I rarely comment on videos but I had to for this one. I love the information and the way you have presented it sooo much. I find myself resonating with a lot of the sentiments in this and taking notes✍️ for building my own social media presence soon. Forgive the lengthy comment, but I saw your short about lengthy work hours in training, then saw you posted about your own mental health treatment, and had to comment. I am a recently retired lawyer who spent 44 years regulating doctors. (By the way, from my perspective, unanticipated downsides to use of social media are when a doc accidentally reveals patient confidences, which is easy to do and can lead to licensure discipline and lawsuits; and when patients and others watch your content, get angry for whatever reason (the hate you spoke of), and file a complaint with your medical licensing agency, medical society, hospital, or employer. It isn't a question of whether it will happen, it is a question of when and how often.)
I want to applaud your courage in disclosing your own mental health treatment, and encourage you to follow through in trying to modernize the profession's approach to the subject. One of my areas of expertise is "physician impairment", a term I despise for obvious reasons. When I was young a diagnosis of substance abuse disorder or of a mental illness or disorder resulted in removal from practice, often permanently. We have improved our understanding of these issues, but the stigma is still largely there. In many states physicians with addictions can get a "one bite" opportunity to get well without facing discipline today, but those with other illnesses are not afforded such a chance. Doctors whose mental health issues may present no real risk of patient harm are still monitored by the state or the hospital, and sometimes suspended from practice. Confidential monitoring may be the best deal some physicians can get I was discussing this with a young pediatric oncologist who trained at one of the world's top pediatric hospitals, and she commented that probably half the people she worked with are receiving counselling or other mental health treatment.
My primary focus as a regulator was patient safety and protection, and this is clearly the main focus of healthcare professionals. Overly punitive regulatory focus is not consistent with this focus, and I sincerely hope your generation will be able to bring about change.

Excellent video, Jake! Social Media has only helped my career and it is something I recommend to any pharmacy student that asks for my advice! On another note...I think we need some proof of these Halloween costumes 🤣

I really love these longer videos--they deserve so much more of an audience. This really gave me a lot to think about.

Hey, I really appreciate every bit of information you give out there. As we are on the topic of having social media, I wanted to ask you thoughts on me having a social media account as a high school senior, future premed and medical students. I know it will be demanding at times but I won’t be a full time content creator because that won’t be my ultimate goal here, I’ll be more focused on getting into med school. I just wanted any advice you had to offer on me having it, or if it will be more with it waiting till med school to have social media seeing as the unprofessional dilemma is still around. Thank you.
