Kani Kusruti is an Indian actor who has worked in several movies across languages. Her forthcoming film, Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light, had been selected in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it is set to premiere in May 2024. It’s the first time in 30 years that an Indian film will be vying for the prestigious Palme d’Or.
She first gained recognition in 2009 with the film Kerala Cafe, where her performance was critically acclaimed. Kani won the Best Actress at Kerala State Film Awards in 2020 and the Best Actress Award at the Moscow International Film Festival for her performance as Khadeeja in the film Biriyaani. Kani was born to social activist and rationalist parents Jayasree A. K. and Maitreya Maitreyan. They had decided that they wouldn`t get married and raised Kani in an unconventional environment. Kani began her acting journey with theatre and was very well appreciated for her performances there as well.

Kani has so much clarity about film making process, thanks to her experiences & exposure to diverse film makers & films. Its so enriching to hear female actors this way (vs the usual "male actor made me comfortable" stories). Also huge kudos to her innate ability to perform.. she is amazing in her movies.. so glad she dint get tied up in only malayalam cinema though i wish i could see more of her in malayalam (along w/ other languages, national & international)

I felt Dhany was a little "poking" when it came to Kani's personal life.. People change, the equations change. Not everyone can understand or agree to a polygamous relationship nor the partnership change. Though technically a large % of people cheat and fall in/out of relationships, divorce etc are due to these reasons. Im sure you asked with right intention but came across as a little intrusive. Love your programs and wanted to give this feedback
I think the big difference in their life and our social life is literal FREEDOM. Whole family like if you want it like that let it be like that. I found it very precious .
