- Alex Payne and Benjamin Kayser are joined by one of the greatest players in European rugby history as Ireland legend Ronan O'Gara drops in from idyllic Ile de Re to talk La Rochelle, nerves, the cult of the modern player, and how affected he was by some of the lows in his career. Plus he discusses who he'd pick at 10 for the Lions and what he'll do if Stade Rochelais win the Heineken Cup.

Englishman been living in Ireland 21 years, England, Munster & Bristol fan. Loved this show, I've been following ROG's career, he has taken the right route and is proving himself to be a very good coach. Great to see his humour come out the last couple of years too. On a production point, I much prefer to see host and guests on screen so that you can see peoples facial expressions and reactions.
What a combo of straight talking rugby enthusiasts. Proper, proper rugby talk. Insightful, honest and passionate. Ben and ROG complement each other very well. Tell it how it is lads, that's what we want to hear. Definitely not the BAD this week!
Could listen to endless ROG interviews. Super podcast. Ben is a breath of fresh air!
My god, how good an interviewer is Alex? I’ve never seen the likes of it
Genuine Irish royalty, Go on the Rog!
Him and sexton you lads in Ireland have been lucky with the 10s
An absolute legend as a player and now on he is becoming a legend as coach, most of all a legend as a person a ture gentleman. A brilliant podcast Alex and Ben thanks guys. 😊
Ronan O'Gara sounds like such an amazing man. I always had so much respect for him as a player and after watching this. Just wow, utterly blown away by the guy. A true Irish Legend!
I've been watching a bit of O'Gara lately, what with La Rochelle's current success. I've got to say. I get this sense of complete simplicity from this man, a rare feeling. Like I've never met him but feel like I'd trust him and he'd be completely accessible.
Really enjoyed this show. Ronan O’Gara comes across as very eloquent and measured. I like how he worked at Racing , Crusaders and ending up in La Rochelle. The section on the french league and the french club culture particularly interesting
What a guy! Even as an Englishman. I hope he goes extremely well, and listening to him, I think he definitely will!
This is one of the best podcasts they have done. A fascinating look into his career as a player, but he strikes me as a superb coach . so interesting to listen to.
Really good listen, as always. ROG is such an interesting guy, so knowledgeable.
I just double clicked thumbs up. Thats how much I'm enjoying this.
Great episode Thankyou. ROG was fascinating from his nerves as a player and pundit too his interest in learning and his honesty with his players. Fascinating.
Love ROG as a sport crazy lad growing up in cork he was one the big heroes
Brilliant show love you all, ROG you continue to inspire! Was a big fan in the day was a poor 10 but I would watch you in awe. Great chat, excellent interview questions and answers. USA rugby fan.
Great episode! I've lived in France for about 25 years, and totally see what ROG and Ben are saying about relationships. It took us about five years to break through, but it's been plain sailing ever since. Hope it all goes well at La Rochelle - wd love to see them win the pot.
Very interesting watching this back after ROG has now won two European cup titles - Legend
Great podcast guys brilliant insightful discussion with ROG and Ben and Alex great facilitators One of the best I’ve viewed Well done 🙏☘️👏🌞🧘♂️👍✅👌😉
What an interview. ROG, you're still a legend! Hoping Leinster beat La ROGelle, but wishing you the very best otherwise. 🇮🇪
Brilliant episode well done lads from 🇮🇪
As much as we Kiwis love the opposition drinking out of saucers, it can get boring too so it is great to see the rest of the world tapping into the simple things like "belief" and positivity that have seen us dominate for a century and will make for an enthralling, sublime Rugby World Cup 2023. Oohlala.
I was at the 2000 final with my kids. I really felt for ROG
Great show lads, really enjoyed it
What an engaging interview.
Best one yet. That was savage 👑🤌🏽
Starting now... Wish me luck.
Tinds, chin up bud ❤️
Excellent episode
Loved this.
What an incredibly insightful gent. ROG for the crown.
Look at ROG now . Please come to Leinster ROG 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 PS can listen to him all day long ! Gives honest answers with the usual PR B.S
Irish fan here ..great pod cast ..will be tuning in every week from now on
You should have a look back at the older episodes it’s definitely in my opinion the best rugby pod 😅
You will enjoy it david
Yes it's so much better than off the ball rugby analysis
@@boks23 am off the ball kinda repeats it self a lot ...its only an irish view on things instead of global if that makes sense
Dont bother only good because usual nobhead missing
kayser is brilliant
ROG is top. As Ben noted, he was very honest about Finn but it was a fair analysis.
Has A very good relationship with razor Robertson who is strong favourite to be the next all black coach , you wonder if he could be an Allblacks assistant
Best episode
NICE ONE PAYNO
Great show as usual but please have the 3 faces up at the same time.
Next Ireland and eventually Lions coach right there.
Naughty backdrop Alex
I've been following ROG's coaching career for the last few years. Watching him on "Off the Ball" has been a revelation. I'm happy to admit I hated him as a player, I thought he was a miserable, whining twat! Now I think he's a great, honest and warm man. And I truly believe he'll go on to become one of the greatest coaches ever.........
I agree, I didn’t warm to him as a player, but the more I hear his analysis the more I like him. He is outspoken but I don’t mind that if he can argue his corner. He is good on ‘Off the Ball’ so much better than Alan Quinlan. Gin to NZ was a great move. Going to La Rochelle has been a great move too. I don’t doubt he will end up with the Munster job and then Ireland.
@@patrickchilds2987 I don't think he's outspoken, so much as plain old honest! He says what he thinks and you have to admire him for that! Conversely I loved Quinny as a player but he's a vacuous fence-sitter on OTB......
He has his reward a year later.Did you see how la rochelle found the weakness in leinster today?
Payno kicked out of the good room this week?
Missus wants a bit of Netflix
Alex’s new background is looking vibrant. What colour of paint do you use 😂😂
red
@@senorprofe6212 aye. But the name on the paint will be something ridiculous like most paints 😂😂
@@matthewmillar9412 ah right yeh
Ben's pronuncation of Furlong has made me question my sexuality.
How high is O'Gara's stock now eh?!!
Is this the preamble to the main show?
This one and Kevin Sinfield just brilliant... common factor ???
Damn, double like..
As a munster fan i want rog too do well in France and maybe when the time is right for rog he will come back when it's right for him stay at la rochelle have been playing brillant under ronan and John but we'll done too ronan for the route he is taken it not easy but the racing 92 and crusaders like and now la rochelle rog won the top14 with racing and he won the super -rugby championship in new Zealand ladys like i said before when the time is right ronan will make the move too ireland and see after that let him stay over in France and he coaching cv is unreal everywhere rog want he won something like ya alright 🏉🇮🇪🏉🇮🇪🏉🇮🇪🏉🇮🇪🏉🇮🇪🏉🇮🇪🏉🇮🇪🏉🇮🇪🏉🇮🇪🏉🇮🇪🏉🇮🇪🏉🇮🇪🏉
The subtitles are really struggling with a ROG accent!
Ahh sure, if there's a will, there's a way...
That red background really brings out Alex Payne’s rosy cheeks!
😍
ROG🇮🇪
ROG is gonna end up as Global CEO of some massive company. Airbus perhaps.
I don't get the joke
As a Munster supporter, I hope ROG and POC don’t come back to Munster, because like politicians’ careers , all coaches’ careers end. with failure. Neither of them would deserve that
Kick tindall and hask out and have Kayser and a guest everytime.
Agree on Hask ... Tindall very good on Sinfield show ... stayed quiet and let him talk. Hask would have been asking a lot of inane questions
Three gents, great rugby chat, more of the same please.
