CINEPRINT 35 - Testing the Emulation // San Antonio Botanical Gardens

  • I recently purchased the Cineprint 35 film emulation from Tom Bolles and thought this would also be a great excuse to test out the new emulations he created
    I also recently got the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K Full Frame and have been itching to test out the Open Gate ability. I decided to not reframe anything so anyone looking for Open Gate footage can do so.
    Everything here was shot on vintage glass using my Pentax 28mm, Helios 44-2, and the Nikon 135 AIS.
    Additionally, I exported this using the settings he recommends and I got a weird gamma shift in the shadows causing them to lean more green. I left it as is to again, show anyone who wants to see if as it was intended.
    Moving forward I am going to keep testing and try it next by grading in the Rec709-A color space as I have had little to no issues with that before.
    I also plan on uploading a Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K Full Frame video once I feel like I have gathered enough footage for it! So subscribe if you want to see that.
    If you all have any reservations about the film emulation, don't. It's fantastic and I can tell that there was a lot of work that went into it.
    If you have any questions drop em below and I can try to answer to the best of my ability.

    I feel like people watch so much CZcams instead of actual movies and they forget what real film looks like. They’re standard for what film looks like is just based on other emulations. So we just end up with a bunch of green tinted skies and weird color casts.

    • @notdarrengarcia
      @notdarrengarcia  Před měsícem

      yeah i get what you mean. the green tint here is from me following Tom’s directions and exporting in Gamma2.4 when i corrected it by changing the gamma to rec709-A (not here on the Tube) it didn’t have those green shifts! i’m also a big proponent of watching actual movies to learn techniques, movement, grading, lighting, etc. so i’m with you there. i appreciate you stopping by!

      @@notdarrengarcia Hey thanks for not taking my criticism the wrong way. If you are looking for the most accurate emulation it’s a combination of FilmBox and the built in print film lut in Davinci. I do the quarterly payments for filmbox and it’s not too expensive. If you can get your hands on filmbox, I can send you a copy of the power grade I’m currently using.
