  • Working in remote northern Canada has its challenges. The biggest challenge is figuring out how to transport goods to these remote areas. Most of these places can only be reached by air, while some have ice roads for a limited season, and others receive supplies from ships during a short season as well. Planes are the main carriers for bringing in produce, dairy products, and other perishable items, while stocking up from ice roads or sea lift is essential.
The size of the airport, store, and warehouse, as well as weather conditions and availability, all impact when and how much we receive items in the north. It's not an easy job, but it is very rewarding. Often, we are the only store in town, and supplying everyone can be a great responsibility. It's a responsibility with great rewards. There's nothing like the feeling of the community's thankfulness for a beautiful produce section or the gratitude from someone when you help them get a snowmobile they greatly needed.
I've enjoyed my time working for the Northwest Company, and the rest of this video will showcase some of the beauty of this land with regard to the northern supply chain and food security. Thanks for watching, and hey, Go North! remple.spencer@gmail.com
