ΒΑΓΓΕΛΗΣ ΠΕΡΠΙΝΙΑΔΗΣ - ΟΙ ΜΑΓΚΕΣ ΤΟΥ ΠΑΛΙΟΥ ΚΑΙΡΟΥ Oi Magkes tou Paliou Kairou

The great "rebetes" of the 20th Century are no longer with us, but they have left a legacy that will live on in the unique music they composed and performed from the 1920's thru the 1950's. Their songs became the roots of Greece's musical heritage.
In May of 2003 the legendary Vangelis Perpiniadis, who wrote and sings the sound track of this video, joined the greats no longer with us, who he memorialized in "Oi Magkes tou Paliou Kairou"
The song he wrote and sang is a tribute the great rebetes and their music, which grew from the harsh realities of urban poverty. The songs spoke of of exile, love, death, love, drug addiction, broken hearts, and other everyday matters, both happy and sad. It flourished at the same time as the American blues did and was born of the same urban poor who were marginalized, without resources, and without a voice..
