stress in the roof component that it had to be held in place until the glue went off. i do use plasweld for some pieces. both have their advantages and disadvantages. cheer's for now all the best Tony. Great comment...

Hi Tony, that was a great choice of box and the dark blue. Had me worried thought was getting a bit Star Wars ish “turning “folk into bad guys/ the dark side! Glad to see the good guys set up a base. Cor Norman Wisdom, do recall his antics when I was a youngster. Lucky with that cornice, beautiful detail on it, really finishes it off, certainly pays to hang onto odd/ old bits. Was the Police sign a homemade print or a commercial item? Take care both of you and glad to hear everything progressing well. All the best Stephen
Hello Stephen. while i have been looking after Mrs T i have been watching a few Norman wisdom movies. and i think they are just great. as they are set mostly in the 1950s. ideal for looking for ideas and inspiration. the light only came on when the telephone was ringing no radios then in emergency if the Station want to pass a message to the bobby on the beat they rang the box the light signaled the nearest bobby to run to the box if it was a message for other beats he would whistle calling all beats to him and pass the news it was just a fast aS every 10 Streets had a box

Felecetations to Mrs T mate. That's some oddments box you have. The box turned out a pearler. I'm a very happy bunny as I got given a box of vintage Triang railway stuff , a lot of which are in original boxes. Unfortunately, the track is steel on a moulded base type which is of no use, which is a bugger because it includes some points and an uncoupler. But the star find was a boxed R119 Operating T C Mail Coach set priced at 2 pounds 5 shillings and 6 pence., which unfortunately again is useless to me. Not to fussed as I have 2 Hornby Dublo ones besides. Cheers. Arthur

Absolutely John, it was a heads up of what was about to do next. a little inspiration at the Alton model railway show. even though it had led to a totally different police box it planted the seed.

I like your light-hearted approach to model making, Tony - Model Railways should be fun, after all. There were a lot of police boxes and free-standing police telephones around when I was little and then, all of a sudden they vanished seemingly over night! Thanks for letting us see another of your fantastic builds (and the back-story too), I'd missed your regularly weekly videos... I'm happy to hear that Mrs T is recovering...

That little layout was probably the best that was there for its detailing and story lines. Fabulous. the moulding came of a old HO building i do tend to look out for broken buildings at shows for donor parts. i do tend to lucky in my handy box. with all the odds and ends i have collected. thanks again for commenting. and support. have a great weekend. If my memory serves me right and please remember the number one rule on modelling, I think the phone used to flash when an emergency call was made or a police officer was required to answer the phone (within the box) but what ever it still looks great. Another great little build Tony. I still use contact cement when I'm not in any hurry, but can I recommend the likes of Plasweld (other brands are available - in fact I'm using one just now but can't remember the name!) which goes off in about 20-30 seconds. Cheers.
Hi Dave. It is a good adhesive. but there was so much stress in the roof component that it had to be held in place until the glue went off. i do use plasweld for some pieces. both have their advantages and disadvantages. cheer's for now all the best Tony. Great comment...

Hi Tony, that was a great choice of box and the dark blue. Had me worried thought was getting a bit Star Wars ish “turning “folk into bad guys/ the dark side! Glad to see the good guys set up a base. Cor Norman Wisdom, do recall his antics when I was a youngster. Lucky with that cornice, beautiful detail on it, really finishes it off, certainly pays to hang onto odd/ old bits. Was the Police sign a homemade print or a commercial item? Take care both of you and glad to hear everything progressing well. All the best Stephen
Hello Stephen. while i have been looking after Mrs T i have been watching a few Norman wisdom movies. and i think they are just great. as they are set mostly in the 1950s. ideal for looking for ideas and inspiration.
The police signs you can pick up from ebay. or you can shrink them down on the PC.

the light only came on when the telephone was ringing no radios then in emergency if the Station want to pass a message to the bobby on the beat they rang the box the light signaled the nearest bobby to run to the box if it was a message for other beats he would whistle calling all beats to him and pass the news it was just a fast aS every 10 Streets had a box
