One of the best parts of working on the Tony Iommi guitars video was getting to work with Angus Clark. Angus is a long time scholar of Iommi's guitar tones and has put together a couple of tribute SG's to get those classic sounds. So if you've always wanted to know how Iommi did that, tune in and let's kick it around for an hour.

Not only is Tony the godfather of metal, but he's the godfather of all my favourite 90s bands from Seattle and beyond. Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, you name it.

I loved all the passion in Iommi’s playing. He has an edge and aggression.

I had watched several Tony and Sabbath videos this evening. Don't often have time. Then this one came up. Angus' comment about "burn in" really struck home. It's a very good statement. Younger people, todays people, can listen to Sabbath and like it, enjoy it, but can't begin to appreciate what it was like to be a 12 or 13 year old in 1970 hearing this for the first time. We'd never heard any Priest or Maiden, Metallica or Megadeth, Pantera, Soundgarden. Hell, we'd never heard Van Halen. You know what I mean? There was nothing like it.
Going dark here and making some admissions I possibly shouldn't but...
Imagine being a 13 year old in 1970, sitting on the edge of your bed one morning waiting for Dad to get out of the bathroom so you can get ready for school. You've layed in bed awake all night tripping on Mescaline that you took too much of the evening before because your Mom pissed you off and it's a small house and your parents bedroom is right beside yours and you have to be silent to not wake them up. You have your little stereo going and the Paranoid album drops and you make it through the song Paranoid but then the intro to Iron Man starts and you hear I... Am... Iron... Man... And you jump up off the bed and run into the kitchen screaming and Dad comes and says what the hell's wrong with you boy?
Dude, that's "Burn In". True story. Long time ago btw and clean and sober for ages.
PS... I sincerely believe that spray painting Bill gold, clear coating and then using paint stripper to remove the gold and clear has a lot to do with his state of mind in later years... 😊

The Monkey SG seen on the official 2013 Black Sabbath Loner music video is built by Lou Moritz here in the US. That was before gibson did their version i do believe. Great chat! It was neat to see the one at hrc in ny. I was therein NYC for The End Tour. That was great! The 13 tour in NJ as well! Tony and Geezers tech hung out, it was a Global Black Sabbath Convention hang that i flew from Alaska to attend a couple times. Great group!

I've always loved Iommi's tones. Totally epic. He experimented quite a bit, never resting on his laurels. Sabbath's music is much more complex than they are given credit for.

On Jethro Tull, the song is " A Song For Jeffry", and I also was told the song was tracked and on The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. The only live part was Ian Anderson. I wonder what it would have sounded like had Iommi really played it live.

Amazing discussion guys, Angus Clark really nails that sweet, legendary tone. So much fun listening to him make those sounds.
I love all the guitar gods (and all your videos about them), but, for me, Rock-guitar can divided into two periods - Before Iommi & After Iommi.
His impact on rock guitar sound is Clapton on the Beano album level.
He hit like a thunderbolt & changed everything forever.

I worked in transit for many years in Las Vegas, as a city bus driver. During my earlier years, I used to enjoy driving a particular bus called the Gillig Phantom. Whenever our Dispatcher assigned me one, I would always say, "All RIGHT! I've got the Gibson SG of BUSES today!" I say this because, like Tony's Gibson SG, the Gilling Phantom was MEAN! But, ALSO like Tony's SG, the Phantom was a FUN kind of mean.

Ive always considered Master to be the 1st metal LP as we kinda know it. Into The Void being the real serious downtuned chugged song to set the template for like everything to come. You dont hear the Jazz so much of the 2nd record, or blues of the 1st. and the mood is just so utterly dark.
but Vol 4 will laways be my fave

Angus seems to have misunderstood when Keith asked about the White Les Paul Custom used around Paranoid. It can be seen on the German Iron Man 1970 video. Oddly enough, they are using all Orange amps and PA in that video too.

Such a great and interesting video! It was interesting to hear about Tony's different guitars throughout the years. One thing I had always assumed was that he acquired the left-handed SG Special before the recording of the first album but I could be wrong. I know I read in an article somewhere years ago that he was constantly tinkering with that guitar experimenting with the pickups etc. He's definitely one of my favorite guitar players and one of the reasons why I love the Gibson SG so much. Looking forward to the video about the Mosrite guitars as well as the Brian May red special guitar!

Bro, respectfully, I LOVE TONY IOMMI.
But this video along with one more is pretty much a hardcore Iommi fan you know that is displaying gear.
We already have all the info on Tony Iommi.
It’s nothing new, coming from a guy that owns Laney amps and the Tony Iommi Gibson and the Custom Country Pedal and the Catalinbread Sabbra Cassabra pedal.
There’s so much more to explore worldwide with the guitar.
    EXPLORE THAT. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
    Thank you,
    Fan of FFW ♥️

Coming in a year later 3/'24, I'm happy with the "tony iommi" labeled P90s in my '22 Iommi SG and they measure a little hotter than regular SG Special P90 but if I DID want to get something more authentic to Tony's JD pups what would I get? The UK Jaydee and Diggins sites seems to be down; So who do we go to... Duncan, Lindy Fralin, Lollar, Bare Knuckles? Probably Fralin, right? 🎸
