    I have 13kW of panels and a 30kWh battery and with that I can get 50 miles/day on my model Y and run most of my house. Note: That's charging the car at night off battery. I can get a lot more if the car is home during the day.

      I cant' agree more with the car being home during the day! I can hit 14kW at mid day during the summer and it's enough to run the house and charge the car

    Have you looked into vertical mounted bifacial panels on a north-south line? Less production mid day but higher in the morning and evening. Also panels run cooler.

    Why do you use PVC pipes instead of corrugated conduit for under ground line?

    • @willistisdale4293
      @willistisdale4293 Před měsícem +2

      Because schedule 40 PVC is the standard for underground wire. Other accepted methods are HDPE, direct burial USE cables, UF direct burial cable, coated RMC, etc. Corrugated black tube isn’t an accepted electrical conduit, and pulling through it would be awful.

    Why do you dislike Tesla so much?

      I don't think he dislikes the Tesla - he was merely commenting that the house owner had planned the system without long miles on the Tesla, but had changed jobs which now required him to drive a lot further (11:07). So the system was now undersized.

    Connecting EV's: I'd like to see some heavy duty DC-DC converter/chargers that can be powered from the typical 48V battery bus instead of going out to an AC powered Charger via the Inverter, seems a waste.

    • @t.d.5804
      @t.d.5804 Před měsícem

      Choose an inverter with a HV battery, you dont use 48V anymore for larger installs, up/down conversion has much less losses and much less amps on cables and everything

No need to ever advertise... especially in this twisted world where this is becoming rare. Is there a forum where I might find an engineer like you in Oregon?

    Are you kidding me? You have what looks like a 20 KW solar panel array and a 120 KW of battery backup and you are claiming that you need soft-starts on the two AC units? My Trane 5-Ton, two-stage unit uses 19 Amps at start-up, but even if that was doubled to 38 Amps, a single Sol-Ark 15K would easily power it without a soft-start module. This guy has TWO Sol-Ark 15K units, he could easily start three or four AC units all at once. I am not sure how your "math" worked these numbers out. I have a 200 Amp grid connected panel and it could start two of my Trane units at once if I had two on the house, and that is without battery backup and sun-power flowing to the two inverters. In the day, the two Sol-Ark inverters can bring in something like 19 KW each directly from the panels to power the house. I don't see a need for soft-starts on the AC units, unless you are trying to extend their lifespan.

    • @engineer775
      @engineer775  Před měsícem +2

      He has 4 AC units. They are not trane units with low lra. Each unit had an lra over 110 amps except for the ton and 1/2 unit which was around 80.

    • @franklong6269
      @franklong6269 Před měsícem

      @@engineer775 Okay, that makes more sense. These units must be monumentally inefficient.

    • @willistisdale4293
      @willistisdale4293 Před měsícem +1

      @@franklong6269They are older units (~20 years) We took the LRA down from 75a to 24a in each unit using the microaire soft starts.
