K-Lit is really taking its place on the world stage these days, so here are some that have been translated into English that I have liked:
1. My Brilliant Life by Kim Ae-ran (literary fiction, family)
2. Welcome to Hyunam-dong Bookstore by Hwang Boreum (contemporary, slice of life)
3. Cursed Bunny by Bora Kim (sci-fi, short story collection)
4. I'm Waiting for You and Other Stories by Kim Bo-young (sci-fi, short stories)
5. Counterweight by Djuna (sci-fi, novella)
6. Bluebeard's First Wife by Ha Seong-nan (horror, short stories)
7. The Plotters by Kim Un-su (mystery, thriller)
8. Tower by Bae Myung-hoon (sci-fi, dystopia)
9. Untold Night and Day by Bae Suah (magical realism, literary fiction)
10. Umma's Table by Hong Yeon-sik (graphic novel, slice of life)
Bonus: I also recommend Hong Yeon-sik's , though it is autobiographical.
There are many other excellent and critically acclaimed books like 'Almond', 'The Vegetarian', 'Please Look After Mom', 'Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982' etc. But I wanted to mention a wider range of books and authors, so that you have more room to explore. I already read "Welcome to Hyunam-dong Bookstore" by Hwang Boreum and loved it, I own "Kim Jiyoung, Born 1984" but haven't read it yet, and I rented "Cursed Bunny" by Bora Kim from Kindle unlimited, but I haven't read it yet. You didn't mention this book, but I also finally ordered a physical copy of the book "Pachinko" by Min Jin Lee. I watched season 1 of the Apple TV+ show last year and was hooked. I decided I wanted to read the book to figure what happens next since I don't have the subscription anymore. Maybe you might want to check it out. It's a generational historical fiction book that starts around the time of the Japanese occupation and I think goes on until present day. All the other books you mentioned, will now be add to my to-read list 😀.
