  • In today's video, I discuss 10 tips for keeping African cichlids. Although focused mostly on Lake Malawi cichlids, these tips for African cichlids can be applied to many other setups as well.
    These tips are a bit more unique than the typical care guide video, but following this list has had positive results for my African cichlids tanks and setups. African cichlids are some of the most colorful fish in the world and have plenty of varieties and behaviors. It's my favorite type of cichlids to keep.

    These are very good tips, of all the cichlids I'm always having problems taking care of African Cichlids except for the Tilapia Butterkofri. They use to die on me every time I would get them for some reason. Thank you for this.

    I agree with what mostly you said except buying online is starting to get out of control the shipping costs are rising and rising African chiclids are costly already and the added extra costs associated with shipping is starting to price me out of the hobby. I do have a local fish store who sells great African chiclids but his costs are climbing too because he has these fish shipped to him he does breed somewhat but doesn't breed all the species that are out there. Well love you're channel and enjoy it very much. I will try and hold on as long as possible because i do love the hobby 40 plus years and counting. Take care brother

      I buy from AquariumFish.Net. Single fee around 40$ no matter how many fish you buy. I live on west coast and they are California fish so I wouldn't recommend them if you live in the eastern United States

    I would agree with most except the size of the fish, I much prefer to add smaller fish as they won't fight for territory and are no threat, also as long as you can hit the dietary requirements, keeping mbuna mixed with other is fine, ive never had a problem in over 5 years of keeping mine mixed, aggression is low, they've never had bloat and are completely thriving, I even have 1 of the largest bumble bee cichlids I've
    Ever seen, currently around 11 inches and still growing, so he's definitely never been unhappy

    What do you feed different size peacock cichlids? Say like if you have 2.5 inches to 4 inch.

    My largest fish are 10” and 9” my smallest are 3”.. I find adding fish much smaller helps as they’re less of a threat to the big boys at the top. Which means the new guys won’t get a harsh beat down.
    I added a 7” stoni and he had a rough go, almost had to start pulling fish he got so messed up. :/

    Dude - 2 mins 47 seconds. What peacock is that on the right please? I have 2 of them but the LFS screwed up the names on my receipt and they are not listed on there. People online have been asking about them in my photos. I am desperate to know. You have no idea how much I would appreciate it so I would actually know. Yes, new cichlid keeper here. Thanks

    Lol i must be very lucky or something,ive been keeping Africans in a community tank with tiger barbs and ornate bichir with 100 percent success with out any issues and all different sizes

    • @CichlidBros
      @CichlidBros  Před 8 měsíci

      Yep, that’s some good luck. May not be sustainable over time with the bichir picking off the barbs as a nice snack eventually

    Bro how to increase or decrease ph levels

    • @CichlidBros
      @CichlidBros  Před 3 lety +2

      I usually recommend keeping things as consistent as possible. One good way of increasing PH (which Africans prefer) is using crushed coral
